Tiny wish list on features

1- Add a link for reply's to show what post someone replied to. Small bit but big thing where players constantly have to guess what someone is replying to which is rough.

2- Add spoilers that cut sections of text behind a button. Small thing but huge to consolidate information for hosting or try hards giving a lot of information in a post. I really cant imagine hosting a game here without one.

3- Require hosts to have an OoO and reveal if a setup is bastard. Game integrity on this site is questionable but those two factors have come in front of me in the short time I have been here. Would be a substantial improvement as the community grows. If hosts make up the OoO as the game goes on it is bastard 100% giving them real time influence on what happens.

4- VTNL added to the mod bot. Apparently you can not vote to not eliminate right now. Thats not great.

How do you make an OoO generic enough without revealing roles

Regarding OoO: I think it’s easy to do basic types of operations without revealing too much. I’ve always defaulted to natural action resolution.

You don't.

If the community was bigger I would advocate for a setup approval process. Pretty common thing in larger communities where some old mafia heads sit around looking over setups and ask a bunch of questions to hammer out problems they see in balance.

The idea is not to have some "everyone follow this OoO" plan. Its just to prevent the unintentional bastard situation that inevitably comes when a host never made an OoO to begin with and suddenly a question is asked they did not anticipate or suddenly a combination of actions happens they did not think about and now they have to make a decision that will directly impact the game- Which is utterly the highest level of bastard. They then directly impact the game in their judgement.

I also saw hosts that wanted to run full closed setups either request approval behind closed doors 'or' they would simply role flood throwing in a ton of extra stuff that would be carved out when they ran the setup to prevent anyone from being spoiled.

This place has a weird middle ground I think is the worst for everyone where an OoO may or may not exist and is not communicated directly but is if you ask 5,000 questions which is just some total bullshit. Either tell me or don't tell me but demand I ask 5,000 questions so I can know? That sucks. And one day I am going to actually try hard in a game and the host is going to hate me as I ask about 10 questions of every possible role to break down the closest absolute understanding I can get in that weird fucked up dynamic.

But yeah- Even if an OoO is not gona be revealed to players its super important that it 1000% exists to prevent unintentional bastard situations we all have encountered at one time or another when we have hosted.

The mod bot right now is a bit weird since there's two different drop downs. However, on the left where it says "Vote" you can select "Unvote" and "No lynch." No lynch is definitely possible with our bot. I'll work on refining the voting dropdown in the next push

Ah, I am just dumb. Usually what it boils down to.

But thanks for all your hard work. I really appreciate the changes your making.

I honestly think the ooo thing is such an edge case it doesn't matter. An unbalanced game has so much more of an effect on the gameplay and sportsmanship than that ever would and we dont regulate that outside of shittalkimg in endgames.

I mean you're talking about bizarre role interactions in a theoretical complex setup where things can get murky and in which nobody asked the mod a clarifying question about a specific bizarre interaction which then happens. So in this extremely obscure and uncommon situation, our Schrodinger's mod might press their finger on the scale. That's a risk I'm willing to take for the added excitement that open ended and custom roles bring when town is in the dark about them.

Tbh I feel like a lot of other sites strip a lot of fun out of their games to autistically min/max fairness.

You're not dumb. It's just very easy to miss.

The problem is probably just that there isn't a universal agreed upon OoO. I think mafia night kills and role blocks should take precedence over most things, if not all (IE a night kill is functionally a roleblock as well if successful against anything other than a doctor target). But some people mod things in wierd ways

I personally think OoO is how you really tune the true balance in games. Designating specific roles to act before others can either nerf or buff them. I do not think having a rigid OoO established as an absolute is healthy to balance at all. It should be custom to every single game.

But also a host having an actual real no shit OoO removes the bastard element of them making it up on the fly. Thats the critical issue I do not see a way around. You either just declare your game bastard and the host will decide things in real time directly impacting the game which is the highest level of bastard or you expect your hosts to think of every possible situation. Or you just have hosts actually make their own OoO that fits their game even if they do not reveal it and stick to it.

Anyone thats hosted a real amount of games has been in that situation where some question they did not think of gets put in front of them and they know they will directly shift the game depending on how they answer. Thats unavoidable to some extent but also this key element being ironed out helps to prevent it from happening in the first place. A generic OoO should never be the answer imo.

Im all for a publicly confirmed OoO just be prepared for people like mikal to angle shoot the ever living fuck out of it to get "mod confirmation" and then get ten million questiosn from other players that mikal will be whining to you about not answering so it gives him an edge lol. Calling otu mikal a bit here because he is the one who does this the most but I see other players abusing it too. Its kind of why I strated just shutting the fuck up about any player asked questions in the last game and went hardline about just not answering shit. People will use any excuse they can not to scum hunt and rely on shit like this .

For the record, I think it would be good for hosts to give OoO in sign-ups. I just don’t think they should be required to do so.

I absolutely agree.

My entire take is that they should have one but not be required to disclose it.

The lack of one existing is a huge problem unless you have a lot of faith in the experience of that host or have a very basic setup

Edit post

#20 •••

“Required” is the word I take issue with. Whether they disclose it or not, requiring them to do anything is stupid. If someone hosts like an idiot, don’t play their games.

To be very honest- people say the same exact thing about sites.

You have someone that does a bunch of dumb shit that the site lets happen and people say "Fuck playing over there" Its not an isolated issue. Allow it to happen and people will avoid the site.

I would like to see the site grow. This is a very low standard I am suggesting. One that pretty much every site out there has a much higher standard for. If people want to say fuck it thats ok. Also makes me shrug and say "Why should I bother trying to grow this place"

Edit post

Suggesting mods do something is fine and dandy but enforcing people to do things is kind of a slippery slope.

to be frank, I think the mafia section is already overmoderated. I like the vc bot; I don't care for the host queue. We've always had one without needing a mod to run it. Not the biggest deal yet, but it sets a precedent I don't like, as the mafia community has always been very decentralized. So the slope may have already started.

If it is so amazing for the mafia community to do something, you can expect hosts to start doing it, lest the other players decide not to play their games. Out game setups are of much better quality than they used to be, and that solely comes from hosts listening to player feedback, be it their games or the previous host's game.

Do you feel what I am giving here is not player feedback? That it does not come from conversations with people in this community and people looking at getting into this community?

I am not sure how my words can be treated as anything other than "player feedback"
