Let the marathon begin.

Alright so you can go ahead in your affirming side to call your chapter and verse of the holy scriptures that we can learn from what it teaches in reading that those born of God, in Christ will continue on sinning.

Not necessarily living a life of holiness but let's say of ......."christianity".

As a side note because I like to get as much as we can out of this opportunity, I have also the additional question.

Do you believe the scriptures teach Jesus established christianity?

avatar Pro #2

Before anything else, I’m setting aside your side question about whether Jesus established “Christianity.” It’s not part of the resolution, and bringing it in here just muddies the scope. We can take that up separately. The same goes for your distinction between “holiness” and “just ‘Christianity"...that isn’t defined and doesn’t map cleanly onto anything biblical...so it adds ambiguity rather than clarity.

Your opening also leaves key terms undefined (“continue on sinning,” “born of God”), while narrowing the burden to “show a verse.” That combination is sloppy and creates room to shift meanings, so I’m going to define them so we’re actually debating the same thing.

“Born of God” refers to someone who has been regenerated...given new spiritual life and now oriented toward God (John 3, 1 John’s usage).

“Continue on sinning” means that a believer still commits sin after regeneration...not as an unbroken, unrepentant pattern, but as an ongoing reality within a life that is being changed. Scripture presents that change as a process, not an instant state. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says we are “being transformed... from one degree of glory to another,” which implies an ongoing progression. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 calls sanctification God’s will for believers, again describing something actively unfolding rather than already completed. That framework only makes sense if sin is still present and being progressively dealt with.

With that clarified, the claim is whether those born of God can and will continue to sin. The answer is yes...both can and will, but within progressive sanctification, meaning real change over time rather than immediate perfection.

1 John 1:8-10 is explicit...“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.” This is written to believers (“my little children” 2:1), so denying ongoing sin is something Christians are warned against.

Romans 7:14-25 describes ongoing conflict...“I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” That reflects a will aligned with good that still fails in practice.

Galatians 5:17 says the flesh and Spirit are in opposition...“so that you do not do what you want.” This is addressed to those who have the Spirit, so the conflict remains.

Philippians 1:6 says the work will be brought to completion, which means it is not complete yet.

Before it’s raised, Hebrews 10:26 is not about ordinary ongoing sin. The context describes willful rejection of Christ and treating his sacrifice as worthless. It is a warning about apostasy, not a claim that any continued sin disproves new birth. Reading it that way would contradict 1 John 1.

Hebrews also emphasizes perseverance over time (3:12-14), which only makes sense if believers can struggle and drift, not if they exist in sinless perfection.

Finally, 1 John 3:6-9 cannot mean “never sins” without making John contradict himself in the same letter. The consistent reading is that believers do not live in unbroken, unrepentant sin as a pattern. Sin no longer rules them, but it is still present.

So the position is straightforward. Those born of God can and will still sin, there is real internal conflict, and there is real progress until final completion.

"Before anything else, I’m setting aside your side question about whether Jesus established “Christianity.” It’s not part of the resolution"

Ok I'll give you some time to think about it being that you couldn't answer for an excuse of a so called resolution.

Scripture teach be prepared to give an answer to every man.

Let's get to your scripture. I'm not interested in somebody's rambling mouth but it speaking the oracles.

Scripture say if any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God.

Also when you reference scripture without quoting it, it's not given nor spoken so it won't be acknowledged.

You actually have to give the scripture.

So you gave 2 Corinthians 3:18,1 John 1:8-10,Romans 7:14-25,Galatians 5:17

and whatever else relevant because you did a bunch of referencing without breaking anything down, if you're an atheist, it's expected, but none of these we read the people of God continue on in sin.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 , what does this verse say? Go ahead and quote it.

Philippians 1:6 ,what does this verse say? Go ahead and quote it.

Since you gave Romans 7, let's line it up with Romans 6.

A similar discussion of this topic can be found on the YouTube channel J. Talks to the people.

