I am both a social and fiscal conservative, so I agree with what the Republican party used to be. I am opposed to the authoritarian and reactionary bent the party has taken since Trump took over. I generally think Republican candidates are less bad than Democratic candidates, though.

Bipartisan and Independent commissions are bipartisan and independent in name only. I am open to a more automated or rules-based system to cut down on gerrymandering, although many of the suggestions for that are lousy.

I will absolutely bite the bullet here. The inevitable result of the freedom of speech is that, to use the widely oversimplified phrase, "money is speech." That being said, campaign finances are a mere scapegoat.

Weak support of term limits. Intuitively, I lean strongly toward term limits, but I have heard excellent arguments against them.

Maybe 1% of the people pushing for this would still be pushing for this if the Supreme Court was tilted their way and not the other. And yes, that also goes for all the people who would explicitly deny that and say they would. This is purely partisan whining.

I believe that rehabilitation is important and we should do as much as we reasonably can to help criminals rehabilitate. However, the primary purpose of prison is to prevent dangerous criminals from being a danger to the innocent.

I want to select both rehabilitation first and adult-like sentencing for serious crimes. We want to avoid starting off career criminals, but we also don't want murderers to be free to keep murdering. Difficult and maybe impossible balance.

Private prisons are a scapegoat. They are a negligible factor in the US.

I agree with many of the problems the left sees in the US healthcare system, but strongly disagree with their proposed solutions.

No matter what the law says, the minimum wage is always 0 - unemployment. Supply and demand applies to labor just as much as it applies to goods and services. Distorting it through government action will always have negative affects, usually on the very people you're trying to help.

The dirty secret they don't tell you about taxing the rich is that the rich don't have anywhere near enough money to pay for everything people want. There isn't any good reason to tax them at really high rates other than retribution for simply being rich.

Eliminate the corporate tax.

Rarely has something presented as so inevitable and so intelligent been so dumb.* *Not really, though. Dumbness is everywhere.

By reduce, I mean eliminate. As a general principle, I oppose welfare programs. Even then, however, SS is probably the worst model of a welfare program there is. It bears more resemblance to a Ponzi scheme than anything else.

Eliminate it.

Probably needs better organization of funds than more funding per se, but we do need a strong military.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. It has nothing to do with a lack of empathy or compassion or opposition to education. It's just a fact. Any attempts to ignore it or get around it will be a net negative.

Get the government out of the student loan business entirely.

Nuclear is better, but there's no hurry.

I'd prefer rapid, but it's just not realistic.
