Visiting my dad for a couple weeks.

Edit post

#302 •••

My only enjoyment of Tron: Ares was laughing at how bad the movie was, in a theater with no one but myself and two siblings.

Edit post

I still don’t know what to type!

The above thought is related to something I posted in the random thoughts thread on DART.

i still prefer that one tbh

Hope that you found your dad well, and had a good time together.

He's doing alright, trying to get his blood pressure down.

'Trying to eat healthier and walk more.

We watched the new Running Man in the Theaters,

Watched the older Running Man at home.

Watched The Day of the Triffids (1951) at home.

I preferred the last two movies mentioned,

The new Running Man just didn't do it for me.

Yes, motivation declines as we get older.

I see it all the time in my line of work.

I would say that there are only a few lucky people whose make up affords them more time...Which is to say a longer and less severe rate of decline...But decline they will.

At 50 I still felt invincible, at 60 I still felt good.

Now at 65 and rapidly approaching retirement, I plan to take up long distance walking...And although I am still mentally motivated to do so, I'm not sure that my knees will be so keen.

Perhaps I should take up cold water swimming instead...Though I think that cold water swimming is a pastime better suited to younger folk and suitably insulated older women.

My mom swims, about 40 minutes usually when she goes.

Says it's no problem at all on her knees.

She walks and hikes a bit too, says that's harder on her knees.

What about warmer water swimming?

Edit post

#310 •••
@Leaning

Hmmm.

Was never really conditioned to be a swimmer.

So, have never been a lover of public swimming facilities.

And warm water is just not a naturally available UK resource.

Just saw a couple movies on YouTube.

I enjoyed both of them.

The Court Jester (1955)

The Princess And The Pirate (1944)

It was kind of funny, The Princess and the Pirate. set in the pirate era, but one hears all the accents, lingo, and slang of the 50s.

I rarely watch "movies".

A. They have a tendency to be too time consuming.

B. My attention span and interest is such, that I will switch off and do something else.

In fact I rarely watch televisual entertainment for more than one hour per day. This is usually when I sit down for my main meal.

I spend more time before and during breakfast on DebateCraft, than I do watching TV.

Nonetheless, time to go now.

Not sure, but I saw on CBS news a study { UK } that show so many steps --or bicycling I presume-- a day reduce the onset of dementia.

I walk a fair amount for my job, and when not working, except in evening I watch Netflix of Prime Amazon.

Ive been a walker --and/or bicycists-- much of my life cause of jobs ive had, hitchhiker, and could not afford at cars in early years, and other reasons also came my way to walk more. Ive owned plenty of autos and driven plenty just to be clear.

Interesting, that, I rode my bike about 8 miles { or more } the other day and when I got off, my the knee joints and/or the muscles around the knees felt weak, and it was almost like my knees were going to give out. I went into house and took three steps lower into my living room and again, felt weak all around my knees/muscles area.

Later, I began to wonder if I was dehydrated, because, this occurred after getting out of bed --of course peed buch overnight-- and with not much exercise or water I drove my auto to mechanic, then rode the 8 miles, and I forgot to take water bottle with me.

My wife thought I was maybe correct in thinking it was dehydrated for that much exercise first thing out of bed. Legs/knees recovered after 30 minutes or so

Yep, exercise for all sorts of mental and physical benefits and wear out your legs accordingly...It's the yin and yang.

Though people who never exercise or look after themselves are more likely to develop circulatory problems, especially in the lower legs and feet, as well as general cardio-vascular issues and susceptibility to mental health decline.

It's the lesser of the two evils and one takes ones pick.

I've always opted for option 1...Running until I was 32 and started getting knee and tendon issues and cycling for the past 34 years.

Retiring fully in a few months, when I plan to start long distance walking...Still road cycling, but less so, indoor cycling more so, which is what I tend to do over winter anyway.

So keep up the exercise, eat and drink healthily, avoid nicotine products at all cost and avoid prescription drugs as much as possible...In my opinion derived from working in the pharmacy industry, over dependency on prescription drugs is sometimes more harmful than it is beneficial.

So stay fit and stay healthy Ebuc and enjoy the winter festival.

Lot of times I'll just list to movies, rather than watch them straight,

Maybe I'll glance back in if I want to see a scene.

@#321

I'd imagine medicine makes it easy for people to mask a problem, rather than fix it's cause.

