Well at least your left wing is good at that. Ours just confiscates bank accounts if we don't like what people say.

A grifter but didn't deserve to be sniped like that. He's dead now and will become a political football. Real question is who pulled the trigger. Tranny? Schizo? Fed? Could be right or left wing as he was hated by the extremes on both sides.

While I think he was wrong about guns (honestly an issue I could stand to study more), I think it's silly that his views on gun ownership have been used to mock him. If someone says "driving cars should be legal even if they sometimes kill people" and then someone intentionally runs them over with a car, I don't see how that somehow proves the person wrong, or is even that relevant. It's a single data point, it's not enough to run a cost-benefit policy analysis. His quotes about shootings were said in the context of a gun control debate, people saying it now are just using it to mock him, which doesn't make sense because he never said shooting someone for giving their opinion is a good thing.

I doubt shooting people at speech rallies is the way to convince them to give up their guns. Just a wild thought. I could be way off base here.

So, anyone in the US can be a potential sniper thanks to the gun rights.

Do Americans really live without fear? How is that possible? To be a sniper you need special guns only used by the military. That's fkn crazy.

In June 2025, Minnesota Democrats Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot in their home, and State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were shot and wounded in their home in a "politically motivated assassination". The suspect, Vance Boelter, was charged with stalking and murder after being apprehended.

You can 'snipe' someone with any long-range rifle used for hunting. These rifles are also the least regulated even in countries with strict gun control policies because they're used for sport. You'd have to be literally insane to go around thinking about it unless you're the president or something. The last sniper killings I can recall were the DC sniper killings and those were ages ago. Most mass shooters use semi-auto rifles like the AR or AK, but even mass shooters are a tiny, tiny minority of all shooters. The vast majority of gun homicides employ handguns, as they are both semiautomatic and easily concealed, and it's also why handguns are the most restricted class of weapons outside military-grade in countries with strict gun control.

Pretty fucking sickening in all honesty. I am definetly not a lover of his for numerous reasons and I think some of his beliefs are a bit stupid, but my god to murder the guy? All he really does is debate people and converse with people. It's not like he was someone who did evil acts or committed any real horrible crimes against people. Is him having some stupid opinions really enough for him to be shot and killed? Is that really enough so that his wife is a widow and his young children don't have a father figure in their life? Absolutely sickening and even more sick that people are celebrating his death like he was Osama Bin Laden or Sadaam Hussein. It's truly a dark day when speaking solely about opinions can get you killed in this country. This also is coming at a time where conservatives already were rallying around Iryna, the Ukrainian refugee killed in Charlotte. This will serve as a pivot point for Conservatives to take action and hold office for a while.

Let's see what happens. With a school shooting in Denver and this event, what a tragic day on the eve of the worst day in American history

I said it when Trump was almost assassinated, and I’ll say it again now. Anyone who justifies this kind of senseless violence should be ashamed. I never agreed with the man, but that has no bearing on the assassination. Bottom Line:

  1. Somebody with a family and people who cared about him just died, and…
  2. He was killed because of his beliefs and for voicing his opinions.

It doesn’t matter if you agree with his opinions or not, this act was wrong.

I honestly find the celebration of an assassination far more repulsive than the murder itself.

Some people just do not deserve to be part of a normal society. It's time for them to move on and make their own sick world without the rest of us.

At this point, it’s just because Politics has become a sport, and to a lot of people, we just scored a touchdown or something.

It really stems from our social media culture of demonizing people. If Hitler got assassinated you would cheer, so people who have been conditioned to believe that people on the right are all Fascist, naturally celebrate when one dies.

If I can give you any hope in the American left, 90% of informed and intelligent people on the left I know actually condemn this attack. It’s just the idiots seem more prevalent because they talk louder and get people yelling.

That's crazy, because I see it as the opposite. Whichever side the killer belonged to just took a massive L. Combined with Iryna Zarutska (the Ukrainian immigrant woman who got stabbed) and that recent school shooting, this couldn't have come at a worse time for the party trying to convince 2026 voters that there is no legitimate crime problem Trump's national guard stuff is a response to.

The same went for Charlottesville or Dylann Roof on the right. The optics of violence rarely favor the side whose people are doing it; some people seem to have mistaken Luigi Mangione for the rule and not the exception. I doubt Charlie Kirk is even a fraction as hated as that CEO was.

