I want meat gone. It is mean and harmful to us and the planet. I'm looking forward to seeing what the possible benefits could be.

Round 1

1 of 5

So yeah. I want meat to get banned. The U.S. government should be the one to enact the ban on meat because it actually has a lot of powers with regards to animal slaughter. Presidents have the power to pardon animals from being cooked (they often do this to Thankgiving turkeys). And they also didn't want turkeys to be the national animal because they like eating them. Bald eagles get special protection. Donald J. Trump wanted protect cats and dogs from becoming food, because some cultures cook them. So clearly, whether meat should be legal or not is ideally left to the federal government (not the individual states because some states will enforce bans while others will ignore them).

I want you to think about something for a sec: Imagine someone looking at you and thinking, "Wow, nice person. I will turn you into a lunch." That's not a good friendship strategy, so meat should be banned immediately. Anyways, let's get into the actual reasons to ban meats.

First of all, it seems unfair to turn these very important creatures into burgers and nuggets just because humans enjoy the taste. Also, meats come from animals that have faces. Vegetables usually don't have faces, unless you draw one on a potato. But that potato can't run away because it hasn't got any legs. Therefore, eating vegetables is more politer because they are already sitting there and not making any eye contact with us at all.

Secondly, the types of meats that are banned is not consistent. Cats, dogs, and horses are typically taboo, while cows and chickens are actually encouraged to be killed and cooked for you to get food. And there is no reasons. It's just that some people like some species more than other ones.

Thirdly, banning meat would make every person get healthier because nobody will have to eat a stupid sausage (sausages look like they were invented in a basement). People should be eating carrots and beans (not jelly beans, those are very bad for you). The world would have fewer cows being burgers, and fewer chickens being nuggets. There's a reason why every human (and animal) hates McDonald's (no offense btw), and especially the meat they sell (it might not even be real, lol)

Fourthly, Humans are getting a lot more dumbness into them (because of brain rot if you couldn't guess), whilst animals are slowly getting smarter by the minute (kinda scary). For example, some animals are learning to do tricks, solve puzzles and use tools. Rationality is also becoming difficult to determine. We cannot simply say that it's ok for us humans to eat animals because we are rational, since plenty of humans make extremely irrational decisions, like texting “lol” when something isn't really that funny or buying some furniture that takes 6-7 hours to build. Since rationality is kinda hard to measure, let's stop using this as our reason for eating meat.

So yeah. That is why I think that eating meat should be banned. If we wait till animals can speak clearly, it'll be too late and extremely embarrassing for humankind. Animalkind of the future might look back at humans and say "You people knew we were becoming intelligent but still chose to do it. The blame is all on you." Banning meat now would prevent any future rational animals from being mistreated and would give humanity a chance to apologize before the chickens take over our world. If not, animals could decide to eat humans back, which I don't think anyone is looking forward to...animal apocalypse... "We get the last laugh!" said the bull ready to charge you into the oven

I think that's good for now

Okay, so basically your argument is that animals should be treated on the same level as people? Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I'm gathering.

Well, first off, we are created in God's image, no other species is so that automatically puts us higher than animals and on top of that He said that man is to have dominion over the animals and be good stewards of His Creation. Only humans are capable of creating written languages and learning to communicate in numerous other ways. Only people have self awareness and moral reasoning. No animal species can contemplate and express their thoughts and ideas or execute such principles as selflessness or justice. Animals cannot have compassion, they only rely on instinct. On top of this, what animals have such a complex social system? None at all. No animals have laws and law enforcement, no other establishes government, creates businesses, etc. Humans are vastly superior to all animals in morality, intellect and self-awareness. Also, no offense, but if you think that they're nearly our equals so we shouldn't eat them, tell them to stop eating us. Just saying.

Now, on a political level, I'm a conservative independent and I believe that the government doesn't have the right to ban consumption of meat for everyone. On a personal level, you can do what you want, I'm not arguing that. I myself am actually a flexitarian (or semi-vegetarian if you call it that) but for the government to regulate food of this nature is infringing upon individual rights. There are some acceptable cases of course, like banning the use of unpitted cherries in food because those contain cyanide which is a poison, or right now the government is trying to ban Red 40 in food products because it is capable of causing cancer in children and young adults and has absolutely 0 nutritional value, but many kinds of meat are a healthy, staple food item and meat on the whole is honestly irreplaceable.