Course, I'm not sure a lot of people 'would fix the problems anyhow, even if they didn't have medication.

Still, either way, better to fix the problem and live a healthier lifestyle. Whether people tend to or not.

I suppose medication might give people the 'opportunity to live longer, and fix their problem causes.

Medication is a critical tool for extending lifespan and addressing the root causes of diseases by managing chronic conditions, preventing complications, and repairing cellular damage

. By focusing on these underlying issues—such as inflammation, cellular aging, and metabolic dysfunction—treatments can allow individuals to live both longer and healthier lives.

Medication for Longevity and Underlying Causes

  1. Targeting Aging Mechanisms: Research indicates that certain drugs, such as metformin and rapamycin, can target the biological pathways of aging rather than just treating symptoms.
  2. Metformin: Originally for type 2 diabetes, this drug has anti-inflammatory effects that may protect against heart disease, cancer, and cognitive decline.
  3. Rapamycin: Known to extend lifespan in animals by inhibiting the mTOR pathway, which regulates cellular growth and metabolism.
  4. Fixing Underlying Issues:
  5. Heart Failure: Medications like ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers reduce fluid retention and fatigue, directly improving heart function.
  6. Cholesterol & Blood Pressure: Statins and antihypertensives not only lower numbers but prevent the damage to arteries that leads to strokes and heart attacks.
  7. Infections: Antibiotics can cure bacterial infections that might otherwise lead to severe, long-term health complications.
  8. Preventing Future Complications: Consistent medication use helps stabilize chronic conditions, reducing the risk of complications such as kidney failure, vision loss, or stroke.

Benefits to Life and Healthspan

  1. Increased Life Expectancy: Studies show that consistent use of blood pressure medications can reduce the risk of death by up to 44% in some individuals.
  2. Improved Quality of Life: By reducing pain and symptoms, medications help individuals maintain independence and remain physically active.
  3. Reduced Hospitalizations: Proper management of chronic diseases with medication reduces the need for emergency care.

Considerations

  1. Adherence is Key: Medications are only effective if taken as prescribed, yet only about half of chronic disease patients follow their regimen.
  2. Potential Risks: While effective, medications can have side effects (e.g., gastrointestinal issues with rapamycin) and may cause issues if not used correctly.
  3. Long-Term Impact: The goal of these treatments is to increase "healthspan"—the number of years a person is healthy and thriving—not just total lifespan.

So stay fit and stay healthy Ebuc and enjoy the winter festival

Because of my rotor cuffs going bad from over abuse { since 18 } and too many cortizone shots I started naproxin and tylenol semi-regular some 15 years or so. Im very good with all my pills and never ever go over the recommend amount and always minimize as best as I can.

Exercise I get plenty of. Stop smoking at about 22. Started drinking regular 2 - 3 beers { 5% } a night last 2 years. Black and tan Yuenlging

My family doctor says im a relative healthy individual. High cholestrol so I take statins some times, tho with two rotor cuff replacements with steel and plastic, I didnt need muscle fatigue before nor after those two surgeries.

Tizandine muscle relaxant I started for my lower back issues some 4 - 6 years ago. Half pill or full is recommended, I did halves for the first years, and maybe half if woke at 2AM not able to go back to sleep. Also sometimes do non-drowsy muscle relaxant sometimes at work.

Lorazapam is least powerful anti-anxiety { diasapam family } and mostly started some 10 years back, cause waking at 2AM couldnt go back to sleep. Finally realized that Ive the word for my tempermament is anxiety a couple or three years ago. Duhh!

Allergic to cow dairy so Ive done Benadryl P usedon dramine also for nausea { motion sickeness } over the years. Occasionally do dociline succinate { Uninsom } tho mostly stopped that couple three years back. Cant build a tolerance to it like Dramamine, and person stays grogerer in AM of doing it.

Do various supllments to help with inflamation, and most expensive supllement is the good one of two kinds of SAMe. Its not a prescription in USA like it is Europe. Azendus makes the good moelcular one.

Oh yeah, Gabapentin is must for my sicatica, tho ive been able to keep it to minimal 3 pills a day, except for couple of years I went to four pills a day. I changed out my mattress and put piece of thin underlayment plywood on a new cheapo spring mattress, and my leg cramps in the AM for 4 years, rarely occur now. YAY!

