Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) is a military doctrine where the full-scale use of nuclear weapons by two opposing sides would result in the complete annihilation of both the attacker and the defender.This strategy, based on the theory of deterrence, assumes that the threat of retaliation prevents either side from initiating a nuclear attack, as both sides would be destroyed in the process. MAD is a form of Nash equilibrium where, once armed, neither side has an incentive to start a conflict.
