Over 100 verses preaching the importance of payer;

“the parents believe healing comes from God and that they never expected their daughter to die as they prayed for her and summoned others to do the same”. A central Wisconsin couple who prayed rather than seeking medical care for their 11-year-old dying daughter were sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years probation in the girl's death. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/oct/07/couple-sentenced-daughter-prayer-death

December 14 2019.

Church attempts resurrection of a dead two year old child, through Prayer

“We have a precedent” said Pastor Bill, “Jesus raised the dead”.

He said “there was no time limit on how much longer the prayers and singing would continue, but added that the child remained at the county coroner's office”.

Interesting that Jesus also commanded any one that followed him to:

“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give”. Matthew 10:7-8 .

They appear to have done everything by the book too:

“'Since that night, and at the continued request of the Heiligenthal family, Bethel Church has hosted prayer and worship gatherings which consist of singing and prayer,' the church said in a statement”.

Interesting it is that the bible informs its adherents to continue praying! And to “never give up”. Luke 18.

The baby’s funeral was eventually held December22.

What happened here ? “Ye of little faith” or the wrong faith?

It appears that the only thing “raised” during this whole sad sorry saga was $62,000 (“unforeseen expenses”) via a GoFundMe page. I can hear Pastor Bill sermonising Acts 2:45 as I write.

Members of the Followers of Christ Church whose members rely on prayer and had prayed for their sick newborn baby instead of taking her to the hospital are charged with murder. “The infant died just hours after she was born”. This couple was expecting twins, one had already died at birth and they prayed to god and Jesus that the other would survive. It didn’t.

“Dale and Shannon HIckman, were convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison for the death of their newborn infant.”

In all of three cases (and many more) every single religious grieving parent was denied what they asked for in their payers.

WTF happened!!?

Was it because these grieving faithful parents “babbled far too much” ?Matthew 6:7

My prayers always work.

Christian prayers dont work because Christians pray only for Earthly stuff, and Jesus already said Earth is ruled by evil one. So Christians are praying to the evil one, not Jesus.

It is as Jesus said, first pray for kingdom of heaven, and then pray for Earthly stuff.

They allowed Kara to die because they got themselves too caught up in the misguided belief that they were being tested by God," the prosecutor said.

The human test is seeking medical help for their sick child. They failed to do so and instead relied on prayer. Their prayer failed for the same reason. They did not seek medical help first.

"Render unto Caesar

the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's" is a famous statement by Jesus (Matthew 22:21) advising that people should fulfill their civic duties (taxes, laws) to the state ("Caesar") while giving their spiritual devotion, lives, and ultimate allegiance to God.

Praying to Jesus as per bible message, is hardly praying asking for things earthly. but to have god spare your innocent Child.

Here is how people should pray according to Jesus.

Jesus taught his disciples to pray by

providing the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6, Luke 11), emphasizing intimate communication with God as a loving Father rather than empty repetition. The model prayer focuses on honoring God, seeking His will, daily provision, forgiveness, and protection, encouraging persistent and faithful prayer.

MacGregor EMC +4

Key Aspects of How Jesus Teaches to Pray:

  1. The Model Prayer (The Lord's Prayer): "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one".

Again you are wrong.

John the Baptist did not create the Lord’s Prayer

, although it is widely accepted that his teaching on prayer influenced Jesus. The Bible depicts Jesus teaching this prayer to his disciples in response to their request to learn how to pray as John taught his followers.

While John's ministry influenced Jesus, scholars generally agree that Jesus himself composed the specific prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4, tailoring it to his ministry.

where are you getting your faulty information on the Bible. You cannot even accept Jesus was at his last supper with his disciples the day which took place before his crucifixion. And here you cannot even accept Jesus composed the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4.

Your lack of education explains your poor reading and comprehension skills, but getting important facts in the Bible wrong suggests a more serious problem like a missing kidney.

Mental illness, particularly depression and anxiety, is a common and often underrecognized consequence of kidney disease, which may necessitate kidney removal (nephrectomy). The removal of a kidney itself, often done for cancer, can lead to fear, anxiety, and in some cases, symptoms of trauma, especially if it leads to chronic pain or if the donor experiences guilt or grief.

I didn't say John the Baptist created the prayer . But we do know is that before Jesus came on the scene John was saying this prayer and teaching it to his own multitude of disciples.

Funny isn't it, that John the Baptist still had his own MASSIVE!, following even after Jesus showed up to claimed the reigns.

Bottom line is, praying won't raise the dead nor cure the incurable.

But I suppose that praying makes some people feel good, thereby producing positive and beneficial electrochemical brain activity.

And other people find beneficial positivity in other things...Examples are, music, extreme sports, convening with nature, hedonism.

You absolute clown!

