Destroying Christian in a Debate "Did women have more rights in Sparta, Rome and Egypt, or in Christianity"

I have been spending time basically obliterating modern day debate with modal logic, definition arguments, undisprovable assumptions counter argument...


It is funny watching people try to argue against claim which is true by definition. It is like watching people try to disprove math.


But I decided I should make things more difficult for me, and argue for observable facts instead.


But then, it was like Zeus himself willed it, a Christian came and said that Christianity gave women their rights.


First I spent about 30 seconds laughing at the absurd claim, then I moved quickly to obliterate it.


First I posted this image:



Yes, for those who dont know, nuns in Christianity for 2000 years were used as "prostitutes".


But to make matters worse for my Christian opponent, his lack of ancient world knowledge made him ultimately unprepared for what came next.


In Sparta, In Rome, and in Ancient Egypt, women had both property rights and rights to divorce, and rights of religious freedom.


In Sparta, woman had as much property as a man. She would inherit equal amount of land as man. She had same education as man. She had complete divorce rights, she could divorce any time she wished. She could change religion.


In Ancient Egypt, women had even more rights than in Sparta.


In Rome, women could also easily divorce and had property rights.


And then came Christianity...


Christianity banned women from having any significant property. In fact, women themselves became property in Christianity. Christianity banned divorce for women. Women could not divorce their husbands, and husbands could legally rape them. If women tried to change religion, they were burned as witches.


So all rights which women enjoyed in Sparta, Rome, and Ancient Egypt, Christians completely eradicated. For next 2000 years, women had less rights in Christianity than they did in Sparta, Rome, ancient Egypt.


Ancient polytheism truly placed high value on women, where Christianity reduced women to property of husband for next 2000 years.


So when someone says Christianity gave women their rights, I can only laugh at that. In fact, women in Ancient Egypt had more rights than women in many Christian countries today.

Yes, studies by Pew Research Centerand others have shown that the vast majority of the world's population identifies with a religion, with percentages often cited around 75% to over 80% in recent years. The global religiously unaffiliated population is the third-largest group, but its share of the world's total population has only slightly increased.

I'm confused. You proferred a sensationalist clickbait-y YouTube video as evidence, even though literate nuns who wrote surviving literature (e.g. Hildegard of Bingen) mention nothing about having supposedly experienced this?

Well 80 percent of the population is stupid.


If true intelligence involves the ability to view and understanding widely different things from multiple different perspectives, an aptitude for grasping a wide range of truths, relationships, and meanings, and the capacity for abstract and symbolic thought, then it follows logically that the contention that one can reduce reality to only one of its modes, to know it in only one of its forms, is an unintelligent claim.


Science does not contend that reality can be reduced to a single ontological level, on the contrary, science asserts that reality is in fact, multileveled, it asserts that the four dimensions of existence that we call reality, are contingent and relative to a greater reality of more dimensions, of which we cannot have certain knowledge, and which can only be expressed metaphorically.
