Which side of the Skyrim civil war did you pick?

I dont exactly remember, didnt care much about civil war in Skyrim. The only thing I ever did in Skyrim was finish main plot and join mage's guild and finish their plot. Also, I did join that warrior's guild as well, which turns out is werewolf guild... I dont think it matters much which side you pick. Its been a long time since I played Skyrim.

Imperials, I'm not against Skyrim for the Nords, but I think Skyrim is stronger by being part of the Imperial Empire.

During the first part of the game, I don't think I even realized there were two choices, I was that quick to run inside away from the dragon.

So Imperials by accident too.

I've played some games in Skyrim where I join the Stormcloaks, but I've never gotten very far progressing those games.

. . . Hm, I'm not sure I've even played the whole Civil War questline to completion more than once.

Yeah I hate Ulfric. Power hungry blowhard Thalmor plant. Neither him or General Tullius are desirable leaders. Elisif is too inexperienced. Not a lot of good options.

I go Imperial as well though. Ultimately a fractured Empire is what the Thalmor want; it's why they want Ulfric to succeed. It's very clear the Empire did not want to outlaw Talos worship, they just had no other choice.

Hard to choose the Empire when they tried to decapitate you though. That moment when you're not on the list and they're like "oh well, they came in the wagon didn't they?" was enough to make me hard consider Stormcloak.

I'd figure most people would end up choosing Imperials,

Not as though other races have much reason to 'like the Stormcloak faction.

. . . Though trailers and starting race on the character select 'is a Nord.

Still, not as though all Nords support the Stormcloaks.

Imperials. I think a principled argument can easily be made in favor of the Stormcloaks, but just as easily, a practical argument can be made in favor of Skyrim being part of the empire.

Ultimately, my choice is because my fav city is Whiterun, and choosing the Stormcloaks causes it to get damaged. Is that a good reason? Probably not, but I spend a lot of time there in each play-through and I don't want it to get damaged. Granted, in my dozen play-throughs I've probably only finished the Civil War story-line once or twice, but I digress.

Is that the passing of the Baton?

I usually play as an elf and become a Stormcloak. I'm One of the Good Ones™. I like to imagine the other soldiers' confusion when the High Elf Vampire Lord Necromancer screams SKYRIM FOR THE NORDS and then raises their fallen comrades to shamble into battle once more.

Though I did once do a playthrough where I roleplayed as a Thalmor and went Imperial.

Those are all fantasy war games.

Yeah I hate Ulfric

He was actually one of my favorite characters because I found him to be very complex. Clearly brave, as he could have remained with the Greybeards but went to war out of a real sense of duty. A soldier who bled for the Empire and then returned home to find his people sold out to secure the empire's peace and buy time. Was captured and tortured, broke under torture, and then was lied to and told that the information he gave lead to the fall of the city his men died protecting. Goes to battle again to secure freedom to worship Talos and attempts to strongarm the Legion to allow freedom. They at first claim to do so, then stab him in the back and imprison him. His father dies while he's imprisoned. He becomes Jarl and then kills the young king in his duel with him, which I believe was genuinely an accident. Is captured again and escapes.

I really liked his character because, historically, this is what the leaders of rebellions are like. They're often broken people with a desperate cause, and that's exactly what they made Ulfric.

Very uninspiring character. Try reading about real heroes.

My read was like:

All Ulfric cares about is himself and his nationalism. That's why he doesn't give a shit about the Dunmer's plight in Windhelm; that's why he doesn't let Argonians into the city; that's why he killed a young man who couldn't use the Thu'um, had considerably less training, and looked up to him; and that's why he butchered civilians in the purge of the Reachmen from Markarth so he could secure Talos worship.

He's myopic. He only sees his kinsmen and Talos worship. He doesn't see at all that if Skyrim breaks away, it helps the Dominion, and once the Dominion take over completely, no one will be free except the High Elves. What's his game plan for if the rebellion succeeds? Skyrim fights the Dominion by itself? Insta-loss. Skyrim allies with other nations to take on the Dominion? Stormcloak nationalism doesn't lend itself well to such alliances, and the only other nations who might join, like Hammerfell, are in no position to give any aid.

He's serving up the Aldmeri a win on a silver platter and he doesn't care because his cause has a nice ring to it.

Buuut I'd never looked at him through a broken-man lens before. Would he be so blind or Captain Ahabby if he'd never been captured by the Thalmor during the Great War? Interesting perspective.

Stormcloak Altmer seems like a goated combo. If I was gonna do a Stormcloak playthrough I'd probably roll High Elf. Though I'd still hate having to fuck Jarl Balgruuf over. I liked him.

High Elf vampires just seem extra creepycool.

I think it'd be kind of cool if a game company kept working on a 'single sandbox game, but kept adding complexity, options, and choice.

If Skyrim was pen and paper RPG like Dungeons and Dragons, game might play out a lot different as a High Elf, maybe could join the Thalmor.

Well, consequences would be much the same as when other people dislike you I suppose, assassins sent after you.

Certainly enough 'mods for some games that they 'could.

Joining the wolf Queen as an undead for instance and killing all of Skyrim.

. . . I don't really like the 'save function in a lot of games though, feels cheap.

Though clunky computer design, both in glitches and plot, make it feel a necessity in some games.

Something I like about Kenshi, is it has a mix of danger, but is not gamestopping.

Even if X many squadmates die, squad and game can live on.

. . . Still I'd reload if I thought deaths unfair from glitches, or I wasn't paying attention and didn't 'notice some guy being attacked.

Death risk should be chosen, such as choosing a dangerous ruin, those deaths are fair.

But X enemy stumbling upon a miner I'm not paying attention to, feels unfair.

Their value increases with time.

These Skyrim political debates always make me wish Elder Scrolls games were a bit more dialogue intensive. You can never really comment on the civil war in the game with the nuance of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines or Knights of the Old Republic 2 or anything.

The civil war was about the different views on slavery between the North and South. The conclusion led to the civil war.

In all seriousness ive played both of them about equally. The only ones i dislike are the thalmor.