Round 2

2 of 5

First of all, if we are created in god's image as you claim, this poses many problems. The bible says male and female he created them. What about non-binaries? And saying that only humans are in the image of god poses problems for the transspecies. Do they suddenly stop being in god's image because they become animals? And what about the animals that become humans? These are all reasons why we should reject the bible's account of creation. It undermines humanity. It presents Adam as superior to Eve and creates a hierarchy of genders. Non-binaries are classified in a way to make it seem that they don't exist.

Second, The biblical creation also undermines animal dignity. You think we are superior to animals and can therefore kill them. How cruel! You think that humans are significantly smarter than animals. You ignore what dumbness each generation gets one by one. Humans aren't smarter than animals. Animals have much less problems to deal with. Animals chose not to talk to prevent having any of their quotes to use against them. Animals are always thinking in their mind how dumb humans are. You are a speciest. And I am very smart, but I don't want to be called a human as in the species. I resonate more with animals, which is why I consider myself transspecies. This doesn't make me less smart or less valuable. Being a dragon makes some people pretend I don't exist because they say dragons are just myths. It's all so offensive.

Also, Meats are worse than vegetables because animals can get more diseases, like rabies. Banning meat would immediately save tons of human lives. And more people will be happy that their favorite animals don't get cooked to simply please humans taste buds.

Finally, I know another problem for you is inconsistently. You say humans are better than animals. But certainly you don't support cooking every kind of animal. We can't just ban some animals because we like them better. It's all or nothing, people

You just asked a great question. What about non-binaries? Oh, I know this one, "male and female created He them." As for the "transspecies" you mention, I have not the slightest clue what that means but if you're talking about people who think they're animals, let's not even bother going there because the debate isn't about that and it's not worth wasting time over. As to the second half of that paragraph, there is a hierarchy. Eve was created from Adam for Adam. Her job was to be his helper and in return, he took care of her. To this day, it is customary for the man to be the main breadwinner and the head of the household while the woman takes care of the children and things at home. With the last sentence, I think you hit the nail on the head.

Now, in response to your second claim, YES, we are most certainly superior to animals and therefore have the right to kill them for food or protection. Obviously, this doesn't mean killing for sport but we most certainly are qualified at birth to have dominion over animals. They don't need "respect." Respect is something that's earned. If human babies aren't even born respected, why on earth would some animal need to be respected and revered just because it happened to be born. You mentioned the "dumbness each generation gets one by one." No comment on that one. I would like to ask how you always know exactly what all animals are thinking, telekinesis, psychic abilities? Teach me, please. And by the way, I don't think they "chose" not to talk, but I could be wrong because as you said, you are a very smart dragon. The smartest dragons still couldn't manage to avoid extinction by people with sharp metal sticks though, so maybe humans are just smarter? Think about that one. And it's not even supposed to be offensive, it's just factual. Whether you choose to accept it or not is your choice.

I don't know why you think banning meat would immediately save so many lives, just so you know, we don't eat the ones with rabies and that's a very low percentage anyway. Most people don't eat raccoons or coyotes anyway and those are the two largest carriers of rabies in the US. Honestly, it would probably cost some lives to ban meat consumption until people learned to live without it, not to mention that such drastic and sudden dietary changes are horrible for your body. You have to remember that there isn't just America, there are sooo many cultures and geographical climates around the world and not everybody can just go to the produce section of the grocery store, even in the US. Sure, it might lower the risk of heart disease and cancer but it's not going to save millions of lives, even after generations of people adjusting to the new meat-free lifestyle.

For your final claim, I disagree completely. People can eat whatever they want with very few exceptions. There's laws of course on endangered or threatened species but if you aren't breaking any of those laws then who is to tell you that you can't eat whatever animal is available if you need food. We most certainly can ban some species because we like them better (human rights) but that's not even my point. Why shouldn't the species at the top of the food chain and natural hierarchy not be allowed to exercise the given privileges?

Round 3

3 of 5

lol--the bible says "in the beginning he created them, male and female." Nice try by trying to reorange the words to make the "them" disconnected from "male and female" by saying "male and female created He them." The bible clearly uses the pronoun "them" in this case showing there is more complexness than the binary gender system. Otherwise it would say "male and female he created him and her".