Romans 6

Well, let's back it up to Romans 5.

"19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous"

Oh....made righteous. Nobody said nobody wasn't made a sinner. Regardless of you being atheist or not. Even if you haven't sinned like Adam. Some will say ...I didn't sin, Adam sinned. Death still reigns over you because of it.

Death is there because sin is there. But here it says "made righteous". Does righteous mean sin or sinner?

If it does, somebody lying. If it means that , you're made sinner and stayed a sinner which is not what this is saying here.

Read on.

"20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

Grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life.

Highlight this. We're going to tie this into the next chapter, chapter 6.

******Grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life. *******

Romans 6 and we begin at verse one.

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?"

Now..... there's the question.

What is the topic question?

"Can you sin and go on sinning in Christ being born of God ?"

The next verse is going to answer this question and it's truthfully.... positively..... without a doubt ..... without question afterwards ...ends this lack of a debate but..... education session.

The opposing side says yes.

Let's see what scripture says.

"2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?"

Oh....so that's a no.

I dare the opposing side to challenge what God forbids as a "by all means yes, you knock yourself out".

It goes on to say how, how are you going to live any longer in it?

Watch verse 4.

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life"

So there should be a newness of life. How are you going to live any longer therein sin with a newness of life?

That be confusing. Scripture say God is not the author of confusion. There's a new life. Scripture teaches old things are passed away, all things are made new. You're a new creature.

The passage in Romans 6 just completely outlines this.

I don't have to go through every verse. We liable to be in this same round until the second coming. May not even be worth all that if it is all falling on death ears. Scripture teaches having ears they cannot hear.

"11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord."

If you dead unto sin, the dead aren't doing anything, let alone sin. But being alive unto God, you live in God where there's no sinning.

Let's drop to verse 17.

"17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you."

If you were the servant of sin, you don't serve sin any longer. Before you become a servant of righteousness, you are a servant of sin because you're free of righteousness. So likewise , you have to be free from sin.

"22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life."

*****Grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life.*****

Not sin , but by the Grace of God, it reigns, therefore righteousness reigns or rules, and through righteousness, unto everlasting or eternal life.

You're free from sin. What does that mean? You serve God. You can't serve God with sin. You are holy for the Lord your God is holy .

Unless you haven't repented of sin.

Now, let me knock off with 1 John 3.

"6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him."

What's the topic question?

"Can you sin and go on sinning in Christ being born of God ?"

Scripture says whoever in him sinneth not. The opposing side is saying yes trying to make this scripture a lie.

It's the opposite side contradicting 1 John 3 with 1 John 1.

Scripture says of all thy getting get understanding.

The topic is dealing with "Can you sin being born of God?"

It's not dealing with never sinning at all.

"7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous."

This lines up with Romans 6. You don't do righteousness by doing sin, you just do righteousness. You serve God from being born of God

"8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil."

Son of God was the example that sinned not and spoken to others to do the same of being perfect as the Father.

"9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."

Seed unto the fruit. Scripture say But he that receiveth seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth .

Being born of the incorruptible seed of the word, bringing forth fruit. Only a corrupt tree bring forth evil fruit, not a good true the bible teaches.

"Can you sin being born of God?"

Verse 9 says whosoever , you , he, whoever cannot sin.

Is the opposing side gonna turn around and say yea?

What kind of incorruptible seed you got that still brings forth corrupt fruit?

Can you go in sinning?

God forbids according to Romans.

So there you go. Romans and John kills the opposing side. The opposing side butchered and made shipwreck of 1 John .

So my advice, consider what I say. Just fall back on this subject.

avatar Pro #4

Before getting into your verses, I’m going to clean up what you’re doing here because it’s the same pattern again...you shift the claim.

The question is whether someone born of God can and will still sin. My position has never been, 'grace means keep living in sin however you want'. Your entire use of Romans 6 is aimed at a claim I did not make. The issue is not whether believers should remain in sin as a lifestyle...it’s whether they still commit sin at all within a life that is being changed for the better until final glorification.

