The “Left” did not assassinate Charlie Cook, it was an inside job.

Yeah, I already acknowledged that "a handful of internet whack jobs gloated"
I was just responding to your statement that "I haven’t actually seen anyone cheering or gloating about this," but apparently you backtracked from that, so I'll drop it.

No, I didn’t backtrack from that at all, what I said was I hadn’t “actually seen it”, and that is a fact, I know it’s going to be on the internet, you can find anything you want on the internet, but to characterize the left from a few whack jobs is just plain old bigotry. I followed with a comparison statement that “There has certainly been nothing like the joyous celebrational way that Trump and his MAGA followers responded to the maniac who tried to kill Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer, there has been no jubilant reveling with mocking conspiracies about nudity and gay lovers. The MAGA insistence that the left is cheering Charlie Kirk’s death is about like Trump’s assertion that he saw Muslims in the streets of New York cheering the 911 disaster, a typical MAGA lie to create outrage at the people they hate.”

I was making a valid point, the gloating has been nothing compared to the gloating of MAGA over the assault on Pelosi, I’m sorry, but you don’t get to characterize the left as gloating over Kirks death on sparse anecdotal evidence, that is a lie, just like when Trump characterized Muslims as gloating because he lied about seeing in on 911.

the core of bigotry is to negatively characterize a group based on the actions of a few, or even an individual.
So, kind of like you did when you mentioned "the joyous celebrational way that Trump and his MAGA followers responded to the maniac who tried to kill Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer." Surely not all his followers celebrated?

No, but your glorious leader did, his son did, and a much higher percentage of the MAGA base did. That is how comparative statements work, what you cut off the sentence you quoted was "There has certainly been nothing like the joyous celebrational way.... See how that works, I acknowledged that what is happening is "certainly been nothing like" what MAGA did. What is your point, are you arguing that it's the right that gloats over a tragedy?

Trump was callous enough to exploit the deaths of 2,977 people to foster hate against Muslims with one of his bald-faced lies, I suppose that is reasonable if that's your point.

The MAGA insistence that the left is cheering Charlie Kirk’s death

They mean a lot of people on the left, not literally everyone on the left. You made the same kind of generalizations about the right, I'm not sure why you have two different standards here.

You need a reliable source if you're going to make a claim like that, not just anecdotal evidence. You're doing the same thing you were criticizing others for doing.

ABC did good, in fact. I saw a lot of news about people being fired from their jobs for mocking Kirk's assaasination in social media. This kind of things shouldn't be allowed because it's not a good example for the youth, specially when it comes from the left.

So the reasoning is that if the election had gone the other way, ? That just admits that the murder was an act of political terrorism.

No, my reasoning is that had Tyler Robinson been from a family of democrats, living in a town of mostly democrats, and consequently, had not been exposed to the echo chamber of right wing violent and divisive rhetoric, Kirk would not have been assassinated.

Much as I find Kimmel unfunny and disagree strongly with Sidewalker here, I don't like that the FCC is being weaponized to threaten a network over what a comedian said.

I think we can be significantly more certain that if Tyler Robinson himself had been a Republican, Charlie Kirk wouldn't have been assassinated. Difference is that Tyler is directly responsible for the shooting and his family isn't.

Clearly, the cultural pendulum has dramatically shifted the other way in America. Live by the sword precedes dying from it.

I oppose weaponization of the FCC regardless of which party is doing it. The damage this kind of thing causes outweighs whatever political win one side thinks they are scoring.

I really don't think I can dumb it down any further, please Google the term "comparative statement", maybe that will help you comprehend.

Nope, there is nothing anecdotal about it, I lived through it, Trump's participation empowered the MAGA base to gloat and celebrate, I saw it firsthand, and there is no comparison between that grotesque display and the posts of a few whack jobs. Fabricated stories of the attacker being Pelosi's lover were circulated by MAGA leadership like Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Donald junior, you are just talking MAGA BS.

I'm sorry, but the MAGA lie machine isn't for me.

Bullshit, that is not what you and the rest of MAGA is saying, you are not saying Tyler is responsible for the shooting, you are saying the left is.

And it is that kind of divisive vitriol that has caused political violence to explode in this country.

I saw Trump and MAGA degrade public discourse and empower divisiveness, hatred, and violence with his rhetoric, I get it, Hitler had his apologists too, but don't even try to paint this fascist movement as innocent in the growth of political violence, it just makes you look dishonest or stupid, or both.

He's weaponized the FBI, the Justice department, even the US Military, why wouldn't he weaponize the FCC too?

It's all straight out of your Project 2025 handbook, I think the section is titled "Silencing Critics", or maybe "Dispensing with the First Amendment", I can't remember.

That's what anecdotal means. Personally I saw more hatred from the left after the Kirk shooting, so in terms of anecdotes, we are at a stalemate.

No, only Tyler is responsible. But I do think he's on the left.

There's such a disturbing lack of accountability on both sides about this. You have the left trying to deny the emerging Tyler Robinson evidence and the reactions of mockery and almost glee evident in many leftists, and you have the right acting like this exact same tasteless behavior has not also been committed by Trump and his cohort.

We're just so loud when the other side crosses the line and so fucking quiet when our side does. Let the in-group get away with anything because the out-group is an existential threat, oooh. We all suck and I hate us. We're just my-side biased partisan hatenuggets and I have no hope for humanity.

I saw it differently. ABC hired comedians to entertain people on that show. I think making a speech about how MAGA essentially killed Charlie Kirk wasn't landing squarely as humor enough to justify the production costs of the show. That kind of rhetoric would be more profitable on an opinion/news show.

Edit post

He's going after the print media next, silencing critics is a primary tactic of authoritarian leaders, and of course, Trump wants to profit from it..

Now he's filed a lawsuit against the New York Times, accused the newspaper of "attempting to ruin his reputation as a businessman, sink his campaign and prejudice judges and juries against him in coverage of his campaign". Of course he wants to profit from silencing his critics, so he is suing for $15 billion in compensatory damages, as well as unspecified punitive damages (the sky is the limit).

I seriously doubt MAGA watches Kimmel, so you can't blame the loss of revenue on them. It was a product so bad nobody on any side wanted to watch it. Again, if you want people to tune into content about personal opinions, a comedy show is probably not going to make as much money as an opinion show. If people are not laughing, a comedy show is probably not going to make money. Scary opinions rarely cause laughter, but sells very well on an opinion show. Trump or MAGA as you named it has no power to stop Kimmel from being a permanent guest on the Abby Phillips show.

There was no loss of revenue, the show was very profitable for the network, taking it off the air creates a huge loss of revenue, and yes, you can blame Trump and MAGA for the loss of revenue he caused when he got Kimmel taken off the air, you are talking nonsense.

It was a product so bad nobody on any side wanted to watch it.

Nonsense, it was a very popular show.

LOL, yeah, comedians talking about current events and politics is unheard of, what were they thinking? Of course, they are still allowed to praise the glorious leader, that is the best way to comply with FCC regulations.

Trump or MAGA as you named it has no power to stop Kimmel from being a permanent guest on the Abby Phillips show.

Trump has weaponized the FCC to silence his critics, the FCC can threaten to pull the license from the network that carries this Abby Phillips persons show too, it works the exact same way.