These poor desperate parents had asked for the life of their babies. Their only motive was LIFE! Jesus said : "I am the resurrection and the life"

They hadn't asked for the mortgage to be paid off. They sought help and didn't find it. They knocked on god’s door and it didn’t open,he ignored them all and remained as silent as the graves that their children were buried in.

John14:13-14 "Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it".

What a complete and utter cruel thing to promise?

Morning Serge.

Not in the case of these poor desperate parents. They were charged with murder and still had to watch their child be lowered into the ground, on top of it all.

Dale and Shannon HIckman, were convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison for the death of their newborn infant.”

The child went to heaven. But it was the human criminal Justice system that arrested her parents. Don’t blame Jesus for the actions of humans.

SO, we have a qualified man of god, a Pastor no less, reminding us of the precedent set by Jesus himself.

Take the case of Pastor Bill and his attempt to raise the child from the dead through faith and prayer. Why wasn't his and the prayers of all of his congregation able to raise the child back to life? Especially in the light of Jesus clearly tells us :

"Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it".John14:13-14

And the bible clearly informs its adherents to continue praying! And to “never give up”. Luke 18.

Why would it tell us that if prayer is as pointless as it has been shown to be in all those cases?

I found it interesting too that the only thing that this Pastor and his church managed to "raise" was the $63,000 that came on the backs of these unfortunate dead children and their grieving parents.

It is clearly evident the pastor did not have the gift of healing. He had other gifts like raising money. The two should not be confused.

Not sure what the issue is here for you. It's not like you hold to the Bible literally anyway. Except when it suits you. I suppose it may be - and probably it is not - that you think religion is a palace for fools, and it is your job to prove them that they are fools.

The way many Christians understand prayers is that God always answers - but sometimes he says, yes, sometimes he says no, and sometimes he says, not yet. And no, I don't have a biblical verse to support any of that.

Praying to God simply means dependence upon God for something we can't ordinarily do.

There are many examples of people praying to God, asking him to heal their child, indeed, asking God to bring them back to life from the dead. Personally, I think we should ask big prayers. But I am not sure that I would expect every big prayer to be answered with a yes right now.

It's quite sad, in my view, to hear about the scenarios you presented in your OP. I'm not quite sure that these are big prayers as opposed to absurd prayers. And I think the two are not the same. I certainly don't think the negative answer was due to babbling, but then again, I didn't hear their prayers. It may well have been to false teaching, or ignorance or a combination of the two - or something else completely.

One might opine, as I do, that the command Jesus gave in Matthew 10:7-8 was a command to the 12 for a specific purpose. But if you think it is a general command, that's fine for you, I suppose. I wouldn't be using that text as a general command.

Sadly, in Christianity, as in other fields of life, ignorance exists, and so do the money-hungry and power freaks.

Parents should always seek prompt medical help for a very sick child while also praying if it aligns with their faith. Medical treatment handles the physical illness, while prayer can provide spiritual support and comfort. Relying only on prayer for treatable illnesses is considered dangerous and irresponsible.

That’s what the courts determined. The actions of the parents by not seeking medical help was considered dangerous and irresponsible.

"In testimony at the trial and videotaped interviews with police, the parents said they believe healing comes from God and that they never expected their daughter to die as they prayed for her and summoned others to do the same. A friend who was at the family's rural Weston home called the ambulance after Kara stopped breathing."

"I am guilty of trusting my Lord's wisdom completely ... Guilty of asking for heavenly intervention. Guilty of following Jesus Christ when the whole world does not understand. Guilty of obeying my God,"

"We live by faith," he said after the sentencing. "We are completely content with what the Lord has allowed to come down, but he is not done yet."

Yes, I guess that makes sense. After all, if you'd provided a reason, then I would have known what the issue is and since you didn't, I guess intentionally, it makes sense that I wouldn't know. Is it possible that you might provide the reason?

It may well have been to false teaching, or ignorance or a combination of the two - or something else completely.

I think you're onto something. Some prayers don't work. I reckon every religious person in the world would agree with that position. Of course, many prayers are answered. I also think that perhaps - your position that prayers don't work is actually quite helpful. Prayers are just words of requests for someone else to do something. So, in a very real sense, they don't do anything but act as a conduit. I reckon it probably has something to do with the listener. For every prayer, there must be a communicator, there must be information or a request, and there must be a receiver.

Some religions would take the view that only those of a particular view are able to communicate this communication. Hence, others might not be received. Some might say - that the receiver needs to be a particular deity or gods; otherwise, the information is just noise. Yes, I think you are onto something. In your case, if you're not religious, that probably explains why your prayers don't work.

I sincerely hope such people are just that ignorant, but it seems so vain to eschew medicine for your child in selfish pursuit of a hallelujah.
