TOWN WINS

This game was closer than I thought it would be following the first day phase. I think whiteflame did a pretty good job as scum after Kohai was lynched and basically stopped participating in the scum chat. I may have also made things a bit too difficult for scum by putting the major characters in the game, allowing a good chunk of town to confirm themselves. However, I kind of expected town to mod-psyche it and assume that I might have left more significant roles for scum, especially since I outright said I had given scum the opportunity to ask two questions. That is, I didn’t expect character claims to be as big a deal as they ended up being.

That said, I think this would have been winnable for scum if Kohai hadn’t been lynched on the first day phase, or if scum had been able to put more emphasis on behavior and not reading too much into character claims. A lot was said back and forth about whether I would put certain roles or characters in the game, and the explanation for most of my decisions are that I mostly just wanted to have the most solid role justifications for each character used. I think (hope) I achieved that, because no one’s justification was said to be a stretch, besides maybe wylted’s at one point. I also consulted with Pie about balance and making it not too swingy a few months back when I first designed the game, so that factored in. But he hadn’t seen the show, or he may have pointed out that I was giving town all the major characters.

Besides the character thing, the game seemed decently balanced. I think forcing town to speed things up helped whiteflame survive a bit longer than he may have otherwise. I am of course open to feedback on game design and will aim to account for it in the future.

TOWN:

Wryly - You are Cassian Andor, a skilled spy, assassin, soldier, and pilot for the Rebel Alliance working under Luthen Rael. When rebel leader Mon Mothma was hunted by the empire after giving a divisive speech, you successfully escorted her to safety. Therefore, you are the 2x Bodyguard. On two nights of your choosing, you may choose a player to protect. If that player was targeted for a night kill, you will die instead of them. You win with the Town.

Thoth - You are Saw Gerrera. You lead a band of Rebel extremists, and your radical methods have alienated many other members of the Rebel Alliance. Despite this, you remain an effective fighter against the Empire on your own terms. Therefore, you are the 1x Even Night Vigilante. On one even night of your choosing, you may target a player and kill them. You win with the Town.

Lunatic - You are Luthen Rael. An organizer and leader of the early rebellion, you possess a wide array of skills and must adapt quickly to keep the rebellion alive. Therefore, you are a JOAT with the following abilities: 1x Watcher, 1x Roleblocker, and 1x Bulletproof. You can only use one ability per night. You win with the Town.

Wylted - You are Kino Loy, a floor manager incarcerated in the Narkina 5 Imperial Prison Complex. After working with Cassian Andor to overthrow the guards on Level Five, you reached the control room and gave an improvised speech that inspired a facility-wide uprising. Despite helping the other prisoners escape, you were unable to swim in the waters surrounding the prison and stayed behind. Therefore, you are the Odd Night Martyr. If you die during an odd night, no one will die the night after that. You win with the Town.

Magoroth - You are Maarva Andor. You gave a speech condemning the Empire that was played after your death and triggered a riot against Imperial forces on Ferrix. Hence, you are the 1x Restless Spirit. Once in the game after you die, you may post a vote and nothing else. You win with the Town.

RexFavilla - You are Wilmon Paak. A skilled engineer, you crafted a bomb that was used during the uprising on Ferrix. Therefore, you are the Inventor. You have the following inventions you can give out during the day: 1x Commuter, 1x Tracker, and 1x Bomb. You can only give out one item per day, and an item must be locked in on the day it’s given by the user who receives it or it will expire. You win with the Town.

Banana - You are Mon Mothma. Before you became the official leader of the Rebel Alliance, you were a Senator who frequently spoke out against imperial overreach. Therefore, you are the 2x Petitioner. Twice in the game, you may cast an anonymous “negative vote” in addition to your normal vote (removing or switching your negative vote counts as a use of this ability). The “negative vote” counts against a player's elimination, requiring an extra vote for them to be eliminated. This ability expires at MYLO/LYLO. You win with the Town.

MAFIA:

Whiteflame - You are Dedra Meero, a diligent, analytical ISB supervisor. Frustrated by the shortsightedness of your colleagues, you collect and piece together intelligence from across the galaxy with the goal of discovering the elusive rebel leader known as Axis. Hence, you are the Day Consigliere. Each day, you may target a player and see their Role PM. You win with the Mafia.

Kohai - You are Exmar Kloris, an operative for the Galactic Empire's Imperial Security Bureau. Disguised as Mon Mothma’s personal chauffeur, you personally report her and her family’s activities to your ISB handler. Therefore, you are the Chauffeur. You have the ability to “swap” two players each night so that everyone visiting the first targeted player will instead visit the second targeted player and vice versa. You win with the Mafia.

So... yeah, that was a lot.

To start, I'll just say that rolling scum 3 games in a row is brutal. I played this as well as I could, but I'm 100% taking a break from mafia for a hot minute after this, if only to stop the cycle.