Now let’s deal with your actual texts.

Romans 6:1-2 says, “Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.” Agreed. But read what Paul is rejecting...using grace as a justification to remain under sin. He is not teaching sinless perfection. The whole chapter is about a change in dominion. Sin no longer rules. You are no longer a slave to sin. That is not the same as saying a believer never commits another sin.

You say “dead to sin means the dead don’t do anything.” That’s not how Paul is using the language. It’s relational and covenantal...not literal. If “dead to sin” meant total absence of sin, then there would be no reason for any command to resist sin, no need for sanctification, and no internal conflict passages at all.

Now here is where your argument collapses.

1 John 2:1 says “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”

That is written to believers. John tells them not to sin… and then immediately acknowledges that they do sin and points them to Christ as their advocate. That alone disproves the idea that being born of God means you cannot sin in any sense.

And that lines up perfectly with 1 John 1:8...“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” Again, addressed to believers.

So now you have a problem. You are reading 1 John 3 as “cannot sin at all,” but John himself already told believers they do sin and must not deny it.

That means 1 John 3 cannot be talking about absolute sinlessness. It is talking about pattern and identity. The one born of God does not live in sin as a settled, unrepentant practice. Sin is no longer their master. That fits Romans 6. Your reading does not.

You even say the topic is not “never sinning at all,” but then you turn around and argue exactly that from 1 John 3. That’s a contradiction in your own position.

So everything lines up much more cleanly on my side.

Believers are no longer under sin’s dominion (Romans 6). Believers still sin and must not deny it (1 John 1:8). Believers who sin have an advocate (1 John 2:1). Believers do not live in sin as their identity or practice (1 John 3).

That is consistent. Your reading forces John to contradict himself and turns Romans 6 into something it was never arguing.

So the question you need to answer, along with core questions you ignored from my response.

When 1 John 2:1 says “if any man sin, we have an advocate,” who is John talking about...and how does that fit with your claim that someone born of God cannot sin?

Things ignored from my last response...

You never addressed the distinction between sin’s dominion and sin’s presence (Romans 6 is about rule, not total absence).

You did not engage 1 John 2:1 at all, which explicitly says believers can sin and have an advocate.

You ignored 1 John 1:8 being written to believers, which directly contradicts your “cannot sin at all” reading.

You shifted the claim from “can and will still sin” to “should live in sin,” which is not my position.

You asserted 1 John 3 as absolute without reconciling it with 1 John 1-2, creating a contradiction you didn’t resolve.

Con #5

"The question is whether someone born of God can and will still sin. My position has never been, 'grace means keep living in sin however you want'. Your entire use of Romans 6 is aimed at a claim I did not make. "

Well then, if you don't fight Romans 6, you don't make a case against it so you might as well agree with me.

"The issue is not whether believers should remain in sin as a lifestyle...it’s whether they still commit sin at all within a life that is being changed for the better until final glorification."

No that's not the issue. I'm just going to bring you right back to the topic question.

"Can you sin and go on sinning in Christ being born of God ?"

So the issue is surrounding being born of God. If you know anything about being born of God, it is being born of the spirit. Being born again. No where in that question says anything about"final glorification " and "being changed for the better ".

You adding in all these extra things that cloud the basic subject which is dealing with being born again.

It's just as plain as that . We got plain scripture that teaches about them born of God.

Now you oughta come say amen to that and give up the mic.

"Romans 6:1-2 says, “Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.” Agreed. But read what Paul is rejecting...using grace as a justification to remain under sin. He is not teaching sinless perfection. The whole chapter is about a change in dominion. Sin no longer rules. You are no longer a slave to sin. That is not the same as saying a believer never commits another sin."

You cannot commit another sin if you are no longer a servant of it. No longer a slave to it.

The scripture said YE WERE.......WERE...the servants of sin.

Somebody saying I was a servant and still serve it or GOING TO SERVE IT or can't say I will never serve sin again, whichever way you spin it, you're double talking. It's double minded-ness.