I do prednisolone like clockwork, tho it and those who use Tramadol or regular basis have increased chance of heart related issues. I have a minor heart murmur and thats ok as long as it doesnt get worse. FIngers crossed

Can intrusive thoughts be about health?

Health Concern Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a sub-type of OCD that causes a person to have obsessive thoughts about developing a serious medical condition. The intrusive thoughts that a person with Health Concern OCD experiences are irrational and exaggerated, which create the need to perform compulsions to cope.

Hmmmmm.

I have slightly raised blood pressure, though I have always had slightly raised blood pressure.

So since my early 50's I take something called perindopril, one per day...That's my lot.

I haven't seen a doctor in 15 years...Only ever see nurses for blood pressure reviews and regular ear unblocking...I have very narrow ear canals.

My eyes and glasses aid in local observations and reading material, yet my access to meta-space mind/intellect/concepts and ego, allow me get outside of my local observations only. Yay!.

Some new evidence that Dark Energy is not a constant acccleration after all, ergo a Big Crunch via Gravity is coming back into consideration.

I believe in entropic heat death of Universe, where in our physical reality becomes ultra-large, ultra-long wave frequency, flattened 3D tetrahedron { as a single photon } that is flattened out, ---and subdivided-- with a left and 5-fold icosahedral left and right spherical --great circles/3D tori-- on each side of the flat triangle like photon.

The the left and right 5-fold spherials are over lapping each other with our single large flatten photon in the middle.

........(...........(|)..............) < right 5-fold icosahedral spherical in bold

| = ultra-large flatten tetrahedral photon as sub-divided triangle { approximating a triangular shape } https://www.rwgrayprojects.com/synergetics/s04/figs/f6108.html

Cosmos at heat death may be bilateral as most complex creatures of Universe we know to exist are. Animals and specifically humans.

......OIO.... does not show the overlap ergo the above shows that better.

Based on the provided search results, the terms "Meta-space," "Mind," "Intellect," "Concepts," and "Ego" appear to relate to an Indian philosophical (specifically Advaita Vedanta) framework known as the

Antahkarana, which describes the four functions of the inner instrument of the mind.

Note: The term "Meta-space" is not explicitly defined in the provided snippets, but based on context, it likely refers to the "meta-awareness" or "space" of consciousness in which these mental functions operate.

Here is the breakdown of these components:

1. Mind (Manas)

  1. Definition: The sensory-motor mind that interacts with the outer world.
  2. Function: It receives inputs from the sense organs and handles thinking, doubting, imagining, and desires.
  3. Nature: It is restless, constantly fluctuating between "like" and "dislike" (Sankalpa-vikalpa).
  4. Role: It acts as the "reign of the senses," controlling them but being controlled by the intellect.

2. Intellect (Buddhi)

  1. Definition: The higher reasoning faculty responsible for logic, discernment, and decision-making.
  2. Function: It analyzes information, classifies it, and makes decisions. It is the "charioteer" that determines the direction of the chariot (the body/life).
  3. Highest Use: Prioritizing the search for the inner Self.

3. Ego (Ahamkara)

  1. Definition: The "I-maker" or the false sense of self that appropriates all functions of the body and mind to itself.
  2. Function: It creates a limited identity (e.g., "I am a parent," "I am a worker") by associating with thoughts and actions.
  3. Nature: It is considered a dangerous enemy to self-realization because it separates the individual from universal consciousness.
  4. Perspective: In Vedantic thought, it is the reflection of the true Being (Consciousness) on the nervous system.

4. Memory/Storage (Chitta)

  1. Definition: The storehouse of impressions, memories, and past experiences.
  2. Function: It provides the data that the mind uses for recognition and reaction.

Key Relationships

  1. The Chariot Metaphor: The body is the chariot, senses are the horses, the mind is the reins, the intellect is the charioteer, and the self is the owner.
  2. Duality: The ego uses the mind and intellect to create a sense of separation from the world and from the Self (Maya).
  3. Overcoming the Ego: Transcending the ego involves recognizing it as a mere instrument, rather than the true Self, and moving from "I am" (limited) to pure consciousness.

Concepts (Related Definitions)

  1. Consciousness: The underlying, alert state of awareness.
  2. Maya: The inability to distinguish between consciousness and the mind, resulting in the belief that the mind is the self.
  3. Antahkarana: The collective term for the fourfold inner instrument: Manas (Mind), Buddhi (Intellect), Ahamkara (Ego), and Chitta (Memory).
