To oversimplify it, thats generally what happens. Democrats think things should be done by the government to help people but they cant agree to what and when they do agree its often dysfunctional. Republicans dont think anything in particular should be done to help people they become the party of saying no to things then if anything they want to tear the whole thing down then they become the party of dysfunction from another angle

Yes. and that is self-defeating warfare, because if the US is supposed to be anything, since it is 1/2 the name of the country, is "united," and the depth of understanding that among many Democrats, and even some Republicans is sun-setting.
