The theme for Black History Month 2026 is "A Century of Black History Commemorations". Selected by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), this theme marks the 100th anniversary of the celebration's inception by Carter G. Woodson in 1926. It explores how, over the past century, these commemorations have transformed the status of Black people in the modern world.
