not claiming my character cus I think the anti claim mechanics apply.

Wait, what?

Your casual attitude about this seems to have changed rather quickly -_-

Alright, well I suppose I'll give credit for that, since you only asked after you claimed... I'll come back around to this once I've finished reading the DP.

????

I said claim your role and not your character. If there is anti claim shit. It would only make sense from a character perspective unless mafia have roles that actively counter ours. Been saying this

I should have finished reading the DP before I said anything. I was struck by the idea that you had been dismissive of the anti claim issue but then said you wouldn't claim while asking me to, but then you actually claimed anyway. So ignore all of that.

Also, the same issue applies that I don't understand this mechanic. I haven't encountered it ever. What type of mechanic could exist that makes it problematic for me to claim? Even more so, what could the possible issue be with character claiming?

I can't analyze the cost-benefit of this mechanic without knowing an example of it, especially an example that somehow makes a character claim more risky than a role claim - a reality I've certainly never encountered before since, at least from my cave man lawyer perspective, characters are far less valuable. I'm not doubting the validity of this, I'm just not familiar with it, and would love an example of how this would function - if not a likely example of how it would work in this game - then at least some far flung example of some mechanic that makes character claiming a problem.

To be clear, I understand some counter claim mechanics could exist, but it's this issue with anti character claiming issue that has me thrown a bit. I guess I'm just not sure what that would like like in practice.

Anyways, my lack of a firm grasp of the potential mechanics of pros/cons/dangers of claiming and the potential risks thereof beyond the scope of providing scum with too much information notwithstanding.... I have minimal confident reads. Anything I have on Mikal, Luna and Thoth are going to mostly be related to mod psych stuff that I hate to cite.

Beyond that, I have minimal read on Awesome and Unsaid given no history with them.

I am null atm on Pie and WF, though I am going to go back and specifically focus more on their posts in a bit.

I get town vibes from WF, especially with him pointing out important game aspects and urging caution - advice I suppose that I ironically ignored

Wow, this Cryptography thing is crazy... I'm just gona ignore all of that since it's obviously intrinsically game breaking and should be against the rules by default - but I'll ignore that and just pretend I don't see any of it I guess

Me and thoth had some light trolling in ROT-13 which is easily decryptable for proof. We didn't actually do anything that would effect the game. I made a joke about you being scum and he said "acknowledged" and that was the extent of it lol

also unvote, you are probably 99% town.

Gotcha. 100% town, but fair enough.

Max is the type of person that will also be busy. Was out with his gf till he posted and will be gone for spurts. So people scum reading him on activity is kinda retarted. Would rather lock him into something that outs him as scum or helps his case as town

kinda happy I did because it narrows down the scum pool

pie said he’s affil confirmable. Very few roles do that and I thought he was softing mason. So he’s kinda fucked now if he’s lying. Innocent child, and messenger are really the only other things that do that and he can’t claim either messenger, mason, etc

if pie is scum he is now fucked

nothing is hard confirmed but we have a few very strong pool to go on now

me

you

max

Thoth

(pie for now)

leaves me to want to focus on wf or anon because of their response thus far but want to hear from inactives

I don’t know how to read awesome or unsaid. Not having a win con seems really weird but I also would think that you would know if you were scum because of discord invites, etc. could be a 3p scenario but don’t think so.

I'm tired as shit and a third of the way through reading the DP. I got up at five AM so I'm going to bed soon. Can this site have one normal DP1? I skipped to the last page and I have no fucking idea what is going on. I will try and sort this shit out tomorrow.

Like Mikal has claimed a bulletproof popular caroler? Has the popular been tested? And apparently there was another modslip? A double one? That's what Mikal seems to be saying on the bottom of page eight.

I'm noticing no one's given you a straight answer to these questions. The answer is, it depends on the nature of the anti-claim mechanic. The most recent example (and I think the one most of us are considering when it comes to this game) came from the Deltarune game run by Casey.

https://www.debatecraft.com/mafia/c/endgames/posts/r/deltarune-mafia-endgame

This is how the mechanic was described in the endgame:

Anticlaim - Once per night, you may name any player and a role. If the named player has the named role, they will be unable to be protected from the NK by any protective roles. This may NOT be used on a player on whom you have successfully used Role Cop, unless that player has publicly claimed their role. If using Anticlaim on a player you have Role Copped, you must cite the post where they claimed their role. You will be told if your Anticlaim attempt was successful or not. Once you have used Anticlaim on a player successfully, you may not use it on that player again.

So the concern is that by revealing both your character and role, you've made yourself vulnerable to similar anti-claim mechanics. It's not so much that claiming either your role or character individually might be a problem, it's that claiming both opens you up to scum using this against you, and I wouldn't be surprised if the mechanic is similar in this game.

Pretty hard to figure out, I think mechanically Luna is probably town but I’m like 80%. I guess Thoth is like 65% town imo but this game is a bit of a nightmare

Yes. David basically confirmed the PM language and no we have not tested it but open if we want to. It does deactivate at mylo which is prob to counter the no killable aspect. I will say it doesn’t say BP. It says I’m immune to all killing actions at night but they stop me from singing.

We haven't gotten around to testing it, though I think we should at some point. In fact:

It is odd that we haven't done this yet. Let's test that Popular role.

wow, hey thanks. It's really nice that you provided a literal description of what I've been asking for. I didn't realize there was an actual concept like this, I figured it was a bit more vague, but nice to know this exists - even if its not exactly what is referred to in the OP. Anyways, that's helpful, pretty sure I wont have to worry about a use of this since I neither need to be protected nor NKd (at this point at least), be a waste of any such a scum mechanic.

just an FYI on this for further thought, but post 76 includes a vote count on Mikal "1/6"... do "popular" vote counts typically increase the number in the tabulation? "1/7" for example, I think I may have seen that before but I might be mistaken... We may already know the answer to this test

I've never seen mods confirm a Popular player like that. They keep the vote count identical to the others and simply have the player survive reaching the point where they should be lynched (in this case, 6/6) when they reach that vote count. David should post that once we've reached it, and that will serve as confirmation.

Fair enough, I could see that being a broken way to tabulate too, for that reason.

I'll throw up my vote then, Mikal should coordinate the remainder (I think 2 more) to avoid any accidents
