FCC doesn't regulate cable content, so Trump can scream all he wants if Kimmel joins CNN.
Oh pulease, you really don't know what you are talking about, in the hands of an authoritarian ruler who doesn’t give a shit about the first amendment, the FCC is a powerful weapon for silencing critics.
You are trying to split hairs to justify Trump’s authoritarianism by characterizing his authoritarianism as controlled and subordinate to regulatory conditions of federal agencies, that is nonsense, Trump has added the FCC to his weapons arsenal and can use it any way he wants. Your insistence that the FCC doesn’t regulate cable is hopelessly uninformed, first, the FCC must approve cable network mergers and acquisitions, which is always happening in that business. The FCC also has full regulatory power over the cable content we get to see, which means yes, "Trump can scream all he wants"...OR...what is more likely, as he did with Kimmel, he can simply threaten the networks existence, he can simply take CNN off the air so viewers can’t see it.
CNN doesn’t send its content directly to the viewer, they send it to the local networks and cable providers, and the local provider sends it to the viewers, The FCC regulates the local cable providers, if Trump tells them if to pull Jimmie Kimmel off the air or he will revoke their license and pull them off the air, they have no choice but to comply, and threatening to abuse power is exactly how he got both Kimmel and Colbert off the air.
You can try to justify Trumps actions all you want, but don't try to tell us not to worry because Trump can't do shit, you know damn well an authoritarian ruler can do whatever he wants, and in the wrong hands, a weaponized FCC gives the ruler complete power to decide what content the cable network gets to broadcast.
You can pretend to justify it all you want, we both know that Trump is taking control of the media and eliminating free speech, your comical lies about regulatory guard rails are just a distraction, Trump will do what he wants.
