I was already hyped for the season before the Packers got Micah Parsons, but now I'm super hyped.

What are your thoughts and predictions for the season?

I have the Packers winning the Super Bowl of course. 28-21 over the Ravens. Perhaps later in the thread I'll share more of my season predictions.

Go Packers!

The Packers got it done big time against a good Lions team.

Also, Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers got it done today.

Turning out to be an intriguing season so far.

Go Packers!!

I'm just glad the 49ers started the season on point.

That was a tough game for me to watch, cuz of course I want to see both teams lose. Woulda liked a Vikings loss just cuz I figure they are gona be the bigger obstacle to the NFC North title in the end. But I'll never complain about a bears loss... Not that I can ever really mean it, but good luck the rest of the season :)

Even when the bar of expectations are low, the Bears manage to go lower. I could nitpick a lot of that game.

Not afraid to admit the Packers are a Super Bowl-contending team if they go out and smoke the Commanders. I felt like that Lions game was due to the Lions IMO not being as dominant due to the loss of their coordinators and interior lineman, but still think Packers are gonna be great. Appreciate the good luck, even if you crossed your fingers while typing that.

I can’t believe the Colts are actually decent

Well, that Browns game was embarrassing. Team probably came in with a bit too much unearned swagger after domination against the Lions and Commanders. Good to get humbled early in the season to get things in order and focus on the long season grind. Go Packers!

So you play football with a rugby ball, it takes hours and hours, and thousands of people in ludicrous outfits.

And then you export it all over here for the benefit of those drooling bozos who dedicate their lives to the worship of the Televisual sport.

Some are even prepared to part with hard earned money to go to Wembley or Croke Park and watch it.

Over here we have football with spherical balls, which was bad enough when it was just blokes, but now we're also supposed to be glued to screens ogling butch babes in big shorts and long socks.

It's now all and endless succession of sexually undiscriminated ball manipulation.

Not that I mind a bit of ladies beach volleyball...Though the actual ball is a tad irrelevant.

The first season we’re good in a while and the Jaguars are an actual threat to us smh…

Nevermind. The Jaguars are not a threat and the rest of our division is terrible.

The British called the 2 games:

Association Football

and Rugby Football

the soc in Association got the British and Irish to dub it soccer, the rug in Rugby got them to dub it rugger. It was them who introduced both to the US. The US altered Rugby Football and named their new game American football. Meanwhile, the British ditched 'soccer' and solely called it football while calling Rugby football 'Rugby' or sometimes still using 'rugger'. The Americans kept the slang term soccer and how it's their officially term for association football.

Therefore, it is actually the British that are to blame for the terminology fiasco.

Edit post

The US is a definitively secular nation, founded on complete separation of the State and religion. The Left Wing of US realise this but don't realise that pure freedom requires as low tax and free access to guns as possible. The Right Wing of US don't realise that secular pure freedom means the LGBTQ+ and abortion agendas both end up in line with US's liberty-first ethos.

It is left-wing to be pro-life. You are backing poor babies being born at the inconvenience of the already-born. Go figure.

Spherical football is predominately a foot game.

Rugby is a foot hand mixture with a pointy ball.

And American football is predominately a pointy ball carrying and throwing event.

And then there are the Aussies, who play both Rugby and Australian rules football with a pointy ball.

Aussie rules football is a foot, carrying, throwing and fighting event.

And then there are the Irish who play a similar game to the Aussies but with a spherical Ball.

Though I often wonder if a pointy ball is a contradiction

@SergeantLynch

That’s why it’s called football and soccer in America. Two different games using two different types of balls.

@Debby

But American football is predominately a hand game.

Edit post

#20 β€’β€’β€’
@SergeantLynch

That is why they had to change the shape of the ball so they could throw it.

Edit post

#21 β€’β€’β€’
@Debby

So why do they call it football?

Edit post

#22 β€’β€’β€’
@SergeantLynch

You can score with a kick, therefore it’s a football.

The word "football"

originally described various games played on foot, as opposed to sports played on horseback. These medieval games, played by peasants, involved moving a ball with hands, feet, or sticks. Over time, the term evolved, and different codes of football were developed from these precursors, with the name sticking even as the games changed and became distinct from one another.

  1. Medieval origins: The term "football" was used in medieval Europe for a variety of games played on foot, as opposed to the horse-riding sports of the aristocracy.
  2. Varied rules: These early games had diverse rules across different regions; some games primarily involved kicking, while others allowed carrying the ball.
  3. Modern evolution: As rules for different types of football were formalized in the 19th century, the name "football" was retained for each new variation, including association football (soccer), rugby football, and the American game that developed from them.
  4. American distinction: In the U.S., the name "football" stuck for the game that evolved from rugby and association football, while the term "soccer" was adopted as a nickname for association football to distinguish it.

Being a Niners fan [and living in San Francisco longer than in any other house as an adult or child, from the mid-70s to early 90s] I am bummed that the 49ers failed this year, but with their injury list, I'm not surprised. I don't care who wins this year; I probably will not even watch the game. I did enjoy watching the Indiana/Miami game Mon night.
