OK. I can buy this. I can soft that I've been a major cabinet member to Donald Trump and one of his most loyal supporters.

i can think of a few people who this could apply to as well

How about everyone softs the following:

A) You currently in the Trump administration

B) You were in the Trump administration (first or second term, don't have to specify)

C) You are not in the Trump administration, but are in Trump's orbit

mine is in the A category

So I don't really know how to soft my character without straight giving it away outside of what whiteflame asked for categories... i thought of a few different things i could say but they all kind of heavily hint at what i am. so my solution is to just soft anyway. plus idk if i will be super active because i forget to check in a lot, and since i am the last to really post anything yet i might as well just do it. my character deals with money. i know that kind of gives it away but ya but hopefully that helps some of you. at least you know that i am not waiting around to claim a character until the questions are used up, so youd have to buy that if im scum i just chose to lock in my claim before knowing what really anyone else is

as far as reads go, i dont have anything solid yet. my biggest opinion so far is that i think town reads are being thrown around a little too easily atm, which feels kind of suspicious. i know i am being voted for activity which is fine, but just curious how often is the inactive players actually scum these days? it seems like scum getting discord notifications would be more likely to check on the site and post, or at least i think i personally would. sometimes i need reminders to check game because i forget, and as scum it would be easier to do. magicman seems to be town reading everyone, i dont really see how there is enough information in under 4 pages of the game to be town reading everyone so easily. also i kind of dont like whiteflames read on thoth, but i do suppose i get the idea behind it. it just seems like maybe a read that should maybe at most give him a little town cred, but his soft still kind of applies to multiple people. also we dont know if mafia used all 4 questions right at the start, we are just kind of assuming they are holding on to them. just my 2 cents. ill try to keep up and follow better from now on

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think Pie has enough personal investment in this theme that scum are going to be obviously opposed to Trump. Probably Hillary and Tim Kaine.

Which would fit with scum having 4 whole questions. If it's something like Hillary and her VP, they can't straight-claim.

If I'm not around to be active, I'm not around to get your notification. All you did is clog my notifications center and give me more things to "Mark as Read".

There's not. You can't really read someone this early unless there's mechanical confirmation like Popular or Innocent Child, or the most blatant scumslip. We all understand that early reads come with asterisks and wide confidence intervals. It's still good for people to post reads so we can see how their behavior and their real or supposed reads change throughout the game.

I feel like Kohai's soft-claim is wide enough that it could be scum trying to build towncred by soft-claiming and leaving open opportunities to use their 4 questions once more people have (soft-)claimed . I'm gonna ask Pie if there's a deadline for when scum have to use their questions by.

Soft-claiming is mainly to lock scum in to fewer possible characters so they have a harder time fake-claiming later. It can also spur theme analysis.

my character is in the above list, since i basically already softed that.

no one has hinted at any leftists being in the game, so the theme split may be just dems vs repubs like thoth and wylted suggested, so i wont pitch any of those but we should be on the lookout for them as they do still stand out.

ive played in a fair few games on debatecraft so i know what soft claiming is and why you do it. i just dont understand why you would soft claim something if you think it applies to almost every character option in the game. thats like saying my character has eyes ears and a mouth. also i didnt view your soft claim like that, i had a very narrow few people aimed down when you soft claimed, so this doesnt apply to me. i just want to know what you think you were accomplishing with the claim if you personally dont think the soft accomplished much.

idk i dont think assuming peoples intention is a great way to solve people in a game like this. you should take them literally and ask as many questions as possible if you are truly trying to be open minded, which if you are town you would right?

okay i am coming around to the idea that thoth could be solid town at this point, that is a lot of unnesecary info for scum to give unless they are just this confident in their fake claim this early.

what do we think about other republican candidates who ran against trump at one point in time but ended up supporting him later? good or bad?

I'm of the opinion that theme analysis ends up being worthless 80% of the time. There can be a bumch of different things the theme could be and thene basically only exists as an extra hurdle for mafia to leap over.

ur not wrong, but anything that generates activity and gets people talking, forming opinions and conclusions, and getting us more of a read on them can't be bad for the game can it? theme isn't everything, i actually think behavior is more important, but since we dont have a ton of that to go on i think this can get the ball rolling

Agree with Banana. The game has to move forward somehow. Stagnant water is where pond scum grows. Even if 90% of the theme analysis shots miss, the 10% hits can be useful, and both the misses and hits can lead to other info that can form reads.
