I was in a cycle club for years, that had a membership of approximately 200.
But it was the same old 20 or so that turned out for club rides.
I turn out daily for the DebateCraft Forum where regular active participants probably numbers ten or so.
It is what it is...A niche interest.

I have many ideas for free effective advertising, but sadly, people arent willing to do it. I mean, you can even put posters or door knob hangers, or do phone calls, which is about most effective almost free advertising there is, but given that people don't want to engage in even simple discord invites, I doubt they are interested in any form of advertising which requires any effort. Original idea was just "pay google to advertise us", and that turned out so bad that I legit think they payed money to get almost nothing in return.
From what I have seen, personal invites work best. Like, best by far, even better than payed ads, doesnt matter if in person real life, personal invite left at door, or discord invite. As long as its "personal" it works. Posters at high traffic areas probably have lower effect, because they are not personal. People simply feel more valued when personally invited. I am not an expert in advertising, I just see what works better so far.

But main problem here is that no one is willing to make any consistent effort. they maybe mention debate craft to 1 or 2 people and thats all. Like, I probably sent 400 invites and only got like 40 new users. You simply dont bring in new people by mentioning it to just 1 or 2 people. Effect of mass is more true in advertising than anywhere else. First and primary goal of advertising is to let greatest number of people possible know that you even exist, mass effect. Second is saying what you offer, which also needs to be worked on on this site by making site be educational as well, not just debating. But no education section exists.
I've been messaging the people you brought in to get them to the site. Even got one to join the UltraRated tournament.
Yeah, I can keep bringing maybe 2 or 3 new users on discord per day. thats how much effort I can consistently do. And yes, its great if you message them all to join site, because I am merely sending discord invites.
So, I will monitor the progress of two newbies to see how active the become.

put me as head mod but on a clean alt that you deny is me, give me the authority to rectify the way the debaters carry themselves. Once the site's rules are fully fixed and I remain the ruler doing God's work, great rewards will come.

In order to attract long term people, those people need to hear about you, of course, and you must have something desirable enough to offer which makes users stay. So if you have some great way of "people hearing about you" which we didnt know about so far, and also "something desirable to add to the site", please present it.

To be honest, there is no real true way to lure people in. I think posting YouTube content about intellectual debates drives engagement for people interested. I think the mafia does a good job bringing in people. Obviously, paid Google advertising works. Those are the best ways.
From what I've seen, growing by spam inviting to the website lures bad apples and the odds they retain and stay for >1 year is pretty low.
There isn't a clear way, but if we want active members that would be with us for a while, then I think that isn't the route

I don't Discord is wrong for building a Discord server. But you need to have quality candidates that would use the discord and would provide engaging content and can handle conversations. Then you have to make sure they register on the site and are consistently active on the site.

I mean, some youtube shorts have like million views, but it didnt translate to even 10 new users. So thats efficienty rate of <0,0001%. Maybe Youtube will eventually push through, but it takes consistent posting, especially of shorts. And they gotta be interesting too.
Its why I suggested tik tok instead, but as far as I can see, the only way you get users on discord reliably is by inviting people who are already on discord.
Paid advertising simply doesnt work because you cant even guarantee that the views on it are from actual people and not bots. there are actually bots made to earn money by watching ads.
Google ads could be truly most inferior. Maybe ads on apps are better, because at least you know apps are used by real people, especially apps for chatting with AI like talkie. those are obviously mostly used by humans.