Now about transpecism: it's not really about transpecism per say. My bigger point is that the difference between and animal and a human is hard to tell. For example, tell me where you draw the line. How smart does one need to be in order to qualify as a human. Also, you will need to decide what you do when aliens come. How smart do they need to be to exempt themselves from getting cooked by us? You can't just say humans are smarter than animals and expect no problems to come in the future. There is no legal way to define human. By your logic you think that the first human (whose parents were not human) was allowed to cook their parents because the parents weren't human. Ridiculous! Their parents would be a step below humans but they didn't deserve to get cooked. There is no real difference between a human and animal. We just invented that difference because we wanted to eat some tasty meat without having to worry about being hunted by other humans. Humans are both selfish and cowards (I hope the word cowards is not offensive to cattle)

You see, This is why I see the definitions of animal and human as fluid, like the male and female gender categories. There is no way for outsiders to tell if someone is male or female or some other gender. Some ex-animals prefer to identify as humans. Some ex-humans prefer to identify as animals. Banning meat helps prevent any misunderstanding from happening where a human could accidentally get cooked because people thought they were an animal. But it's fine to eat vegetables since humans cannot look like vegetables as much, so it's a lot harder for someone to mistake a human for one. This also prevents the election system from getting abused. Animals could decide to identify as humans to simply rig a presidential election since there are thousands of animals species in the country. And also a human who then decides to become an animal should not lose the right to vote.

Also, you can see in my debate about strawman here. In it I show that it is problematic to use the term strawman because it can imply they are legal persons. You then have to worry about attacking strawmen and getting sent to jail. This is why using words like "human" and "animal" as legal terms don't work. They express identity. We should not use human as a legal term. Human rights don't exist, because no one knows what humans are. Theres just rights, not special ones for humans. I coin a new word: humanimal. Humanimals deserve rights. You can eat fruits and veggies, but just stay about from the humanimals. The plants don't feel pain but the humanimals do.

Well, banning meat would indeed save lives. It will just make people upset but its worth it to save their lifes. This is why we punish our kids, even tho they don't like. Its whats best for them, even if they don't know it :) kinda funny honestly

Your first claim is astoundingly absurd so let's skip straight to the next one. It's not being just smart that makes us human, if (and this is physically impossible so don't get any ideas) a gorilla learned to read, write, talk, and drive, it wouldn't be a human now, just an abnormally intelligent gorilla. You're right, there isn't a legal definition to the word human but I think Homo Sapiens will suffice. We all know what we are and what is not us, or so I thought before this debate. How did it go from banning meat to whatever tomfoolery we're now discussing? Anyway, this is from Dictionary.com, "of, relating to, characteristic of, or having the nature of people. human frailty. consisting of people. the human race. of or relating to the social aspect of people. human affairs. sympathetic; humane. a warmly human understanding. a human being. A member of the species Homo sapiens; a human being." There is a full list of things that separate humans from all animals. Need more?

"Ancient philosopher Aristotle argued that while plants have life and animals have life plus perception, humans possess a rational soul — the ability to reason, deliberate, and act on abstract principles. He also emphasized language as a tool for reasoning and communication, and saw humans as inherently social (“political beings”)" www.deepthinkers.netwww.deepthinkers.net.

Cognitive and Biological Differences

Modern science identifies several key differences Science ABCScience ABC+2:

  1. Abstract reasoning and problem-solving – Humans can think about concepts not tied to immediate sensory experience (e.g., justice, mathematics) and apply solutions across contexts.
  2. Self-awareness and mental time travel – We can reflect on our own thoughts, imagine past events, and plan for the future.
  3. Complex, symbolic language – Unlike animal communication, human language is generative, allowing infinite novel sentences, and can refer to absent or hypothetical topics scienceinsights.orgscienceinsights.org.
  4. Theory of mind – The ability to attribute beliefs, desires, and intentions to others, enabling nuanced social interaction.
  5. Cumulative culture – Knowledge and technology build across generations, with deliberate teaching and innovation, unlike the limited cultural transmission in most animals biologyinsights.combiologyinsights.com.

