Sometimes I really question the value of a lot of news stories,
Small individual events matter 'locally,
'Large group events matter 'nationally,
'Statistics, past data, comparison, explanation, theory,
Is what matters more and more to me.
Not that small individual events, or small group events of a local nature 'can't be reported nationally,
But I think they lose 'meaning, the bigger America gets.
Is traditional soldier work the most 'valuable use of an individual during war time?
By that I mean, when I imagine people being drafted to war, I always imagine them as soldiers, often cannon fodder.
Yet some wars are 'partial engagements.
Often drafted individuals 'never see combat maybe, lot of roles in military, vehicle maintenance for example.

I would suggest that a vehicle is a self propelled wheeled contraption and a building is a stationary facility.
Though I suppose that it would be possible to fit an engine and wheels to a building.
But I envisage problems, especially on British roads...A lot of low bridges, overhead cables and narrow roads.
Same applies to airborne craft I suppose...Well not low bridges and narrow roads.
Though, cables, but not necessarily overhead ones, would still need to be approached with caution.

America lost 50,000 troops in the Vietnam. They were losing the war and the draft was necessary. But they lost the war anyways and had to withdraw in disgrace, just like they did in Afghanistan and Iraq after waging a twenty year war. Even here the draft was necessary to find Americans willing to fight.
