Round 1

Pro #2

Thank you, mag1cman.

I affirm the resolution: You will accept this debate. Before I begin I want to offer a few important definitions:

  1. You: second-person pronoun used to refer to the person or people being addressed, whether in speech or writing (In this case, myself Kohai)
  2. Will: a modal verb to express the future tense or a noun referring to determination and conscious choice
  3. Accept: multiple definitions, see below in framework.
  4. This: a demonstrative pronoun or determiner used to identify a specific person, object, or idea that is present, near in time or place, or currently being discussed
  5. Debate: a structured, formal discussion or contest of ideas between two opposing sides regarding a specific topic

With that, let's begin.

Framework

The debate resolution should be understood to mean that I, kohai, will accept this debate. In this case, I am affirming that I, kohai, will accept this debate. In order for me to win I must show that I will accept this debate. But what does the word accept mean? If I can show that I accepted this debate in one or more ways then a vote for PRO is warranted.

Contention 1: I accept this debate

As I hinted to in the framework, we must determine what accept means. If I accept in any form of that word then I win this debate. Let's begin

Contention 2: I love debates!

Go through my profile and you'll see my love of debates. From my many accounts on debate.org to becoming a mod on DART and helping build this new website it should go to say that I reallllly love debates. It should then follow that I would be willing to accept such a debate. I will use dictionary.com as the source for definnitions.

A. to take or receive (something offered); receive with approval or favor.

In this case, I accepted this debate when I clicked "Accept debate."

B. to agree or consent to; accede to.

I agree and consent to the rules of this debate. Hence, I accept this debate.

C. to respond or answer affirmatively to.

As pro I am affirming the resolution.

D. to undertake the responsibility, duties, honors, etc., of.

It is an honor to debate this with you and I undertake the responsibilities of being a debater.

E. to regard as true or sound; believe.

I believe the title of the resoluiton "You will accept this debate." As such, I belive that is true, reasonable, and sound. You cannot convinece me otherwise.

So in multiple ways of the word, "You will accept this debate" is affirmed.

Contention 3: I love a good troll debate

This debate isn't serious. It's a funny troll topic. In reality, voters should vote on which side trolls harder and funnier. Given that I do enjoy a good troll debate it should be no surprise that I accepted it. Evidence: Go back to the beginning of the site when I accepted (and defeated) mag1cman's draw debate where I drew, drew, drew.... this debate

Contention 4: I did, in fact, accept this debate

The fact that I'm typing this message in this debate and the fact that kohai is the debater is posiitve evidence that I will and did accept this debate.

Conclusion

The framework I presented + my four contentions prove that "You [I] will accept this debate. Thank you and please vote pro.

Got that GM title yall! No, not for chess. I’m tryna turn a restaurant around. Which is why I’m so busy.

Anyway here’s my argument.

  1. From the start of the debate we are arguing about whether or not my opponent will accept this debate.
  2. My opponent accepted this debate before said debate started.
  3. My opponent has already accepted this debate, therefore my opponent cannot accept this debate.
  4. Given the above, my opponent will not accept this debate.

Steelman: Continual acceptance is not a thing, you are just acting upon a debate you already accepted… y’know before we started debating on whether or not you will accept. Refer back to the argument above.

semantics is valid. I’m the only one who provided a framework thus voters should use my framework and vote pro

Criterion Con Tie Pro

Con doesn't argue until the final round, which puts an undue burden on Pro if they are expected to respond to all of that in the final round. In addition, Con drops the framing of the debate and pretty much all of Pro's contentions, which basically hands this to Pro since deciding the resolution requires knowing how to interpret it.
Criterion Con Tie Pro
Winner
Con made a good valid argument about future tense of topic which cannot be true in present anymore, however forfeiting 1 round and basically forfeiting another as well and then also another, makes me unable to figure out how to vote on this debate, given that its also a troll debate.

Pro ends up winning the debate mostly by default after that first round. Con doesn't specifically address any of Pro's arguments, including the framework, and since that framework specifies that Pro must only demonstrate that he accepted the debate in some way, shape or form and then he lists out several means by which it could be argued that he accepted it, that's basically a concession of the debate. Even if I took Con's final round argument into account, it only lays out a single semantic argument, so I could buy his argument entirely and still end up voting Pro. Hence, that's what I do.
