Well, as I said, why not a cat? Cats are more civilized than dogs, they don't crap all over and shower themselves licking their fur. You don't need to walk them because they're independent. And most importantly, cats don't go around barking at people, let alone biting them.

But they do 'tend to be quieter, less needy.

Though some cats are needy, wanting to be petted or played with.

Some cats scratch up furniture, drapes, and hands. Poop and pee places they're not supposed to.

Dogs can be trained too.

Dogs lick themselves too, and some cats get litter stuck to their tails in older ages.

I 'do think dogs usually require more attention and effort.

Comforting to have a deco- er I mean 'companion when hiking a trail with possible mountain lions. Or human strangers, many walk locations.

I'd imagine 'some dogs can be pretty quiet, people who carry little dogs around like purses.

Joke all you want about a dog's purpose, but until you have watched a dog in performance of saving a person's life [I have]... well, let's just say a person coming to the aid of another in danger is expected, but when a dog is sufficiently heroic, putting itself in potential danger when self-preservation is a keen survival sense, to save a person's life, your appreciation for the species grows in admiration of their devotion.

Perry: a Chow, childhood dog who was struck and killed by a car

Nestle [White Cocoa]: a cocker spaniel, our first dog as a new married couple, and who died of a stroke we both watched occur at home at 12 years of age.

Che: a Mastiff/Lab mix, our daughter's dog who we raised as a pup from her friend and grew so large, he could rest his muzzle on our kitchen counter. our daughter gave him back to her friend when we moved from CA.

Sure, dogs are loyal but only to their owners.

What about the other people? Dogs' loyalty is pure interest, they need someone to feed them after all.

As to the rest of us, dogs don't give a fk, they bite you if they feel you're a threat.

And yes, I never liked dogs. I don't hate them but I don't like them at all.

I'd imagine dogs might give some people more a sense of purpose, feel as though their dog 'really 'needs them, likes them.

Though I've seen some pretty friendly and needy cats before.

Dogs also seem to me more likely to obey commands, do tricks.

A cat, I think would be less likely to run home and get help if you broke your leg hiking.

Less likely to fetch something that you point at and say fetch or grab that.

My family had a dog, Jack, that knew how to fetch his leash when we said we were going to go for a walk.

I've seen videos before, where someone commits burglary on a house, and the guard dog is just wagging his tail friendly as the burglar talks to the dog friendly.
