Periodic Table of Elements Mafia - DP1

I've gotten a terrible gutread on Magoroth so far. There's nothing concrete to back it. Just an unease with how he's phrased certain things. Listen to me or don't, I don't care either way.

On the other hand, I don't get this as an SOP claim. It's an unknown role, not an SOP one. Maybe this is just Thoth being extra cautious, or maybe this is him trying to give himself some towncred out the gate in hopes he'll avoid investigations. I don't like the decision, even if I kind of townread the claim itself.

So my challenge this game is that I can't use flavor at all which now seeing more setup details I am unhappy about. On the mechanics side though I think a claim is NAI given the scum team is given questions to verify. Also given that Mafia could ask about specific elements there could be some sort of anti-claim function in the mafia roles. Players may want to be careful about declaring what they are until we know more about what kinda PR madness we are dealing with.

I have a role that was determined before the game started. I will learn what that role is at the start of DP4. This role has at least one ability. These abilit(y/ies) may be active or passive. It might be active now or it might not be. Pie won't tell me anything else about my abilit(y/ies) until DP4 starts. That's what I got between reading my PM and interrogating Pie.

Alright, that’s a unique design for a role, basically telling you that you have a hidden role and that it will be revealed later. I can better understand why you’d SOP claim that.

I have. My first MS game. People did not know 9/4 was possible. Town was at MyLo D3. Granted, the setup was very interesting.

Its more exercises to improve than thinking I am good. Forcing myself to work with limitations makes me do things differently and grow. Like last game many times I struggled to break down concepts and explain what I wanted to because I could not wall post. It made me be more concise and direct. If I really thought that highly of myself I would not make myself struggle with things I find less fun to improve as a player.

It's ambiguous to me too. I asked Pie if my ability is already extant, and he said he could not tell me. I say 'extant' because 'active' can also mean the opposite of passive.

Setting your self-imposed challenge aside, I disagree that claims are just NAI because scum can ask Pie questions. That matters, I’m just not convinced scum would ask about an obscure, largely unknown element like this one.

I played this game once at a board game night. It is a game where you look at cards that are drawn from the top of a deck, and, with just words that have just one word sound, have to help the guy on your team guess the word on your card. You get one point if they guess right, and two more points if you choose to read the next word on the card. All the guys at that board game night were shocked that I could read like that with no need to slow down or stop or speak in a way that did not break a rule of how to match one word with the rest of the words. I can talk like this all the time, and I can type like this too. It is not hard for me. I like it. In a weird way, it frees me up to think on just what the words mean. The book that tells you how to play the game says there should be a soft club filled with air, which is to be held by a guy not on your team, and with which they may bop you if you say a word that has more than one word sound, but we did not have such a club, which was a shame.

Im still chewing on how I feel about Thoths role claim. They essentially declared themselves something that develops into a PR later. Limits the pool Mafia would need to kill into to PR hunt but WIFOM could give them kill insulation. Then the mechanic itself is pretty odd. Not worth digging for more details but the claim is something I will consider more later.

“Loyal” is a modifier that prevents a role’s ability from being used on those of a different alignment. Basically, a Loyal PR that targets someone roleblocks themself if that target isn’t the same alignment.

Simple means it can only target Vanilla.
