Lawliet has sugar addiction, autism, chained himself to Light and more.

Also the 'erru' way his name is said is similar to error in british accent.

The proof is there if anyone searches it. His ethnicity is too.

The reality of N being wammy house champion is explicit when Mello concedes in this scene that technically N should have been chosen over him if it came down to it and ironically Nate was the one willing to work fully with Mello, not the other way around.
