His best two books on the subject are "The Biology of Transcendence" and "Evolution's End". If you haven't read him, I guarantee you will love his books. You probably should start with "The Crack in the Cosmic Egg", in my opinion all of his books sprout from that initial groundbreaking work.

His theories connected neuroscience to experience and growth, particularly understanding how the myelination process develops our mental reality, and establishes the different stages of brain development you referred to above. Pearce was a lot like Buckminster Fuller in being a polymath that was able to gain insight by bringing together wide-ranging subjects into an explanatory synthesis. He effectively investigated brain development and its connection with wisdom, spirituality and the development of a "heart-brain" connection, which he showed was essential for true human intelligence and "transcendence".

I think I did attempt to read it when I was younger man, was probably to deep of psychological dive for me.

What comes to mind, from your comments, is around that time of one book{ Doors of Perception } I did read, the other probably just skimmed

1} doors of perception, becuase Huxley put into words my exotic ventures into head space around that time. I was so amazed at that writing ability,

2} some book by Timothy Leary who attempted to explain how various substances affected the brain at various levels. Molecular, genetic, atomic etc. I really forget any specifics. I was not the brighest person around for sure, but if he was saying atomic level, I think I as questioning that.

It may have been genetic level and if it was that, I was quesionting that. However, we did find some 10 or so years ago, that some shrooms to cause the growth of nerve cells in the brain. I was like WOW! Ive seen that in news again here recently tho forget exactly in what regards.