Some people say the killing is political, but it's hard to tell with killers, some of them are depressed, crazy, or fame seekers.

The guy who shot Trumps ear for instance, apparently searched up locations of various politicians in 'either party.

One doesn't need a gun to kill people, there are many methods,

Myself I don't understand other people's fear of gun violence.

If an individual prays for their sins to be forgiven, and another prays for that individuals sins 'not to be forgiven. . .

You think you'll trap God in a paradox?

There's a lot of self importance, pettiness, in the idea, that anything you pray for, 'ought be granted.

With how old this universe seems to be, and the importance religious individuals lay upon the 'after, upon the 'immortality of souls. . .

In my view,

Prayer, 'is a way of being connected with God,

Of finding strength 'through him, and that connection,

Of being 'aware of reality and what is, by meditation upon it,

Of oneself, others about oneself, near and far,

What one is doing and not doing,

Of being aware of 'more, than this material world,

In our thoughts of a situation, viewing it from angles, we might find peace, or a view which escaped us before prayer,

Of spiritual discipline, and knowledge of higher value,

It's calming effect, in our connection,

In celebration,

In acknowledgement,

In that it provides support, in difficult times, as a babe might cry, in hopes of their worries and concerns being allieved, though they know not the world, or the parent's plan.

Of hope,

Of affirmation, that our 'own plans might be in Gods plan, or that by grace, by support, by 'faith in him, that we succeed.

I sometimes muse about the utility of assassination as a tool.

From what I've read, the Assassin of Shinzo Abe was 'wildly successful in their aims against Unification Church.

John Wilkes Booth's actions didn't save the Confederacy, but one could argue a mix of the Vice President being soft on Reconstruction, and the Radicals after being harsh, allowed Southern Whites to mobilize laws and society to their benefit for a time.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand's assassination, the spark of a World War,

Though maybe 'something would have sparked it eventually.

Some people claim the Allies stopped trying to kill Hitler at a certain point, as they thought his leadership was harming Germany more than Helping it in the war.

. . .

Japan had an interesting period of time 'full of political assassinations, I've heard.

. . .

Can't say assassination generally looks ideal to me,

Results often uncertain, can backfire.

. . . I suppose it would be 'most useful against someone significantly weaker than oneself,

But if they are equal or stronger, they can assassinate you equally or worse.

Dysfunctional society, lot not working.

. . . There's a reason for laws such as Weregilds or Eye for an Eye.

Has Luigi's act of assassination 'achieved anything?

Unsure if it has,

Maybe it 'would have if he or others had 'kept killing,

Maybe there was a chance the singular act would highlight and change part of society as Shinzo killer did.

But normalizing assassination, just doesn't seem ideal to me.

The mockery is disgusting. That said, there is a reasonable point here. Your analogy fails because cars are a necessity for us to function in a developed society. Guns meanwhile have no other purpose other than to kill people, that’s literally what they’re designed to do. So when someone advocates for weapons murder to be readily accessible, going so far as saying lives lost is the cost of this right, then losses their life at the hands of one, there is an irony to that.

On the left we advocate against gun proliferation specifically because we don’t want to see this happening. There’s no cognitive dissonance there, for that position it’s all a straight line.

How is that shameful?

I believe in freedom because I'm a libertarian but any country should have minimum requisites for obtaining a gun, which is somthing the US totally lacks of. Taking the example of the car as a weapon that @Savant brought up, you need a licence to drive because a car could be dangerous if it's in the wrong hands. I don't know how it is in the US but in my country to obtain a drivers licence you need to pass a psycological test. Even more so for a gun which is 100x more dangerous than a car, don't you think so?

It still stuns me how easy is to get a gun in the US. I even saw 2x1 special offers for guns as if it were a product that you can find in the supermarket. Incredible!!!

Oh, you’re absolutely right. Charlie Kirk is now a martyr, and he’s doing more in death than he ever could in life. My only point was that a lot of the people online who I’m ashamed to share a party with were celebrating because we “took down another fascist” or some shit. Granted, 90% of people on the left oppose this shooting, it’s just the idiots that treat this like a sport who cheer when someone dies. But if I have to be brought down to their level, this won’t even help their cause, it just makes them look increasingly radical the the centrists who will want to side more with the right now.
