I don’t think a ban should be enforced, just that people should voluntarily quit saying lynch.

Or we just realize that we are using a term to vote someone out of a game that’s been used for years and not make a big stink out of something for no reason. I like that idea the best.

I would push a separate issue I see as far as community management in the way that is enforced. I will publicly say that I think some sites have utterly lost the plot with moderation weaponizing victimization. People are allowed to force their will on others voicing that they are offended in a toxic and harmful way to communities. I would simply voice that the way such a policy is implemented should be controlled.

…because of situations like this. Catering to butthurt people is exactly how you get a site full of easily offended people who will write rules against being a big meanie and whine to moddy when you make a microaggression.

There’s also the fact that we are primarily a debate website. Censorship and debate are like oil and water. We need to have a thick-skinned culture to even have productive discussion. Such a rule in the mafia community would harm the other side of the site as well.

Without saying what a place is there is a major mafia community that has a secret list of naughty words they police to the extreme while refusing to release what they consider not ok to say. They smite people for slipping up and saying commonly used words such as lynch. They attack users for having a different culture and punish them based upon unspoken standards. Should we move in that direction? I do not think so. And I do not think such policy even remotely creates cleaner Mafia games.

I think a middle ground exists strongly encouraging users to not use the term "Lynch" and punishing only if they are using it with intent to offend or chronically ignoring said policy without becoming one of the places that virtue signals and causes harm to the community in the name of standing on a soap box. Thats my two cents

if someone is so offended by a word, because of an entirely different context, then the problem is with them. They either change that mindset or they don’t belong here. People who cannot comprehend an alternative context, are weak-minded. Not just because they get offended easily, but because they run their possible viewpoints through a social acceptability filter before they allow themselves to believe in anything, like an AI. Such people would be harmful to the mafia culture we have, and DCraft’s aim at becoming and remaining the best debate website.

Lynching does mean without due process. By definition it is an extrajudicial killing. That's the point. To associate it with racist violence, however, is to appropriate the game of Mafia itself. The game of Mafia is influenced by the witch trial lynchings, not racial violence. Claiming that it is offensive to use the term "lynch" for racial reasons both ignores what a lynch actually is and willfully rejects the history of Mafia as a game in other to substitute a political narrative.
