thats a good one. I used to think cigarettes should be banned and that they just cause harm. But I am a smoker now, so I know better.

I read that nicotine is a brain stimulant, so I decided to become smoker. I need my brain well stimulated, and living a healthy life eating vegetables doesnt achieve that.

Also, my parents made me a second hand smoker for my whole life by constantly smoking in same room with me even when I was baby.

the only difference now is that I inhale smoke directly from cigarette.

As the Trump era coms to a close, people will find politics boring. Was anyone on this site also on DDO in 2014? It must have been very dull back then.

DDO was far more active and political discussion was better than what we’ve had here.

A big reason for that is that back then political debate was far more intelligent. In those days, we used to argue about things like top marginal tax rates and philosophical approaches to healthcare. Now we argue over whether the 2020 election was stolen, whether it is acceptable for a president of the United States to be shitposting at 2am on social media, or whether a Fox News weekend host is a good choice to be Secretary of Defense.

We’re so far down the rabbit hole by this point that intellectual conversation isn’t really possible. Perhaps once Trump is gone and the shield all these political figures are hiding behind is no longer a factor, maybe then we can get back to something resembling intellectual discussion.

Yes, high thought resulted in Pseudo-Communist Marxist Russia and other similar mid 20th century examples...And I have been taking part in discussion sites like this for quite a few years now, and in my opinion the format is still very much the same as it always has been...There are always members like you and I and everyone else, with varying levels of ability and expectation.
