Just cut out the US altogether...It's not that the rest of the world can't produce everything that the rest of the world needs.
The US only occupies 6.14% of the Earth and makes up just 4.2% of the global populace.

Why would the states annex Canada when it currently doesn't want backward cultures hopping over the borders?
Some of our provinces do want to break away, but they still might not be culturally compatible with the States.
