Sure there are people with childish conceptions of god and jesus so what do atheists do? They hold god up to those childish conceptions. instead of the mature approach of asking if god is or could be real what would he be like? Basically they strawman god instead of steelmaning god

The term "atheist" describes a person that has a conditioned tendency to be sceptical of indeterminate solutions, as opposed to the theist who is conditioned to not consider alternatives with any reasonable amount of mental effort...Wherein, I would suggest that the term sceptical theist would be something of an irreconcilable contradiction.
Nonetheless, the GOD principle is an undeniable force relative to the nature of events and their duration...Whereas god the Abrahamic magic bloke was a fanciful hypothesis constructed not so very long ago...Which isn't to say that magic bloke/blokes/women haven't long since been naively fanciful solutions to the fundamental question of material creation and existence...Though if I were to draw a timeline a metre long representing universal creation and duration, then thinking ape and it's associated man-gods would occur simultaneously somewhere inside the final millimetre of said timeline.

2 thousand years later Jesus is still seen as God. All the modern scientific discovery has not changed that trajectory.

But shortly after his resurrection he was united with God.
