Who loses more with the collapse of the US-Canada trade deal?

I assume Trump would be happy with a deal that gives unfair advantages to America in the deal.

Though that would be a 'bad deal for America, since it's 'bad to have unhappy trading partners.

I am reminded of Thenardier in Les Misérables.

His business failed because he had a bad reputation and no repeat customers, from his constant fleecing of his customers.

Sure they can find other markets, but assumably a close market is better.

Fewer people, means easier for people and government to manage and keep track.

If robots ever get 'really mainstream, more efficient.

Less people, more land,

Renting and offering vacation to people is valuable.

Canada had no choice but to put its cards on the table. Trump tore up the NAFTA deal then negotiated the USMCA deal then threatened to abandon the USMCA deal he signed and started adding tariffs in both violation of the USMCA deal and the U.S. constitution. The Supreme Court ruled his tariffs illegal. He was even forced to return the money he collected as tariffs. Trump then found some vague emergency rule that allowed him to charge countries tariffs on a temporary 6 month basis. Meanwhile the Americans are facing an affordability issue with all the price of gas, beef, diesel , eggs and housing going up.

But Trump has benefited from the economy by making 1.8 billion in 2025 on his crypto investment. And his family stands to make 7 billion in over 29,000 investments they have made under his presidency. Don’t blame Canada for any of this nonsense.

Right, Canada has no agency for 11 straight years of near-flat growth, so don't blame Canada. It's a vassal state de facto, according to this reasoning.

The Chinese AI argument above reduces Canada to a helpless bystander who had no policy choices for eleven years, on housing, energy, productivity, immigration levels, investment, regulation, or trade dependence.

“Trump made bad trade choices” and “Canada’s long stagnation is Trump's fault” are wildly different claims.

Canada got a little complacent under Trudeau and under performed for the last decade. But things are picking up.

It's not about who gives in first. Denmark solved the Greenland problem very smartly and they didn't need to confront Trump. They didn't lose anything either.

This is all political so the left will never give in because they're happy with the shit they do to Canada. And obviously, they will never give in because they hate Trump as some user here do (yes, I'm talking about @Sidewalker and @DoubleFknR).

The only thing that can help Canada right now is that the US Congress impeach Trump after he loses the midterm elections.

Otherwise, I think it would be too late for Canada. The damage will be huge.

Yes, we need the rest of the world but money is not everything in this world. There are things that are unnegotiable, like the fate of society.

Canada needs a radical change. The woke politicians destroyed Canada, specially Trudeau. But I'm not going to bash Trudeau because he has all my respect after I realised that he's banging Katy Perry.

It's a mix I think. There's some things Canada can agree to and did but others might be crossing a line for them.

Greenland had to decide if it wanted to be protected from the China, Russia or America. Canada does not need protection. It can defend itself.