So your doctrine, most likely christianity, your argument is unstable in all its ways like the scripture teaches.

"You say “dead to sin means the dead don’t do anything.” That’s not how Paul is using the language. It’s relational and covenantal...not literal. If “dead to sin” meant total absence of sin, then there would be no reason for any command to resist sin, no need for sanctification, and no internal conflict passages at all."

Dead to sin means you don't serve it. Period. How can a dead person serve anything, let alone sin?

Scripture teaches in Job, the dead ain't raising back out. The dead ain't doing anything. You are dead to sin, you ain't doing sin.

How are you going to do something God forbids? How are you going to do something but that which you are slave to obeying?

See , you haven't realized, those born of God have become vessels taken over as instruments of righteousness. This is how those the children of God don't sin because the holy Spirit is alive in them walking in them. There's no sin in the Father the holy Spirit. He's the one walking. This is what Paul teaches in 1-2 Corinthians 6.

You really got to go line upon line with this , here a little , there a little.

Of course there's going to be a command to repent and resist the devil or sin. There's always going to be the everlasting word. There always going to be laws. See, Paul taught that too. Is that the law is what?....... HOLY.

True holiness according to the bible .....exists..... and is everlasting.

Sanctification are those that have been born of God completely sanctified..how do we know?

They CANNOT SIN. THEY LET NOT SIN REIGN IN THEIR MORTAL.....MORTAL...MORTAL... BODIES... according to Romans 6.

Internal conflict is before being born again.

Like Simon who got baptized who you can say was a believer but was not born again. For his heart was not right and who gives you a new heart?

Don't read these scriptures and use common sense. Read them and find line upon line scriptures that explain each line.

Now I understand that you have all these objections and it's only because you simply haven't read far enough in the scriptures. Once you do, you're able to harmonize all these scriptures.

"Now here is where your argument collapses.

That alone disproves the idea that being born of God means you cannot sin in any sense."

Right, BELIEVERS. THE DEVIL IS A BELIEVER.

The subject is the children of God..those born of God.

See I don't even have to argue. I just let the scripture do the talking. Once you speak as the oracles of God my friend.

The scriptures says plainly those born of God cannot sin.

It's like you can't accept that written text because of your pre-conceived stance of other scriptures.

"And that lines up perfectly with 1 John 1:8...“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” Again, addressed to believers."

That's where you made shipwreck of the scriptures.

"So now you have a problem.

Your reading does not."

I got no problem. I doest well like the bible say.

Here is the topic question:

"Can you sin and go on sinning in Christ being born of God ?"

I'm going to have you do the honors.

What does 1 John 3:9 K.J.V. say?

"You even say the topic is not “never sinning at all,” but then you turn around and argue exactly that from 1 John 3. That’s a contradiction in your own position.

So everything lines up much more cleanly on my side."

Alright, this is easy. Just letting the scripture talk. Scripture teaches, think to take not what to say but the holy Spirit will give it to you.

So.......

Here is the topic question:

"Can you sin and go on sinning in Christ being born of God ?"

I'm going to have you do the honors.

What does 1 John 3:9 K.J.V. say?

"Believers are no longer under sin’s dominion (Romans 6). Believers still sin and must not deny it (1 John 1:8). Believers who sin have an advocate (1 John 2:1). Believers do not live in sin as their identity or practice (1 John 3).

That is consistent. Your reading forces John to contradict himself and turns Romans 6 into something it was never arguing."

First off the scripture don't argue. Not what they're for or good for according to the book of Timothy.

Notice how you keep saying.... believers..... believers..... believers. You won't say children of God. Those born of God because it's going to testify against you. Going to condemn you.

Scripture teaches those born of God CANNOT SIN....not sin sometimes and serve two masters ....which the scriptures say YOU CAN'T DO. You are only a servant to whom you obey. Scripture teach those born of God cannot sin which would mean they're holy unto an everlasting life as Romans 6 teaches and lines with Jesus where he basically said in John 3 , you have to be BORN of the spirit to enter the kingdom of God, eternal life. Jesus said this is life eternal.

