Fake Claims

Scum were not given fake roles but they were given a selection of characters that were not in the game and I made it up to them to come up with fake roles and justifications for their claim. The fake claims were

Lady Impa

Horwell

Oshus

Owlan

Ciela

Fii

THEME SPLIT

The theme split wasn't as obvious as you would have expected. The theme is protagonists are town, antagonists are scum. Minor supporting characters are VT and the major ones are PRs. I included some lesser known characters from lesser known games to throw town off and to make scum fake claims more believable. That said, this was a very swingy setup. Thank you to @Mikal for assisting in hosting and review

MVP

Town MVP: Pie

Wolf MVP: Whiteflame

Overall MVP: Pie

Mod Notes

A few things that I wanted to note: There was a lot of v/v/v violence this game and it nearly costed town the game. There was a lot of incredible toxicity and I do believe it did cross a very significant red line.

On day phase 1 there was a slight issue with lunatic setting his profile photo to that of a Nazi flag. He clarified that it was making fun of Thoth for being super offended at wylteds profile picture so much that he wants to policy lynch him for it. To be clear I did not tell him to remove it I was just curious as to why it was there. I don't believe any rules were violated here though this did get some stir.

Day phase 2 is where shit really hit the fan with mag1c being modkilled. In a mafia game there is going to be arguments and disagreements and I understand that sometimes these disagreements get very heated and toxic. The decicsion to modkill came down to both his extreme toxicity and threats both in game and in private to share his entire role PM and throw the game.

Day phase 3 there was a big resolution question on what happens when a wolf lawyers themselves and get flavor copped the next day phase. I had some back and forth with Mikal on that. The decision that was made is that since they were lawyered the flavor cop would get the fake claim scum made in the thread. Mag asked if there were anyway the result could be manipulated. I did clarify that the answer was yes. I believe that was a fair way to balance out this role.

Bastard Notes

The original setup was extremely scum sided and included alignment changing elements. I was going to have master khoga as some type of recrutier for the yiga clan but found that was too swingy towards the scum team. That said bastard elements were removed so technically this was not a bastard game.

I have to ask this because I am genuinely curious, why am I always so widely scum read every game I play? I feel like I was constantly being scum read by like everyone this game, same with Rex's game lol. Just let me cook man!

Me it’s just paranoia like I explained in DMs lol

I honestly have the same problem on MU. Everyone calls me socially awkward and wolfy. If I'm wolfy I'm usually town, if I"m super wolfy it's because I'm a wolf, and if I'm ultra wolfy I'm town PR

Also don’t lynch me when I’m not around to defend myself lol. I was happy to claim and almost did when Wylted asked me earlier, except when I asked him what he wanted me to claim he kind of stopped the pressure so I figured it wasn’t needed. I went to bed and woke up to being lynched out of nowhere lol. This will be dismissed as wifom but as scum honestly id probably be too paranoid to fall asleep towards lylo and would be up hyper posting.

I'd say the game was townsided. You had a cop, a 1x flavor cop, a 1x tracker, a watcher, a 1x bulletproof, a bodyguard, and a governor. This means that the governor could town-confirm themselves, and the inventoy could town-confirm themselves. That's two confirmed townies in a 9-player game. Once they are confirmed, the watcher can observe them for NKs. If Link were killed he would also be resurrected and town-confirmed. This made the POE restrict a lot towards the end of the game, and also meant that we couldn't target the town-confirmed players as they would be watched. The whole time, there would be a cop poking around among those players who aren't town-confirmed. In reality we got very, very lucky with a lot of our actions (RBing Pie DP1, lawyering at just the right time, only getting exposed by the watcher when I knew I was going to die anyway, saving the ninja for later in the game, Magic losing his marbles).

Overall it was a fun challenge. Ultimately, I think Wylted and Pie had to basically ignore mechanics and make a 100% behavioral call to win, and it's remarkable that they both did. Despite the grueling mechanics, in the end the game was won by town through astute behavioral reads.

Yeah I do think the game was more town sided. If it weren't for the governor the town would have lynched link and would have fallen on that sword

Well, it is what it is.

Honestly, I was shocked so many people wanted to lynch Luna DP2, didn't expect to get that one and it was pretty fucked up that he got lynched in absentia like that.

Mag1c, man, I felt for you. I know Rex was pushing your buttons a bit, but we weren't trying to go that far at all and the modkill was completely unexpected.

In terms of how we played it, part of the problem was that there was just so much internal confirmation within town. Even if we hadn't NK'd Banana (we honestly thought she was Zelda), she would have been town confirmed by using her Governor role the next DP. Thoth/Wryly were almost town confirmed the moment they claimed Link (still baffled by how that lynch went down, but it happens), Mag1c's Zelda claim would've been similarly townread (particularly with the Cop), and Wylted basically got confirmed the moment Magoroth used the Day Cop (which was a pretty lopsided mechanic to incorporate into this game, pure luck I used the Lawyer the night before).

That left Pie, Luna, and Mago who wouldn't necessarily be townread based on their claims, though when the specifics of their PMs came out, Luna and Mago basically confirmed each other and, if I gathered correctly, Pie's Watcher claim could have confirmed him based on whether he gathered the right information. None of that was guaranteed, but it meant POE shrank fast and there was no room to argue by the end, even with a Ninja'd NK and confirmation of my fake claimed character. Ugh.

Was genuinely curious about this. You must have seen him visit the NK and not Whiteflame. The flavor cop his role gave out got a green check on Whiteflame. From my perspective he was behaviorally town and mechanically scum.

I def agree it was town sided, kind of insane town won that after the mharman chaos and technically two mislynches.

Also, this game proved my point about overclaiming. As scum, having so many unclaimed players so late in the game (for this lot) was unnerving. Introduced a lot of uncertainty, opportunities for counterclaims, and ambiguity around night actions. This was largely due to Thoth being accidentally hammered by Magic and us lynching Luna in absentia, so we never got on that claim treadmill where someone claims, and town backs off and switches to another target.

Yep that was my only hold up. I knew a Ninja had to exist in the game though with my role. So it was a question of how scummy do I think Wylted would be. He can be scummy af and still be town. What really got me sold on WF was a couple of things:

1) The kill on Mago. I figured the goal would be to make it Pie vs Wylted, but Wylted threw that down the drain by insta voting WF. Not much he could’ve done after that.

2) There was a distinct way WF responded to that fake pressure from Mago.

3) I saw the scumtell in DP2 this time on the thorough iso

I wonder how the game may have played out if the original rule against character claims was enforced.

To note I knew at the start it would skew town and I signed off on it. The initial setup as David mentioned had Zelda and link as mason lovers who could cop and do JOAT stuff with a day vig in the game. Mentioned it could end dp2 so he had to fully rebalance it

he kinda threw in the flavor cop randomly without me knowing which I think skewed it more but the call to allow the lawyer to balance it helped out.

my suggestion was to have all the town roles to be even night , odd night so it equaled out more but he went with some last minute changes

overall it turned out better than what i expected. But yeah there is no chance town should have won this. Especially with the magic crashout

if I were giving mvp it would be to wylted. It was obvious wf was trying to 1v1 pie and wylted just auto locked wf off a gut read and wf vs wylted was so heavily skewed for wylted that it won the game. That choice was the only redeeming thing for town this game.
