Farmers save countless lives and enable entire economy as everything else depends on them. Do farmers get celebrated as heroes for that? No. We mostly struggle to make a living and the bad farmers actually profit more than good farmers who try to make their food as healthy as possible. Farming is generally easy but such a dirty job, and once you are done working, you also have to sell what you produce, and you compete with stores which give cheap prices, imported food and stores which use "losing profit on some items to gain customers" strategy, which means they are selling some items below a price which any farmer could compete with. This is especially so in eggs, which are usually 2x cheaper in stores than eggs I sell, because stores dont need to make profit on every product as they have thousands of products, and losing money on few products actually pays off when it gives more customers.
Trump’s tariffs will fix all that.
Today, Trump signed an executive order extending the deadline for higher tariffs on China until 9 November.
That is Trumps taco approach.

The point wasn't that they were producing food, it was that they were near other people and hence risking infection. People praised nurses too, it's not because they thought food comes from the hospital.

If there are bad farmers, it might explain why farmers aren't universally praised. Individually praised, sure, but it would be like praising all politicians because some of them save lives.
People can choose a profession these days...No one forces a farmer to be a farmer...Though circumstances might dictate choice relative to expectation.
But I'm guessing that most farmers are content with their profession and would prefer not to work in Walmart.
And like a lot of people, some farmers like to think that they are special, and expect others to think that farmers are special.
I don't think that they are special...I think that they are just folk who earn a living from farming...But give them a medal if you like...But not a cheap Chinese one.

Farm workers were considered "essential workers" during the pandemic...I remember Nurses and first responders getting a lot of praise, don't recall grocery store employees being praised.