If that's not enough, think of it like this, ever seen an animal write a book? Didn't think so. Now, you said humans are selfish and cowards. There's another thing that sets us apart. Animals are literally ONLY selfish because that's how they survive without social contracts, governments and rights like we have. They rely purely on instinct. Even the most intelligent, highly trained dogs cannot fully have their wild instinct bred or trained out of them. As for being cowards, that varies by individual but our species on the whole is not cowardly. How do you think we've settled every inhabitable place on earth and even some uninhabitable places? Such a coward Richard Byrd must have been, or Amerigo Vespucci (after whom this great nation was named).

Now for your final claim, which frankly you should have saved face by keeping to yourself. I don't even know where to begin. Animals deciding to identify as humans and vote, eating vegetables because we don't look like plants, people identifying as animals and losing voter privilege? Not even sure I want to get into this because you're so far off topic but at this point it doesn't matter. Animals cannot vote, plain and simple. Never thought I'd live to see the day when someone suggested that. Do you REALLY, deep DEEP down think that if my turtle says, "hm, I'm a human now," then he can just go to the DMV and register to vote? Just say it out loud a few times and think on what you said. I'm honestly going to stop here because no matter what a member of Homo sapiens claims that they are, they're still human and that's non-negotiable. Besides, who, other than you and a few select online individuals, would want to identify as an animal anyway? How about this proposal? If you can identify as a different gender and exercise the "inherited" privileges, children can identify as adults and exercise those privileges. You want life to be "fair", there you go. By the way, fairness and equality are not the same and in this world they rarely mix.

Round 4

4 of 5

Using Aristotle? He is super outdated

Plants are clearly different from humans and animals. They don't move. We both draw our line in different places, I guess. You need something to be smart enough that it becomes someone and not just a thing but a person. But you don't really have a clear way to draw the line in the way I do. You just say humans are smarter, but how smart do we need to be?

So no one should be forced to be called human if they don't like it. If they want to be an animal, that's fine with me. As long as they don't interfere with my identity either, I can live with it.

I'm also just worried about the future. Like when animals get smart enough. And what about aliens. We need to solve some of these problems now before they lead to worse problems that can destroy humankind

It's not about being smart, it's mostly about being civilized and having opinions, memories, the ability to improvise and make decisions, etc. but the grounding point of it all is our species. All of that and more (feel like I've responded to the same statement three times) distinguishes people from animals and I actually just drew a very clear line for you. Recall that Homo sapiens = person, not Homo sapiens = not person. It's pretty simple but these days people like to twist the easiest facts and confuse themselves. If animals can sophisticate themselves and therefore become people, why don't crows, which are extremely intelligent and capable of learning to speak, inherit voter rights?

Round 5

5 of 5

I mean you're gonna have to define what you mean by "civilized". And define it in a way that doesn't dehumanize other humans.

The species Homo sapiens is not where the line is drawn. It's more like the genus Homo or maybe the family Hominidae but not the species Homo sapiens. Neanderthals were pretty smart and would probably be classified as persons legally. Even aliens could be intelligent but look nothing like a human.

And there's nothing in human DNA to make us special. Anyone can be smart!

And some animals should probably get the right to vote.

Basically treat others the way you want to be treated. If humans cook animals, animals will one day cook humans. I think the golden rule trumps everything else, so looks like I win.

thank you for the debate...

So it has come down to having to define "civilized". Let's see, how about not walking around in the nude for one? Animals don't have a conscience or a soul, hence no morals. Additionally, "thou shalt not steal" does not exist in the animal world but it is engrained in us at birth. You see, we humans, Homo sapiens have a moral compass that no other species has ever had or ever will have. You also said that there is nothing special about human DNA. That is utterly false. Only our DNA supports a massive brain to fill our big heads, complex language skills involving both the vocal tract and the brain, and cumulative culture/social learning, specifically extended childhood development and generational knowledge. If I were you, I wouldn't be so quick to make a conclusion, while I also am a firm supporter of the "Golden Rule," I'm exceeding certain this does not mean that the animal kingdom will not one day take revenge on me for eating a salad containing grilled chicken for lunch today.

The 1611 KJV was the first english translation directly from the Masoretic Text and the Textus Receptus, therefore the first and last inerrant Word of God in our language. The most accurate literal translation. Don't bother arguing about things for which you have to rely on Youtube University and Google Community College.
