Round 1

1 of 2

Abortion - The termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus

Fetus - an offspring of a human or other mammal in the stages of prenatal development that follow the embryo stage

Embryo - an unborn or unhatched offspring in the process of development, in particular a human offspring during the period from approximately the second to the eighth week after fertilization

I believe that committing to an abortion is you murdering that baby, that in mind your murdering someone before they can even decide anything. I believe that if a woman can decide to have unprotected sex and get nutted in then she should take responsibility and have the child. Once you become pregnate that is when the person begins to exist inside of you, you can take care and birth that child regardless of if you want it or not. You can just as easily put the baby up for adoption just as easily as you decide to take it from this world.

My definitions can clearly show that the killing of a Fetus or Embryo is considered murder regardless of how far along the child is in the womb. Im not saying Abortion is wrong, my agruement is that its murder. I believe the Fetus is a human and that the intentional termination of said fetus is unlawful killing of a human. You can't bring something into the word and kill it then said its not murder because they aren't like you yet.

Con #2

The term murder is a legal term . No where in the world according to research is killing the unborn murder.

Thus it is proven that it can't be by nature and or technicality murder in legal terms of the land which this is the only context we have demonstrably.

For some advisement, the opposite side may wish to amend the topic for future use to " Is abortion wrong/incorrect/harmful/destructive/unhealthy...etc.

Case closed.

Round 2

2 of 2

No, I think I said what I meant... Abortion is Murder. And no shit that no where its stated that killing the unborn is murder that's why I'm having this debate, I feel that the act of Abortion should be considered some sort of murder either its a new form or 1st degree, you know that the baby inside of you will grow up to become a fully flesh human being and you decide to take that away by killing your fetus.

And what sort of debate are you having where you only bring up one point that does nothing but express your opinion and one fun fact? You are not fun to debate if you think that is enough to win.

the word “murder” can be used in everyday language and media without referring to the legal definition. In common usage, it often describes a killing that is violent, intentional, or morally wrong, even if it doesn’t meet the strict legal criteria for a criminal conviction

Doesn't still make a fetus a human. Fetus would be still, potential human. The debate of Abortion ultimately falls down on how much human do you consider a fetus. And for me, because I read it in a book. A Fetus, till half ounce, is a bunch of cells. No different from a sperm or ova. There's little to no evidence that it can feel pain even in the last stages of pregnancy. I assert that feeling pain and being conscious is an essential quality a human must possess. Without these 2, a human can become a corpse. And a human yet to have these 2 is called a fetus. It has a brain, but no mind. I has neurons but can't feel pain. You can kill me, because I have a mind. You can't kill a fetus, because it's already dead, or yet to become alive.

Hmm makes sense... But I think that I did my analysis... Con was Emotional, rather than logical. So that's my point.... the rest was my argument... there wasn't really much to analyse, it was a very short debate...

You claim a fetus is not human? Tell me what other animal a human fetus will be since its DNA, when tested, matches as human when tested. It is possible to test the DNA of any animal or plant and determine exactly what lifeform it is. Just because the fetus is prenatal [before birth] doea not mean we do not know what it is postpartum [after birth]. Guess what: it is human from even before conception, because science can also test the DNA of the gametes [the ovum and sperm] to know they are human and no other animal nor plant. That, even though both sex gametes reepresent just half the whole DNA double-helix.

Miscarriage is a natural event. Abortion is a deliberate, unnatural [i.e., it is intervention by either the pregnant woman herself, or another, hopefully a medical professional] to perfoerm the abortion] event. Miscarriage ≠ abortion, eventhough the results are about the same: the pregnacy is ended. Legally, the commission of murder is the deliberate ending of a human life. I've just defined for you what constitutes "human." Life," I hope you already understand.

Legally, murder is the deliberate taking of a human life. Also legally, there are variable circumstrances that play into why the murder occurs, and those circumstances addreess what the legal consequences there are for the murder taking place. We do not murder a dog or a horse, even if they are deliberately killed, soimply because they are not human. Murder only applies legally to humans.

Clear, now?

Pro is Emotional. Con is Logical. Murder and Abortion are different. I expected better from the Con. But if it's a who stinks less battle then I will go with the Con. U could have said that pain is necessarily wrong, and abortion is fundamentally morally wrong, then it would have been something defendable. Calling Abortion Murder takes the line to something undefendable. And a mere dictionary definition is enough for con to prove you wrong.

Your vote is not factually correct, or I would say that it doesn't convey the right message. Pro says Abortion = Murder, and you said that Abortion= not miscarriage but willful termination of human life. It has many problems with it, 1. fetus isn't human, it doesn't meet the very definition of Termination of HUMAN life. 2. Abortion is not murder if it's not natural. It can cause health and psychological risks to the mother. Financial Risks to the parents. Just Like Prosecution isn't murder but punishment. Abortion is necessarily health care or a choice, no where near willful termination of a human life

One might also review the 2004 Unborn Victims of Violence Act. Currently, it specifically disallows prosecution under this act for purposes of abortion, where legal, but, that specific provision in this act could be legislatively removed in consideration of the reversal of Roe v. Wade,

Your claim in your R2 that "murder is a legal term," as if there is no other use of it, is according to Yale
Law, incorrect. Furthermore, there may be, according to the same source, now that Roe v Wade has been overturned, murder cases may be brought in several states, such as GA.

Criterion Pro Tie Con
Winner
Pro met the burden of proof in this debate. The Resolution, "Is Abortion Murder" is a straightforward commentary because abortion, as defined by Pro, and not disputed by Con, is "The termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus." It is differentiated from a miscarriage because abortion is not a natural act, whereas miscarriage is. Therefore, abortion is a willful act performed on another human, as Pro argues. Con's argument in R1 is that "Murder is a legal term." Con fisnished R1 by claiming the debate concluded ["Case closed."] With another round of argument scheduled, this was premature.Yes, murder can be a legal term, but Pro's R2 rebuttal to Con's "legal" argument was: "the word “murder” can be used in everyday language and media without referring to the legal definition." This is a more prevalent argument- Con's R2 drifted fropm argument to personal attack with "...save the rant for the schoolyard." which is not a valid argument or rebuttal, and by, again, declaring "case closed."

The case is closed on Con. Pro wins by argument.