As for what happened with Kohai, I'll clarify the basics. We had worked pretty closely on the Kleya Marki claim, and asked about it, so we knew she wasn't in the game pretty early. I had worked up a set of fake claims, and Kohai seemed to take to one of them, even to the point of asking about the role (it was verified not in the game). He mentioned claiming Strengthener, I said that would get him lynched. A couple of hours later, he went for it with the Strengthener, and the rest is history. Strengthener claims tend to work better when there's a lot of established role fuckery, and we had none of that. I get what he was going for, but it was pretty frustrating to have done all that work on a claim and just have him go an entirely different direction with it. Didn't help that he was absent after that.

And for those who were interested, I landed on Bix as my character claim through some elimination of likely characters and a well-timed question. The role claim came about when I asked about a Cop, found out there wasn't one, and figured town was relatively low on investigatives given we only had one night manipulation.

Regarding the setup generally, I was a little frustrated with it. We had one night action between the two of us, and while Bus Driver is good, it basically meant one of us was always in danger. My day action was good for reducing possible available characters and roles, which is something, but I was effectively just absent anything except my NK after DP2 since everyone had full claimed by then and I had Luna's role. Scum needed some serious responses to town roles, and especially without the Bus Driver, it was pure luck I got that far.

Also, that Restless Spirit role is broken as hell. Usually, those only last one DP beyond the death of the player and they don't count for parity. It wasn't a big deal here, especially since Wryly probably would've voted for me in the end, but that role is just too much.

Still, congrats to town on this one, particularly Wryly and Luna with whom I actually enjoyed the discussion of the last DP. Felt less antagonistic and more fact-finding.

GG's I will give more comments later, but whiteflame played well under the circumstances. I wouldn't have blamed you guys for lynching me though, lots of wifom to pick and choose from.

Good job wryly and magoroth.

Couple questions. Why Banana NP3, and why did you pass up going to MYLO just to frame Thoth?

Appreciate it, and same to you.

So I think Banana would've been more of a wildcard. She might have been convinced, but it would have been a rough road to get there and I wasn't sure I could. My other concern was that I thought Rex had given out an item on DP1 (he apparently didn't), and I was really concerned it was the Bomb. If he had done that, I figured you were much more likely to have gotten it than Banana was.

As for why I passed up on MYLO, that's POE. Thoth would have been confirmed, so I would have had to just kill him. So it would have been me vs. Luna again, and I would have had to argue with you and Banana over it to get there and win you both over. Same problem, higher wall.

I often think roles are only very loosely suited for the characters they are paired with, but I have to say this was the solidest list of character-role justifications I can remember seeing. Leaving a couple major characters out would've really balanced things better for scum, but in your defense you didn't know how much emphasis we would put on character claims. That may have been due to us being a bit starved for role confirmations late game, aside from Banana's.

I see Lunatic's BP was activated NP3, but I'm still kind of confused about your back-and-forth with him over whether it was passive, and also how it was used without him being attacked.

Savant’s one week format is interesting. It’s a good way to shake things up.

I do it to speed up the game so more games happen faster and the leaderboard can become more accurate. Also I hate (a) night phases and (b) day phases that stretched out when nothing more useful can happen because town needs to drag it out to increase victory odds by like 0.2%. It would be like if chess games gave each player 10 mins max for each move. Grandmasters would def be taking all ten minutes even when they didn't have to.

So at first I looked up if bulletproof is usually passive, and it is, but then looking at his role I realized that it would be more balanced if he had to pick a role for each night. When I said it was used I meant used up as in he couldn't use it again, even though it didn't actually do anything. Like how roleblocking Magoroth didn't actually accomplish anything, but he still couldn't use the roleblocker again.

Alas! I considered this explanation at one point but told myself that scum would rather keep the pool of suspects as wide as possible by having a MYLO 3v1 instead of a LYLO 2v1.

I'm surprised you thought Rex had given me the bomb, I felt pretty null-read DP1.

I had no clue who he'd given an item to or whether that would be the Bomb, but I kept thinking about it all game long. Had to just risk it previous NPs, but when it came down to two, that really was the tie-breaker between you and Banana. Figured he was more likely to townread you than her in DP1.

Why was Thoth lynched?

I mean the night death was from the POE. It's pretty obvious scum isn't looking to narrow town POW and that it was a vig shot?

Was surprised anyone bought the possibility that scum also shot Mago. I knew very well that Mago was a terrible target. A fake Vig would be a ballsy ass claim.

I was wondering about the lack of a kill. I mean you could have killed Thoth and then have it be four players remaining with a larger POE, rather than final 3.

Couldn't really see a world in which things improved with Banana in play, especially since the bar for elimination would have gone up by one vote. Maybe that would have led to more uncertainty, dragged things out, but we would also have had one less DP, which meant little time crunch. It was a riskier choice not to eliminate Thoth, but I'd make it again.

Fair, makes sense with the time crunch. Wasn't thinking about that.
