Hmmm.
Simply because it's a functional possibility.
They change it when their popularity declines. It is hard to be consistent.
Sometimes I change my tie based on politics, if I'm arguing something that feels a bit more Left or Right.
Sometimes I change to a fancier AI created Avatar, when I'm feeling Existential, Fancy, or more Serious, I think.
Previously I tried out changing to an Avatar with Zs and closed eyes when I was sleeping,
Or an Away Sign when on Vacation or Away.
Day Night cycle could be kind of fun I suppose.
Maybe change it depending on weather, rain, sun, snow.
Could edit my Avatar based on the month or holiday.
It's all still generally based on a Prime Avatar though.

I have some of my older Avatars on a flash drive somewhere, back when I joined DDO.
I had shorter hair then, and just a mustache for a time, hm, been various changes, still, always a bit same figure throughout I think.
When I discover good enough new symbol, or draw it myself, I upload it to my avatar.
I use power of many avatars.
I would upload hentai, but this site doesn't allow porn.
I think it's more an uncertainty of how they want to be seen.

But most don’t have images of themselves which they might grow unhappy with. They use digital representation that might only be meaningful to themselves. So it reflects an internal struggle and low confidence.
