Mafia Victory Recap
Pie
Casey
Supa / RT
Resolution Clarification:
I was on vacation and didn’t have my computer, so just clarifying how this resolved:
After the super lynch, the game reached a 3-2 state. Skep had tracked Casey to the whiteflame kill but was injured. At that point, if either Casey or Pie had died, it wouldn’t have changed the outcome, it would still be 3-1 in favor of mafia.
The next Night Phase, the mafia pre-locked a kill on Ragnar. With Skep injured and unable to act, both Ragnar and Skep would die, leaving either Casey or Pie (whoever lived) against Earth. The only possible out for town would’ve been if Earth had delayed his PGO ability, which could’ve led to a delayed kill during the following NP after everyone was dead. But even with that, the next phase would still result in at least one mafia remaining alive, ensuring a mafia win.
Game Design & Balance Notes:
The core idea behind this setup was to give town a lot of roles, but ones with anti-town utility, to cause confusion and punish bad reads.
Town's only real investigative roles were:
They had just one protection role and a BP. Despite town having 3–4 JOATs, if they used their actions poorly or targeted wrong, mafia would benefit heavily. Additionally, several town roles had scummy optics by design, such as Beloved, Hider, Role Stealer which could naturally lead to misreads.
Mafia setup included:
A lost wolf who didn’t know who his team was or they didn’t know who he was
So while mafia didn’t have a large number of roles, the town was prone to self-sabotage through misleading role claims and actions. Roles like WFS and Icon’s were intentionally scummy in appearance.
Masons and Communication:
Mason PMs were included as a fun way to give town an edge and help with PoE. I wanted to test how a role madness game would play out with anti-town utility combined with constant communication. It created a dynamic where you had to really trust someone or lie to them to keep your actions hidden.
Meta Notes:
This was likely the most actively posted mafia game in the history of site even compared to the old DDO days. Despite the low post count most communication was through discord. There were over 5,000 Discord messages during the game, not including the forum thread.
If I could redo anything, I’d remove the injury mechanic. It was way too swingy. But hey, live and learn.
MVP: Whiteflame
Hands down the MVP of the game. Had the game fully solved and played a phenomenal game.
Town had some awful situations. Icon having to be lynched due to not speaking English or trolling. Plus the lynch on David. Weirdly I felt like this game was more mafia sided than town just because of all the chaos town could cause on themselves but town started very behind because of those two things. Not to mention the mafia pgo posioner which I think could have been sued more creatively. With proper Poe it could be in favor of mafia. Mafia did a good job at calling the correct actions and narrowing it down to solve. Also Mharm was clutch telling Ragnar to deflect or the game would have ended then.
