I didnt really take AI danger seriously until I read this.

So AI generated an entirely false report which almost led to international incident and possibly even war, by fabricating data of Chinese ship transporting nuclear weapons.

This specific scenario seems like more of a case of "the AI was dumb" than a case of "the AI was working toward a specific goal and wanted to kill humanity." If anything though, I think it is further evidence that there are plenty of avenues for ASI to harm humanity, if harming humanity ever helps it achieve some particular goal.

How come the same alarm bells were not sounding when America got into nuclear weapons? Why is the world trusting America with anything to do with real or artificial intelligence?

I am more worried about AI reaching point of singularity.
"Technological Singularity: A hypothetical future event where artificial intelligence surpasses human cognitive capability, enters a loop of self-improvement, and accelerates technological growth beyond human control or comprehension."

Yes, that's the point I've been trying to make when I talk about ASI being an existential threat to humanity. Basically AGI (AI that can do anything a human can do, including program) could become superintelligent within a matter of hours.

AI...Alternative or Another but not artificial...If it exists and performs then it's not artificial and neither artificially intelligent...Furthermore, it has been developed specifically as a more efficient system of data management, and will undoubtedly possess more potential in terms of Universal expansion...So viewing such as a threat to humanity is somewhat counterintuitive to the objective, and such a point of view might conversely be regarded as a threat to progress...So I would suggest that in the best interests of human frailty that we will eventually have to become subservient to AI's needs.

Whether or not in the meantime AI identifies as either Chinese or America will become irrelevant once the universal matrix is established...But hey, a while to go yet.

This is exhibit a on why blindly trusting AI is a very bad idea - especially in military contexts.

The difference between China and America in their AI use. China uses AI to improve the future of the country whereas America uses AI to learn from the mistakes of the past.
