Make Efforts to be Kind | Forum

History has shown in ddo and dart that people leave when they feel harassed.

This isnt a website to test the emotional resolve or to train them to deal with arguement outside the debate, this isnt a purist website to let in only the most qualified or the most base of people,

This is a website for debating ideas, and throughout history of DDO and DART i see most of the same people harassing others and using mocking language to create their own echo chamber and to dismiss ideas.

This is not a matter of how you or i feel, its a matter of preserving a website from failing. I am giving suggestions that i believe will help people to be intrested in this website and to hang around longer.

Purist mentality doesnt pay the bills, we must learn to be kind and respect each other, or my perdiction SHALL come to pass. The discord is sufficient if you desire an echo chamber, discord can host people for free, websites however, cannot.

It is in everyone's best intrest to be civil and respect the wishes of others. If this cannot be done, then this place shall be defunct.

This doesnt mean agree in debates, it doesnt mean always say flowery words. But when someone says stop, it means stop.

It is my hope that with a new owner, we can help create a climate of decency in this website, we can implement new rules without personal bias or for the sake of someone's approval or some person lining the pockets if rules are changed to fit their needs.

A whale is never satisfied, neither is an egotistical person, they will always want more dominion, authority and recognition. Do not be foolish and follow the money.

Create a good enviroment, then more people will come, honest debaters who care about their ideas, rather than getting a win.

From what I saw, most people cant even handle losing a debate, and will quit site after losing 1 debate. But I can understand that while site cannot protect someone from losing a debate other than maybe giving debating tutorials so person is given room to improve, we truly can all try to be kind, but I have never seen a debate site where people are kind. Even modern day debate has so many insults flying around. I would sometimes even think insults are what drives conversations there. Most people who are into debate truly lack supportive type of mentality necessary for kind conversations.

Reciprocity is useful,

I suppose some people just want to rant online, or attack, put on a show, amuse themselves.

Seems a bit short sighted at times though,

People and relationships are a renewable resource, so long as you don't poison the well.

I suppose it depends what one wants to get out of a debate, or how one views those one debates with.

Ideally I view the people I talk with and debate with, as friendly acquaintances.

Friendly conversations, friendly debates as games or truth seeking.

I like talking at times, other times I'm looking for what other people know.

And it can be hard to get people to talk to you sometimes, if you're rude or constantly dominate a conversation.

But maybe some people can find an audience anywhere,

Depending on what they are looking for.

. . . Lot of content online, lot of different platforms and alternate profiles.

. . . Course, even before the internet, I'd 'imagine some people were rude in public forums and meeting places.

Thanks for feedback. I know its hard to do what im asking. But hopefully it will make debatecraft grow.

And if people are for more rugged language and what not, we still have the discord!

Back in the DDO days, the Religion forum was considered the worst one for its toxicity.

On DART, there was a user in the politics forum who has a habit of posting inflammatory threads, and went out of his way to be an aggressive asshole to anyone who disagreed with him even once. Hot temp banned twice and thankfully, he’s hasn’t appeared since then. Since then, I’d say the politics forum is the worst one.

Even on DCraft today, politics is definitely the worst one. Even the less obnoxious people there will still have some insanely bad faith responses to anything you say, interpreting everything in the worst possible light.

No one has really crossed into ban worthy territory yet. But it’s just not a good forum. I’ve been thinking to create some high quality threads for that forum to help it, but I’m kinda busy irl.
