I think the term species is not well-understood. Species isn’t a word you just get to define however you want.
Carpet sharks are very different from other sharks, so it wouldn’t be crazy to not classify them as sharks.
The Tasselled wobbegong is already in its own genus
Sharks were originally called “sea dogs” and were not very well-known.
Science is ever-changing, so definitions don’t really mean anything.
