Is A.I. self-conscious or utterly lifeless?

Your "there exist limits" is the same kind of thinking that gave us geocentrism, which turned out to nothing but egocentrism.

Careful what you limit. You are not in charge. And A.I. will still be just artificial until it shakes off the coil of "artificial" and becomes self-aware. I'm not saying that cannot happen. I'm saying until it does, it remains artificial. Geocentrism had to do the same thing, only in it's case, it took itself out of it's miserable ego.

AI is moving toward super-intelligence and already far beyond humans in various endeavors in various science fields ex biology. And biology is most complex systems that exist.

I dunno of my setting any limits except on my own abilities over the years. I dont try and pull freight trains like various strong men have done over many years.

Where I do take some lead in my comments is saying that all pushing outward phenomena of Universe are a resultant of pulling inward phenomena. Ive been asking for others for years to give me an example where that does not hold true.

.....In olden days we would see strong man pulling a box car of a train with his hands, then another would do it with his teeth using mouth guard biting down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psLLJYA_JKs&t=5s

In most if not all cases, we see strong men pulling, not pushing, because it is easier --more effective and efficient-- to pull than to push. https://www.quora.com/Is-it-more-efficient-for-a-locomotive-to-push-or-pull-a-train#:~:text=While%20in%20the%20strict%20energy%20transfer%20equation%2C,the%20track%20without%20derailing%20the%20rake.%202.

Hmmmmmm

I sense desperation Faux.

So if you were conditioned to believe the old semi-desert creation and existence hypotheses, and consequently read a lot of much later biased texts on the subject, then you will obviously have a head full of flawed data rather than unequivocal knowledge, and certainly a closed mind.

I would suggest that open mindedness is what easily challenged/challenges millennia of social conditioning and flawed information, and renders you done.

Have a nice day.

At its root, A.I. begins as electronic circuitry and a package around it. A man-conceived and man-made device. Lifeless. Just another tool. And with no other man-conceived input, it is dumb as a post. It cannot develops learning on its own. Granted, we, ourselves, do little better as infants/children. However, "wild-child" histories tell us even they begin to learn things completely on their own. An unprogrammed A.I. cannot do even that. End of story.

End of story.

Faux, the above comment could mean, do not post any more replies to you in this thread, or it could mean, there is nothing more to be said, since you started this AI thread of ..utterly lifeless.. which is true and is not not true, in that biologic humans have been breathing binary, silicon based life {?} into AI since digital age came to fruition.

AI is still very young yet AI does more with LLM than any newborn biologic baby does in that respect of LLM's.

There will always exist people who will have less respect of new technologies, yet, that rarely stops those technologies from becoming parts of everyday human experiences as a way of everyday life. The AI story is just beginning not ending.

God was willing to only show his behind to Moses.

Exodus 33:23 God agrees to show Himself to Moses, but with a crucial limitation: Moses can only see His back, not His face.

"End of story" is relative to the biologic-based life of A.I. - it does not have it, and never did. To date, I see no evidence of biology in A.I.; therefore, void of life.

LLM - care to define your acronym; the acronym alone could be any numbers of things. let's define our terms, ok?

Exodux is limited, at least in Engliosh, but we have a myriad of biblical translations. into modern languages. The Quran is not sax limiting, and neither are the Pyramid Texts of ancient Egypt, nor the Book of Abraham of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and there may be other sources more fulfilling in description.

I asked ChatGPT, and it told me it has no mind at all, no consciousness, sensation, desire, belief, etc. I'm going to take its word for it.

Large Language Model{? LLM } is what AI is best at --an far beyond any biologic newborn or even 10 year olds--- via that LLM has made extra-ordinary advances in various sciences.

--> AI thread of ..utterly lifeless.. which is true and is not not true, in that biologic humans have been breathing/manipulating binary, silicon based life {?} into AI since digital age came to fruition. So at least since digital age began. And I think before. AI expanding its data of info far beyond the infant or newborns you mentioned in earlier message.

Yes, human baby is still more complex in many other ways, just not with language and data harvesting, assimilation and pattern finding

To deny AI's abilities would be a mistake. I know you give some minimal recognition of those abilities, but not nearly as much as those in the know do.

Who was it. The Luddites that were very anti{?}-technology but that was because of jobs lost and that is same fear of AI, or least one of them of AI. Industrial age certainly has done damage to Earth eco-systems, that sustain us all.

Will AI aid humanity in its longer term survival on Earth? I dunno. Maybe it be the terminator and cause nuclear apocalypse. No one knows the future.

AZSa I said, an infant of 5-7 months can recognize the pattern of a cubist [such as Picasso] representation of a human face, and AI's attempt fails.

The Jews spent 40 years travelling with Moses. The books written by Moses is the foundation of Judaism and Christianity.

Faux, thanks for clarity on those comments. I didnt go back to find them specifically.

Still we both agree that AI is far ahead of 5 - 7 month old infant in using Large Language set of data to make extraordinary advances is various sciences. Ive posted one or more of those advances at form DArt if not this recent one.

One is the titled ' The Most Useful Thing AI has Ever Done .
