Though I'm not sure when humans 'were humans,
300,000 years ago, 800,000 years ago, either is an amazing timeframe.

What one has at hand, and are constantly doing, is something they have some skill at, by practice and frequent observation, I suppose.

I saw interview with teh song writer who as gold miner bossman --in some mines was called Master Jack-- an as the black workers got 35 cts a day, he sat with his helmet lamp on writing poetry and trying to some of them off as songs. So at first I thought the video was a Christian thing, with obvious references to it, then,
After seeing the interview, I realized it as all about the writer David Marks or Penn? learned from his experiences and the end the lady sing looks at sky and says, and I thank you master jack -i.e. for he the writer learned from being in those mines--- and she ends with, dont know if Im ever coming back. So first time around I thought she was Master Jack was God, and she didnt know if she was coming back into existence.

Apparrently Mammoth bones if not also large sloths etc. Animals were bigger in last ice age, I dont know about 100,000 plus years ago.

True. Often we dont realize what the specific ecological environment may have been for those peoples. Plentiful wildlife, even if the averages of human life span was much lower.
They lived, reproduced and spread far and wide for most part. Mammoth and Australian { 50,000 yrs ago } above was new for me.
New genetic evidence for perhaps 30 peoples coming from Valley of Mexico, bringing with them their elite religous ancient blood practices if not terrorism to create the Chaco Canyon development in New Mexico.
A criminologist for years had looked at bones from Chaco and the southwest and expressed concerns of cutting and scraping of human bones as cannibalism practices. It was only more recently, in some site in lower Colorado, then found preserve human feces and proteins in the feces that only comes from human muscles attached to the bones.
