Will you character claim?

I will be able to post more this afternoon/evening, so I’ll try to participate more then.

It’s weird to be parsing responses to my own TP claim to see whether they’re scummy or not. For the record, I think scum had good reason to take either side on my lynch. They knew they weren’t saving me, so it was a matter of which side they believed might look more innocuous.

As for this DP, I’m with Vader in focusing on more inactive players. I’ll say now that I can’t figure the theme split out, especially given my character. I’ll avoid claiming for now, but I’ll say that my character would have been an appropriate target for my Day Vig.

Worst case scenario it’s 7-3 right now and my reads right now:

Town:

Pie - Everyone likes Pie

Max - Claimed Miller with a Cop flip. Only way he’s scum is if it’s a fake claim, but that’s unlikely imo

Lean Town:

Mikal - He’s said a couple of things that lead me to believe that he’s town behaviorally. If he’s scum, I’ll eventually find out unless he kills me.

Kohai - Same with Kohai. He feels identical to his townplay from previous games just based on how and where his mind is going + things he’s said.

Tilt Town:

Thoth - He has some information that that exonerates Mikal. Can’t tell if he’s buddying Mikal or if it’s true, but I’m fine with him for now. I’m curious what this type of role is though.

Null:

Vader - Gun to my head, vibes I feel like Supa is town just based on what he’s said, but it’s not enough to form a full read

WF (Ultra) - I always have a hard time reading WF behaviorally. Ultra didn’t do much DP1 either.

Wylted - I agree with Mikal in the sense that Poisoner + Healer doesn’t make sense based on what I’ve read for Milich. However I’m torn as to the motive for saying he visited Shining. Also if Tir exists, based on lore, I would assume he’s immune to being poisoned so it makes sense there.

Tilt Scum:

Wryly - I don’t get the same towny vibes I got from her in previous games. There are a lot more pointed questions that are different than I think what she has historically done. It’s sort of the shade that I think Thoth is accusing me of throwing.

Luna - I feel like Luna has been back benching a little, basicallly letting Mikal run the show. As scum, he tends to back bench, and I don’t see a genuine contribution besides the one reads post. I also don’t like that he wanted to keep an outted TP alive.

Why do we not want them to know who the great generals are

So scum doesn't know who they can recruit

I guess the other approach is to get as many of the Great Generals declared as possible so if someone is recruited we know who to look at. I'd rather our energies be focused on finding OG scum though

I had something happen and depending on his character. I potentially can townlock him.

I just had a thought that I want to share while I'm on, since I might not be active again until evening. I have a guess at what (one of?) the anti-claim mechanic(s) is, and call it tinfoil modpsyche if you want. It's nearly confirmed, maybe hard-confirmed if I forgot something, that scum have can recruit, details of recruitment ability unknown. Mikal said he could determine which characters can or cannot be recruited and that the split would be hard to find even with Googling unless you had played the game, claims of which I was suspicious of yesterday but trust now that I townlock Mikal. If I were scum, my top concern would be hunting a recruit target, and I think you would all agree with this. Rex knew that whoever rolled scum would likely not be a lore-lord and would have no way of knowing whether or not a character can be recruited. My guess is that the anti-claim mechanic lets scum check your recruitability if they know certain information about your character, possibly with a full Rolecop, possibly yes/no, possibly not quite either of those two. It seems hard enough anti-claim to, "allow scum to use their roles to much greater effect", but soft enough that Rex might use it despite his rumored distaste for anti-claim.

I don’t think they know who they can recruit. Plus I’ve been just saying a bunch of dumb shit about who can and can’t be just to confuse them

i do know who can be recruited though. Not sure it’s entirely intuitive

When we feel it’s necessary I can give my actual theory but not sure if it’s game breaking for town and fucks us over if I do that

I dislike Luna right now and it’s why I want a character claim. It helps me remove him from my scum list

but his level of effort compared to other games seems very low. It’s hard to tell if that is recent or just with this.

VTL: Thoth

There's something that's been bothering me about Thoth and I am having difficulties finding the way to articulate why. Currently my POE is Pie, Vader, Thoth and maybe Mikal. I am almost certain there is at least one OG scum in that pile.

I think everyone has posted, but I still want more responses to post #226 before I reveal my info from last night. If your top scumread were scum, who do you think they would have killed last night and why? The way I see it, there are three essential possibilities:

1. Mikal. If he's town, which he almost certainly is from my perspective, his lorelordship will pendulate over you like the sword of Damocles (Damikales) as long as he is alive. Killing him makes fake-claiming much safer and deprives town of their de facto HMFIC (Head Mother Fucker In Charge, or, for those of you with soap in your mouths, Head Mikal Firmly In Charge).
2. Airmax or Kohai. Both are generally considered strong town if not town-lock, so you remove a nearly confirmed townie rather than Mikal because you either hope Mikal will derail town with a major miss on a lore-based guess or you want him dead but go elsewhere solely because you expect him to be protected due to WIFOM (Without It? Fuck Off, Mikal!).
3. Anyone else, for reasons unknown to us.

I don't think they are. Who would pick Shining over either of two nearly confirmed townies or the lore-lord? That's not a strictly rhetorical question. If you can think of any scum pair who would have killed Shining last night, I want to hear it.

Re: Post #228. Can anyone corroborate that wylted is bad at fake-claiming? This post makes me feel somewhat better about Pie, but I still gutread his behavior as off and too much like he is sneaking in attempts to fish for information.

I see a few comments that I’ve been “back benching”. I’m a little out of my depth with the theme here and I feel like so much of the discussion has been on theme this game, so I don’t really have comments on that stuff. I don’t usually do a ton of research on themes when I’m town, I just refer to my PM and that’s it. That said I did want to focus on inactives this day phase because they were skating by last day phase. My scum reads on Thoth and pie remain the same, I feel like they were trying to deter a town block and Thoth just has felt wierd in general to me, but I might be hyper paranoid of him after his scum play in pies game.

id be down to pressure either of them or Vader or another inactive, though it looks like ultra got replaced by Whiteflame which helps.

I feel like a lot of Thoth’s defense is similiar to the book “If I Did It” by OJ. He keeps defending himself for some reason when he really isn’t fully pressured to answer the questions. Don’t love it

I also strongly dislike the nature of how Thoth is playing. Oh I have info about the kill but I can’t reveal it cuz I will die is so weird to me because if you have any form of info that will help us catch scum than you should use it. It’s this back and forth with him and then him jumping around the point that I dislike as well

It depends on what’s in my arsenal as scum tbh. I trust my abilities to manipulate so I can tell you I definitely wouldn’t have killed Shining, Wryly, and Ultra. Realistically I probably would’ve wanted to kill Kohai for personal reasons and to avoid the boneheadedness.
