Honestly I had Kohai pegged as hard scum but might just be being incredibly weird like in Retro Games

Another interesting thing is... why no NK?

I don't think we're dealing with a cult here at all for reasons I stated DP1, Mafia should have night kills; if the recruit was a one night only thing it makes perfect sense that the kill was prevented somehow

But the issue I have is how is everyone capable of being targeted at the same time? Usually a cult or a recruiter can only target one player per night

so there's multiple ways such a recruiter could work

1. Not a role given to player, but just a game mechanic
2. Random chance among the people who accepted
3. Passively sent out to all players, actively scum's choice among those who accepted the offer

Doesn't matter exactly; at the end of the day, we were all offered a contract, and one of us became scum. So I think it's reasonable to infer that one player started as scum and another just joined

I think the wording here implies only one of us, plus there's the testimonies of others from earlier.

Town win when all threats to town have been eliminated. Mafia win at scum parity, i.e., when there are at least as many scum alive as non-scum. If there are neutrals, they have their own win conditions.

And this from the DP1 OP makes me think it's not a cult.

And given that we were all offered at once, with the ability to reject (or be voided even if accepted), makes me think it was a one-time offer, which does not match what a cult does.

So I think we're dealing with a mafia team, not a cult, and a night kill was prevented one way or another.

Side note: My current speculation is Kyubey is scum with a recruit. I wonder of a third party Walpergisnacht and a weird mechanic there

Come to think of it, it comes with interesting implications. If it is just flavor text, Maybe Walperg is nact a third party, but scum. And Kyubey is TP. Like yeah he manufactures the bad events of the series by creating witches, including Walperg, but he does so from a utilitarian perspective (with his own goals in mind!), cause he wants to stop the heat death of the universe. Walperg is the destructive being that the magical girls are fighting to stop from the start.

Furthermore, accepting the contract means risk of becoming a witch (or inevitability I suppose)... so joining Walperg as mafia makes sense

I was intreagued so I initally accepted the offer but then retracted it after reading up on it (though it wouldn't have mattered anyway as the contract ended up failing). It was mod confirmed to me that this was an alignment changing role. We are dealing with a cult or a recruiter.

This right here. This is what makes me wonder if he's just being weird. First, the small detail of accepting, then reading up and rejecting. Also the massive ignorance about a cult, and the fact that he was the first who testified the asked and found out the offer changed affiliation

It was not given to me as a recruitment, it was given to me as a hidden power. Even then, I didn’t even think it was scummy from my perspective until seeing Kohai recruitment. I accepted it because if I denied it and somehow I was the only person who got it, thats immediate FOS. You literally did the same thing to Luna in one game… the mechanic operated in a similar way

I don’t remember this at all, but regardless. The Bottomline is that 3 people admitted to accepting the offer: REF, Vader, Mikal.
