ChatGPT and AI is just word predicting program. Thats all it is. People who think its sentient think so because AI repeats human conversations. So yes, AI sounds like human because it actually just repeats what some humans have said. Its based on plenty of human text, and then it repeats from human text what is most appropriate to repeat. So yes, when you talk to AI, you are actually talking to human in a sense that it repeats what humans said in given scenario.

However, ChatGPT 5 is said to change everything. I am not so sure about that, because I find local models somewhat better than ChatGPT. ChatGPT must be instructed every time I use it, and also is censored much more. So what is exactly going to change other than less false claims by ChatGPT?

I dont think false claims by AI can be solved other than manually removing all false claims from text it uses, and since AI uses internet, that is impossible.

Local models and AI notebooks can act according to scientific literature, but AI using internet will have a hard time telling what is true on internet, even if you limit it to only most correct sites. There is a point where some answers only exist on sites of very questionable accuracy, such as Quora, and AI in the past has quoted Quora as fact without knowing it is just random people giving answers. Same with reddit. Basically, unless you ban AI from using these sites, AI wont stop hallucinating because these sites are full of contradictive answers and many answers are retarded.

I wonder how well a society of babies, unexposed to outside advanced humans, would progress.

I'd imagine they'd be pretty stunted mentally, primitive, maybe more maybe less violent.

But we're hardwired for higher development, of tech, society, language.

More than other Earth animals.

. . . Still take a few generations, before our society advances maybe,

And maybe there's setbacks, as previous generations might imprint maladaptive behaviors/traditions.

My thought though,

Is humans would be somewhat primitive ourselves, without repeating what some other humans have said.

Though I think current AI is still ‘less, still not hard ’or softwired all that well.

So were lead pipes in Rome, or whenever they were invented.

. . . Not that I 'know AI to be a negative outcome, but I can't 'guess the outcome.

I've not an inkling of it's effects or all the various other techs that may soon be.

Yay, now I can use ChatGPT model 4.0 for free instead of getting 4.0 mini or 3.5 (whatever it is)

I hope there is free version of chatgpt 5. I want to see if it is significant improvement. Although my Jan AI local model outperforms free chatgpt in some areas.

I agree. Same is case for humanity's future. Its all a guessing game in long run.

And what exactly is long run vs short run in regards to humanity and/or AI?

I suppose short term is the Dust Bowl, Mao's Sparrows, Leaded Gas, Agent Orange.

Effects within a few generations.

I doubt AI's going to be that bad in the short term. . . Except we maybe keep developing technology faster and faster.

Long term. . . Don't know 1000, 2000 years?

At times I worry just how 'alien humans might end up, to what I am used to.

. . . 'Maybe not a bad thing, but one is used to dystopian Sci Fi sometimes.

Yeah, change came slower in past olden days, relative to post industrial, digital etc age.

Unless a meteor was to hit the earth, or if the Boreal forests were to catch on fire, or a few nukes start getting dropped, or other Ive not thinking of off hand.

Oh the good ole days, when men were all men were true men were John Wayne, and women stayed in the kitchen, and food came from out barnyard or the local environment beyond the barnyard.

Where have the good ole times gone, long time passing, a long long time ago. When there was no penicillin, no oxygen masks, no radio, or telephone etc.

(Grin)

A lot of locations and times in history weren't 'so great.

. . . But there's something comfortable about regularity. Tradition, what one is used to.

Morality and Ethics are often based off the norms of society.

Sure one can argue tradition isn't always good, and I agree. . . People have a lot of different values, pulling in different directions, contradicting one another. Ends we want to work toward. Don't always just want what we now have.

But,

You imply 'maybe, a continual increase in good resulting from technology,

Imply I think that we can 'expect such in the future.

Seems an assumption.

Course we don't 'have to end up in a dystopian future I suppose. Tool results depends on 'how we use the tool.

And I'm not saying we ought 'not keep researching and developing technology,

Just some periods of life cycles of organisms development, not always the most pleasant.

Fermi Paradox includes a number of unpleasant ends due to technology, I imagine.
