You need dozens of thousands of dollars to install it for whole home fully, which is higher cost than a decade of regular electricity, and it doesnt work well in areas with shorter sunlight periods.

But a simple led light with small solar panel on it costs less than 10$, which is better because it works even when power goes out in area, and you anyway need to buy led light for regular electricity too, so solar led light actually is cost efficient because its also portable.

So why is Trump investing in a nuclear fusion company?

Solar panels just create another waste problem.

Currently hundreds of millions of them worldwide, (couldn't find a reasonably accurate figure) with an efficient lifespan of approximately 30 years.

But if universal material progress demands it, then so be it....Gotta keep recharging all those 5 billion phones and 60 million electric cars somehow....On top of everything else that demands electricity on tap.

It does not take "decades" to pay off panel install. When I bought one, I was promised a tax rebate, but their information was incorrect. My personal tax structure was set-up long ago, and did not put me in a position to have the rebate, but I did not know that at the time, or my panels would have been paid off on half the time. Also, you are still paying for regular electricity.

But also, you are talking of 2016 prices. I am talking of prices now. It takes 10000$ at least to install those for whole home, and the 50$ to 100$ lower electricity bill means only 600$ to 1200$ saved per year, so yes, it literally takes decades to pay off.

And this is even in a country which has tax breaks on those.

Yes, ONE decade. You said "decades;" multiple. and I also said the payoff was within the decade; less than the ten year period. Yes, I still pay for electricity, but at a much lower rate. My rate is about 1/4 or less than people on the ordinary grid. Yes, 216 prices. My install was $14,000, 2016 dollars. 39 panels occupying two separate roof sections facing south and west is a larger array than most buy. Tax rebates are not universal. My tax burden, in retirement, is structured such that I pay zero income taxes; one, because I took less in deduction than allowed while working just so that in retirement, I could reduce my burden, since I figured I would both earn less and pay even lesser than normal in taxes. Turned out, my burden is zero, but the tax rebate on solar panels requires I have a tax rate to draw against. I don't, therefore, no rebate. Neither me, not the solar panel company, realized that before I purchased my panels. I thought it was a blanket rebate that always applied. Turns out, however, that my net cost is still less than had I not purchased them because energy cost has risen so significantly.

So even in today's electricity prices, those solar panels in 2016 would take 10 years to pay off assuming they cover entire electricity cost. But price wasnt always 148.

And today, solar system costs 15000 up to 20000 for bigger homes, and this is with tax incentives. Without tax incentives, it costs over 30000. Battery alone costs 10000$ and doesnt last as long as solar panels, and loses effectiveness over time.

they say "it pays off over 20 years", but reality is, there are much better things to invest in, and solar system isnt going to make your electrical bill 0 because during cloudy days their effectiveness drops significantly.

From whence is that stat? That its so much more than my average energy bill per month. For 8 months of the year, my monthly bill is about $40/.mo. My estimate of 1/4 was a guess, and I was wrong; it's much better than that. My worst months, during winter, do not exceed $100/mo., and is usually a max, so my annual average isn't even close to $148. Face it, this was a good investment for me. I didn't include that even with my monthly bill as it is, I still get a rebate each year in March for the precious year in over-payments, which has been greater than $200/year for the last 10 years. Rather than take the money, I have the power company keep it to help people who can't afford their power bills. A lot of us in my area who have solar panels do that.
