My wife collects old U.S. Mint coins

Very quietly, since the 70s, my wife has been easily collecting ordinary, but old US minted coins just out of spare change from ordinary retail cash register coinage, and decided a couple of weeks ago to invest in a microscope built specifically for the high magnification of coinage. She has discovered that just by simple acquisition of these coins, she has a few which qualify for value serious collectors are will to pay big bucks for her coins, I.m taking tens of thousands od dollars. The first few coins by the the microscope covered the cost of the device, and she still has hundreds of coins she has not yet reviewed. I'm very proud of my bride. Her investment has already recovered enough value out of coins of face value of not more than 26 cents that will cover a vacation in Paris in September [both our birthdays are then] of 2026. Can't do it this year because of my recent knee surgery. Save your coins, guys. You may have a minor fortune in your pocket.

If I had the space, I'd be a hoarder.

Though 'ideally a hoarder of material that is well separated, labeled, and often sold.

Yeah, currently, we own about 150 lbs. of the stuff in coinage and boullion in 1 & 10-oz bars. I started buying gold and silver since before we were married at the suggestion of my father

Just out of curiosity what coins does she have that she thinks are valuable and why? I have been a coin collector for many years.

Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters that have variable value over the currency value. A few nickels [3] and 1 quarter have significant value over currency value - enough to be surprised by her casual collection effort. A fourth nickel [1943] has two "shadow" impressions on either side of the mint i.d. which is not discussed in any online reference she has found so far, so we have no idea what that one may be worth. She also has a few 19th century minted Morgan silver dollars she was given by her father for successive birthdays as a child. She also has one 1964-minted Kennedy half-dollar; the only year minted with 90% silver content. Why their worth? because collectors are willing to pay big bucks for them.