"So the question you need to answer, along with core questions you ignored from my response.

When 1 John 2:1 says “if any man sin, we have an advocate,” who is John talking about...and how does that fit with your claim that someone born of God cannot sin?

Things ignored from my last response..."

Any man that sins . Just as it says. Any man not born of God and who you say is a believer. You said it yourself. A believer. Which the topic is not dealing with just a believer. A believer can be still a servant of sin which YOU DON'T DENY.

The devil believes.

The scriptures say "He that committeth sin is of the devil".

You ain't really saying nothing. You can do nothing against the truth.

"You never addressed the distinction between sin’s dominion and sin’s presence (Romans 6 is about rule, not total absence).

You asserted 1 John 3 as absolute without reconciling it with 1 John 1-2, creating a contradiction you didn’t resolve."

Here's my address buddy. You making total shipwreck of all these scriptures.

So to close this out.

Here is the topic question:

"Can you sin and go on sinning in Christ being born of God ?"

I'm going to have you do the honors.

What does 1 John 3:9 K.J.V. say?

Then tell me do I have TO CLAIM what you just read.

I'm having a good time with this. Scriptures say I delight.

Con #7

Jesus said "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites".

The opposing side is not just a coward but a straight up hypocrite.

Talking about being honest and the opposing side will not confess that the scripture explicitly says in 1 John 3 and 9 "No one who is born of God will continue to sin".

I wonder did the opposing side know this scripture was in the bible before taking this topic.

It was like "oops , well fake it til I make it til it's over".

The topic is : Can you sin and go on sinning in Christ being born of God ?

What is the answer according to 1 John 3 and 9?

No one born of God will continue to sin. Not even debatable but the opposing side tried.

Scripture says let God be true and every man a liar. The opposing side wants us to believe the opposing side's interpretation versus what scripture has actually as written.

I believe what is written in 1 John 3 because we can read it as written .

Scripture say we having the same spirit of faith according to as IT IS WRITTEN.

The opposing side dodged the questions and that's a forfeit. Scripture say be prepared to give an answer. The opposing side evaded the question of what does 1 John 3 and 9 say .

The opposing side would not say what it says because it'll condemn the opposing case. Scripture say by your words you are justified and by your words you are condemned.

If you confident in what you got to say , you won't run into cowardice.

Scripture says " teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence".

The opposing side's position on this topic is nothing we can learn concerning the Lord Jesus Christ so the opposing side is not confident at all .

Jesus teach you a liar claiming to follow him but still doing the deeds of darkness which is sin.

Sin is of the devil and the opposing side handed out a doctrine of devils. As the scripture say resist the devil. Shonough the opposing side is fleeing.

It's false to say those BORN OF GOD CONTINUE TO SIN according to 1 John 3 and 9.

Scripture teaches about those spreading falsehood and that their mouths must be stopped.

Be it that the opposite side has nothing else to say, the person's mouth has been stopped.

"Just more dishonest argumentation."

What a straight hypocrite.

You got your mouth stopped.

What does 1 John 3 and 9 say?

The person won't say because the person's own words will testify against the person.

Stay off this subject.. just stay out of the bible.

Plus I believe the opposing side is completely misunderstanding the difference between somebody with no sin and continuingggggggggg in sin.

Somebody NO LONGER sinning is not saying that somebody was sinless or never has sinned ever.

If you're going to discuss these things, get understanding first. Scriptures about people saying they're sinless are totally irrelevant.

We're talking about sinners that STOP SINNING. WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT BEING SO CALLED SINLESS.

Readers, read 1 John 3 and 9. The opposing side refuses receiving biblical refutation. This is biblical refutation, not argumentation.

When I have bible that explicitly READS my position, I don't even have to argue. I can just quote.

Case closed.
