I'd like it if no vote debates didn't affect stats, that can be really annoying.

Also props to the developers this site has been moving along at an impressive pace!

It would be great if there were a "preview" button for when you post a round in a debate so you can make sure there's no formatting issues before hitting the "post" button.

I second that motion.

I think if a specific section for debates over voice chat was added, the site would be improved. Certain members could be approved as unbiased moderators in order to keep debates in order, and much like the written debates, the rules would be agreed upon before hand. It would also add potential for this site to gain widespread popularity as YouTube videos of the voice chat debates could be recorded, which would encourage the viewers to participate.

Also, some kind of indication that shows whether a person is online or offline if they choose to enable that setting.

Hi, site dev here. Video debates are one thing we're considering. Tbh, there are a lot of features we could add, so it's nice to get feedback on what particular things people want. For now, video debates will probably be organized on the Discord.

I just looked up something akin to debate website and this was one of the first that I saw. Video/voice chat debates in the future would definitely be an encouragement to primarily use this site over others. Also, if you were to contact YouTubers (@InspiringPhilosophy for example) and offer them opponents to debate topics that they are interested in, as well as an approved moderator, that could be an easy way to boost the site’s popularity as the viewers will all see the site.

You could also add something like skill based matchmaking so that as the site grows it isn’t super cluttered. People would primarily have access to people around their skill/knowledge level, though people could of course choose to manually invite someone at a much lower or higher level to debate them.

That's been a hope of ours for a while. We did get a few AMAs a while back on the old site, but no one high-profile willing to debate on the site.

We do have a feature for that called "Ultrarated debates," but no one has used it yet. (It requires taking quizzes on voting and then voting on other debates to get credits, so a bit complicated at the moment). But hopefully as we grow that will eventually take off.

It looks like if I signed up for ultra rated debate I could get signed up for a topic I have no interest in, so for that reason I would not be willing to. If it had a place where I could choose the genre (like religion, Christianity, or philosophy) and I could just choose the genres I was interested in and within that category there would be a random debate, then I would sign up.

I understand if thats not really the point of ultra rated; thats just why it doesn’t appeal to me.

Having a way to bookmark debates would be nice, I have a few which I'd be interested in voting on over the next few days.

That's true, of course, and it's not a particularly important feature. Still, a system to keep track of debates would reduce clutter considering most are ones I'd only want to revisit once.

I recommend pinning so others can see and interact with this.

When @'ing someone, it would make me a lot happier if it doesn't only reference the guy being tagged, but also the post. Knowing how chronically online some of us are, we'd be posting quite a many times by the time a post chain becomes controversial enough for me (or you) to rest 'em gleaming eyes on. And, let me tell you cuz there ain't no lie, it is quite the spectacle to see me joining late in a conversation replying to the first post in the chain (because that is the topic n' allat), then see the same guy who created it all talking about ol' Donny Trump some 28 pages later or something like that. That kind of defeats the purpose of weighing in when the topic becomes hot enough to cook an engine and start an egg. Quite counterintuitive, don't yall agree?

I strongly agree with this. It hurts when you feel like you totally dominated in a debate and get punished because nobody bothered voting.

Voting itself is too complicated and time consuming.

And what's the point of me or anyone else voting, if the moderators continually remove votes.

DebateCraft debates are a niche section of a niche website, and voting has somewhat arrogantly, been made super-niche.

This is a fair point. It's a constant battle between wanting to have high quality debates and also high quality votes. Not everyone has the time and energy to spend writing a long RFD.

Though within the context and limitations of the medium, voting will always come with an element of whimsy, bias and disinterest.

So you might as well employ the tick box system of voting, because you can ever only assume the sincerity of the voter.

You could also employ a mandatory system, whereby each time a member signs in, they are prompted to provide at least one vote before continuing with other functions of the site.

It would make more sense for it to become unranked or something at that point

Proposal for the forums; I would love to see a feature where when replying to a post, instead of scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the page, the window opens up right under the post for you to type your response.

When replying to a post that’s near the top of the page I (and I imagine everyone else) find myself constantly scrolling back and forth, up and down to find the post and to copy the next section to reply to. It’s really tedious. I wouldn’t want or expect the response to appear under it once submitted, the window would be just for drafting purposes.

Great feedback. I’ll add that to my roadmap for when I get to the forum section.

Culture, current events, and politics are basically the same forum. I see no reason not to merge the three into politics

Before, there was a column of newest threads and a column of active posts, which is now "trending". Newest threads has been replaced with a list of the latest posts per category, which often makes new threads difficult to find.

I keep coming across threads I missed because someone created the thread and then someone commented on a thread in the same category, and the new thread is hidden. I'd like to see new threads come back. The first thing I do when I come on is see if there are any interesting new threads, it's impractical to look at each category to see if there are any new threads.
