Between roughly 2014 to 2016, I was active on debate.org (or as it was affectionately called, "DDO"). I wasn't a 'hall of fame' user by any means, but I think I had something like 5k posts and a dozen or so debates completed. There was a good year or so where I would debate, participate in forum mafia, and hang out on video calls each evening, playing Risk and other online games with a core group of folks.

Reflecting on my adolescence, being exposed at a young age to people from different viewpoints who debated issues passionately, but then could still be friends and part of a forum community, was a formative experience. I'm grateful for those years.

I figured the community was long gone, but was surprised to find this site and saw a few usernames I recognized - I remember Airmax, Wylted, Thett3, Whiteflame, Mikal, Bullish, imabench, 9spaceking, to name a few who I can tell have profiles on here. 10+ years later, out of boredom and curiosity, here I am making this post.

Curious which peeps from back then are still lurking around here. If anyone feels like responding, I'll message you my old username and a little bit more about me if you think we might have interacted back then (I promise I will not be offended if you do not remember me). Cheers, debatecrafters.

Hey, welcome to debatecraft. It's great to see you around!

I started on DDO many years ago. I'm still going strong

Hey, great to see you here! It's been a long time, but I still remember those early days on DDO fondly. I think I joined in 2014, so around the same time as you, and I've just been around ever since. To catch you up a bit, the site largely went down to spambots and inattentiveness from Juggle, we moved onto another site that was largely meant to fill the void called DebateArt that has also since gone down, and now we're here in an entirely member-run community with a lot more experimentation on design. It's a great time to come back, and regardless of how much you plan to participate, I'm glad to see you back.

What's the point of being coy? Just tell us who you are. I'm Philochristos (aka Sam I am) both here and on DDO. I don't remember if I was active during the time you were active, so I don't know if I would know you or not. I think I joined DDO in 2009, and I was kind of active for a while. I'm not sure when I slowed down.

Joined DDO in late 2016. I doubt I talked to you, but I’ve probably seen your old name.

I still don’t know what to type!

You probably remember me as TUF, I have been on the site since 2011 when it was Debate.com and owned by Phil. I am sure I know you.

In loving Memory of Lannan and Ajab, fallen debaters.

Debate.com indeed.

Have I been doing this for 15 years?

It's no wonder that I'm 66.

The interactions and arguments I've had on the sequential iterations of DDO have been beneficial for me too. I might make a post about its impact someday. I love this community. I think about it everyday

Yes, I've become more moderate, more philosophical, more tolerant, more accepting and consequently less confrontational.

More inclined towards satire as a modus operandi.

Yes, DebateCraft and it's forerunners have long since been an important part of my day.
