I don't use the word "moral" but for people to contemplate better, slavery is "morally" neutral.

Thank you. Thank you readers.

Many believe that freedom in and of itself is inherently good. It is not. In astronomical cases , having no freedom for many people is good. Taking away freedom is good.

Just putting that out there . Triggering you many about the misnomer of freedom.

Slavery though which is obligation to something, to do with that something you can do no otherwise is neither good or bad .

As I've stated over and over in the debate topic "the 9-5 is modern day slavery", slavery in essence , in its basic form and nature is being obligated in which you are unable to do otherwise, outside of, apart from , away from .

Now that carries a host of activities in our daily lives, doesn't it?

That's right , so that puts more credence to the fact that context is crucial to declaring what is good and bad or right and wrong.

The context of slavery is nominally associated with the history of this world we're living in up to this point in the 21st century. It's regarded as negative and the antithetical nature to it directly is freedom.

Hence the nominal association to freedom is automatically received as always positive.

Slavery bad , freedom good . No , slavery is not bad, freedom is not good.

That is until we isolate details .

Enslaving or imprisoning mass murderers is not bad but good .

Giving freedom to mass murderers is not good but bad . Not withstanding those who have completed their sentence and have been rehabilitated.

If I enslave you as a slave, that on its face is not outright automatically incorrect. Until we have the terms and context involved, we have no basis for what makes it wrong .

I made a statement that may have ruffled some feathers in the topic forum.

The slavery of the past didn't need to end. Many will argue it didn't end but transitioned. The slaves in chains put on ships into the fields with whips could have used some adjusting.

Now for those lack of adjustments, enslavement can be made back today to enforce reparation policy to make good on the short of rightful compensation.

Some believe based on the biblical scripture this will happen in the after life. Those that made those to be enslaved and to serve will be serving God's chosen in the kingdom.

Speaking of biblical scriptures, many , particularly atheists have this gripe concerning biblical support of slavery.

I won't argue with that . There's the basis of slavery from old to the new testament.

We educate out of that book as well as many other books, teaching, going to schools, learning, training, working in labor and contribute to society under laws.

Last time I checked, laws are meant to control freedom. Being bonded to keep laws, be law abiding and instilling habits to the youth in order for them to adhere and bond to behaviors is one context of captivating the minds of many for the good .

I conclude that slavery is not bad,not good outside of said context.

In short, my opponent has left only 3 ways something can be; bad, neutral or good.

I argue this; slavery either can only ever be justified by being benevolent and good, a necessary component of a much greater good in other words. This is as simple as the type of slavery parents are automatically given the power to have over their children.

That is better for society than pure freedom, imagine if children and infants were literally left to do what they wanted as in a literal sense. It would be a disaster.

So, slavery can be good. It can also be bad.

It barely ever is neutral. Pro has not given proof it can be neutral yet.

", slavery can be good. It can also be bad.

You just gave the proof. Anything that is either or means it's not good in nature and not bad in nature. That's what neutral is. It's nothing until you contextualize it. So for slavery to move into good gear or bad, it has the capacity to move from either direction with neutral in the middle of the two.

Good and bad are separated by the center line or middle ground which you can call "neutral".

Just like guns or any tool. A tool in and of itself is neither constructive or destructive alone. That's what neutral is.

So by you saying IT CAN BE, that is not saying IT IS. "IT CAN BE" and "IT IS" are different.

So if it can be this? What does that mean?

If something CAN BE good, it's indirectly saying it is not by default. If that same thing that CAN BE good but is not, at the same time, CAN BE bad but it is not , all you have is what?

"CAN BE 'S".

Which leaves what?

.......... neither or neutral.

This is when we're talking about a subject in and of itself.

Neither is neutral .

Mal is literally definition wrangling. How in God’s name is slavery being forced to do something? That’s such a dumb definition. For a couple reasons. First off, literally EVERYONE is forced to do something at some point, by someone or something else. Even in physics, every action comes with a reaction. Is the world just a mixture of slaves? The word comes utterly meaningless when everyone and even everything can be a slave.

Second, being a slave means you are owned by someone else. Every society that had slaves used slaves for this specific type of servitude; slaves don’t have free will except in a very limited sense (whatever their master decides to let them do). And the 9-5 example is laughable. Nobody is enslaving. You are getting paid to do a job you actually voluntarily consented to.

Under any reasonable person’s “definition” of slavery, slavery is unequivocally bad. No, parents aren’t enslaving their children. That’s retarded.

I wish I could vote for Con but he didn’t argue the absurd definition that Mal gave for slavery, so I won’t be voting.

You're going need to provide a definition of slavery. Is it involuntary servitude? Unpaid work? Biblical slavery?
