Is there any subject you can think of in which your choices available amount to being limited to a binary choice

This really only applies to matter in which you do not currently have any skin in the game. Consider brushing your teeth. You've probably already chosen a favored tooth cleaning product, and it is likely dispensed from a tube. You likely have a full set if different clothes, tops, bottoms, etc, from which to choose and new choices among them are purchased occasionally, but, by and large, you are not limited to one or the other of that set, so that's settled choice as well.

But, such choices as: do you believe in god? That choice is not simply binary: yes or no. Which god? By what attributes? Is there peer pressure? Why is there a need?

Lots of choices like that which seem binary truly have multiple choices. So why do we consider one;y a binary world of choices?

Maybe internally the choice is limited to yes or no, or perhaps this or something else.


Whereas the availability of external options may be multiple.

Maybe, Information is useful for making sense of the world.


Binary is easier to categorize.

Easier to keep track of.

Make snap decisions on.


Binary 'misses a lot of the nuance though, true situations, ideal outcomes of decisions we 'could make.

I think most choices are binary. Consider the choice of whether to wear pants or not. That's a binary choice. The fact that there are different kinds of pants and also shorts and skirts doesn't mean the choice to wear pants or not isn't a binary choice. Whether you wear Levi's, wranglers, Diesel, or whatever, you're still wearing pants.
