No, rules do apply and it is not "nonsense." If we cannot conduct ourselves in civil discussion, then we are not adults and never will be. In DART, I was threatened directly by another member who felt pissed that I appealed his actions of seeking approval of a debate tactic to the DART site owner. The user was able to obtain. my personal identity the names of my family and our address. No. Strictly forbidden, and I want the assurance of compliance to sensible rules of conduct the site. If people cannot abide by some simple rules of conduct, they can shove their claims of "rights." Threats are not rights. They're not even privileges.

Making friends on discord is easy. Join server, chat a bit, send friend requests.

I am not saying rules dont apply. Just our discord server, few members had trouble joining due to welcome screen and necessary clicks.

That's not necessarily true. You very well could walk into a random discord server and send out 100 invites and not a single one of them could be a "quality" member (though I feel like what you'd consider quality is different from what I'd consider quality). Inviting people is not inherently a bad idea, but just spamming out invites to anyone who will accept them is most definitely not the way. Some element of discretion has to be used.

Also, growing the discord server through spamming invites isn't actually the goal. The goal should be the growth of Debatecraft, not it's discord server. We can't really monetize the discord server as well as we can monetize the site, so if the goal is growth then it should be focused around this website.

And no, mass recruiting into our discord isn't an effective method to grow the website. Out of the 40+ people you spammed our discord link to, I think only two of them from what I've seen so far have made an account? The rest are just flooding the chat channels. That's not growth, that's just making this discord unusable.

To be honest, I'm willing to just go with SatanLucy here. He's done more to grow the site in a few days than we've done in months. Not every discord member will join the site, but they're in our turf and we can advertise the site to them. Also a few started doing debates and one even signed up for the tournament. Uncommitted people will filter themselves out.

Not all growth is good growth. But if this is the direction that y'all want to push the site in, then I guess I need to question if that's a direction I want to be a part of.

I don't think the trolls are as likely to actually join the site. And there are ways to filter them out, easier to filter once ppl are in the discord.

Because the Discord doesn't require as much effort as doing formal debates.

I literally had 4 excellent debaters come to discord. But I am pausing invites currently, for now. Right now I am advertising our server in servers designed for advertising to see if that works maybe better. Of course, I prefer to farm users from actual debate sites. But I see no harm in random people joining as well. Server isnt just for debating, it has entertainment section too.

And the way even if site grew naturally is same. You would always have few bad users coming. It's not possible to grow by only getting good users.

Then we're competing with other advertisers. I'd focus on recruiting debaters, that's what we need more of.

I will see what I can do, but no promises. A lot of members seem to be complaining about some new users. I don't know what to make of that.

Also, this would be a lot easier if I wasn't the only one doing invites. We would get like 10x more users per day if we had a group to do this instead of just me.

Can you ask door or whoever to invite a ton of ppl or make announcement in their server?

Yes, I do self promote in some servers, like doors. But she is busy now. She is already member of our server.

Also, in a way, Grateful was correct partially. Some new users are trolls who annoy users who were there for years. I am just not sure how we can grow without also having trolls come over. I need to be more picky about who I invite, I just cant figure out how to do it efficiently without too much time investment into researching users.

Also I'm direct messaging people who join the server to direct them to the site. Discord limits how many messages I can send out at once, so it will be slow, but if you can handle getting people to the server I can try and handle getting them to the site.

I am not sure. I dont get many users from discord ads servers. In fact, after posting in 3 ads servers once, I dont think I got any users from there. So discord ads servers could be greatly inferior.

I will develop a new way. By sending people direct messages telling them about both server and site. that could be more interesting. Slower, but might get more users per invite.

I have experience with successful advertising campaigns, and this idea is a good one (as long as you are using debate servers, are vetting the people you're inviting, and the servers have no rules against poaching.) but it is unsustainable long-term and is primarily useless as a primary source of advertising.

I am not, but I can invite few people each day. We went from under 120 members to 163 in a relatively short time. Of course, if someone has a better idea for advertising, they can do that instead.
